Muslim? Thoughts on Arab World

Anyone here Muslim?

Not trying to single you out or anything. Rather, I am curious as to what you think about iraq, iran, and the arab world in general.

Nuke the fuck out of it then bulldoze everything and build hotels and swiming pools.

Better yet, bake them in ovens.

I think the topic has been extensively covered in other threads.

Are you really serious? I have seen a lot of people here express similar views. It’s a pretty low sentiment.

i have a good friend who is a muslim, and whose family came here from egypt when he was in seventh grade, so he is the “real deal” i guess. they are very religious. his mother wears the head thing, they pray however many times each day and always to the east and they attend their mosque regularly.

they are not terrorists at all. in fact, they are some of the most friendly people i’ve ever met.

their culture causes them to be extremely hospitable. the first thing they do when you enter their home is offer food and drinks, ask how the temperature is with all intents of changing it should you feel uncomfortable, and then leave an open ended offer to whatever you want in the kitchen.

they understand they are in america and are respectful of our cultures and of christianity.

they are honestly ashamed of terrorists.

we speak openly about the issues going on and they compare terrorist muslims to radical christian groups here, the ones who bomb abortion clinics, attack gays, form militias timothy mcveigh style… even the Ku Klux Klan, officially known as the Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

look in to some of their religious beliefs and think about how that might appear to people unfamiliar with the US. The Klan and family do not represent the majority accurately at all, but to a foriegner, they call themselves christians, the protectors of american values etc, and then commit terroristic acts.

the world is a big place people. lets get out from under our rocks and understand that shitty people are every where and in every country, and that they do not necessarily represent the majority.

Your friends family is the minority. They hate us more than lixy and reckless, except they have foot soldiers who are willing to act. I can tell you from personal expierience. Unless they are certain groups of Kurdish or very liberal muslims(few moderates) which are about 25%, they support jihadi efforts.

You’re wrong.

I moved to NYC a few years back for school from Oklahoma. Ended up in a historically Irish/Italian neighborhood which also houses a significant muslim population. I was pretty wary (and a little hateful at first-

I’ll admit it) of the muslims, but I’ve learned that rank-and-file muslims are like everyone else, except they pray a lot and don’t drink. They tend to be really friendly too and bust their asses when they get here to make it.

They don’t “hate us” and they certainly don’t have a jihadist majority. If they did, why would they move here in the first place? And why would they live tranquilly with the Catholic majority in my neighborhood?

Let’s be serious. The Muslim world is having a lot of problems but this is just stupid.

ah. and you have first hand experience in muslim countries then? because the neighborhood i grew up in was a pretty affluent one in houston, which meant lots of oil executives lived in it, many of whom spent years in the middle east.

they give glowing reports of the region, but mention the minority hate groups.

research skewed statistics and propaganda before you regurgitate info your buddies give you over a beer at the bar.

the muslims spewing hatred for america are the parrallels of our ignorant hill billies spewing the same for them.

This is a serious accusation. I have nothing against Americans; I just never miss a chance to show you the double standard in your perception of things. In the eyes of some of you - obviously including you -, the US can never go wrong and anything its commander or military does is noble, heroic and altruistic. I point out that the US has an undisputed record of atrocities over the last 50 years. Go talk to any political analyst in Europe, Asia, Africa or America (not within the US) and you’ll quickly realize that your perception is ridiculously wrong.

Nobody hates America. I’m simply not fond of the way it conducts its foreign policy because it causes pain, suffering and unnecessary deaths around the world. I have nothing against you or your fellows as long as you don’t call for exterminating other humans. That’s where most people with a heart and a brain will start being antagonistic towards you. And telling from the polls, the US isn’t popular to say the least.

Out of curiosity, how can you substantiate the claim that the Texasguy’s friends are a minority?

I guess that answers my question. I bet that from your personal experience, all French eat frogs, Swedes are majoritely blond and Blacks are good at sports.

B.S. You pulled that stat out of your pothole!
Since you seem to care for Kurds, allow me to point out that the US aided Turkey in decimating the Kurdish population.

“The U.S. government first began giving military aid to Turkey in 1946 to counter Soviet influence in the Middle East during the post-WWII era. But substantial support really began after a military coup in 1980 (an article in the Economist at the time said the armed forces “acted as they had to”) when the U.S. signed a military agreement with Turkey. The U.S. agreed to help modernize Turkish armed forces in exchange for the use of Turkey’s military bases, which bordered Iran and the USSR. After the coup, the situation of the Kurds worsened, as the military gained greater influence and a civil state of emergency was declared in the Southeast in 1987. The civil war between the Turkish armed forces and the PKK that began in 1984 and ended in 1999, left about 37,000 dead, 3,000 Kurdish villages destroyed, and possibly 2 million Kurds displaced. The United States funded 80 percent of Turkey’s arms during these years.”

Say whatever you want, but I can tell you from personal expierience, most of them hate us for religous reasons. It may be hard for you to accept it, but they do. There are two towers that are no more along with 3000 innocent civilian dead to prove it, they danced in the streets and burned our flags after this. I have walked the streets in Arab lands, they hate us, with the exception of a few like some of the Kurds, because we are the only reason they are alive today. You can dig up all the liberal articles you want on this, I have been the target of their hate, I have first hand knowledge, they hate us.

Saying that they hate you for religious reasons is simply wrong. I didn’t just walk the streets in Arab lands, I was raised and spent a quarter of a century there. There are Jews and Christians all over the Arab world and - besides Lebanon - they’re mostly getting along very well. If you prefer to focus on the exceptional attack on Churches in some remote part of Somalia, fine, but keep in mind that Mosques have been trashed in the US too. They will always be a minority who speaks louder to the blood-thirsty media through horrendous acts of violence.

Can you please tell me where (country/city) you felt Muslims were mean to you? And, if you have the time, what exactly in their attitude made you think that they hated you for religious reasons. Providing the context of your presence there would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Just so you know, I’ve seen people weep after the collapse of the towers. Candles were lit from Tangiers to Tehran in memory and respect of the victims. That some in Palestine connected with Osama’s message is unexcusable, but might just be a consequence of the unconditional support the US grants to the barbaric Zionist regime. And by the way, Palestinians were dancing on the other side of the globe. What about the people dancing in NY?

Burninig American flags is common in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. It has nothing to do with you, your faith or your “freedoms”; It’s just how some disoriented people chose to protest American imperialism. I personally condemn it and see it as a blessing for the neo-cons. If anybody had any reason to be breaking the champagne on 9/11, it was them.

Judging from your other posts, I’m calling BS on this. I’ll be surprised if you have ever registered for a passport. You come across as an extremely xenophobic individual.

I dont give a fuck what you think and yes i am dead seriouse.I have a bunch of buddies who have spent time in iraq, afgan, pakistan and isreal while in the military and security contracters and they all say they are fucking dirt. They abuse there children and abuse there wives.Americans and europeans try to better themselves and there suroundings, arabs blow shit up because of the quran.

There are definetly exceptions in all circumstances but all true practicing muslums would walk over any american body to better themself. And about america being this bad country that kills people all over the world. That is after we get fired upon.

Example, mogadishu,we went there to give food and aid to the people.then the drug lords and rebils started taking it for themselves. We went in to stop it. and then they shot down a heli.i dont need to explain afgan.remember the big earthguake in pakistan. Before that americans werent allowed in pakistan but then the ground shook and they needed our help.

Iraq.for starters saddam was a tyrant, murdered thousands of innocent people, his sons did unspeakable things to people. Are any of you familiar with the iranian hostage situation.Guests of the ayatollah.Um the fucking holocaust, the russian gulag. But we are the GREAT SATAN.i want to know who these people are we murder.

Yes we are an oil hungery country and yes our president is a little, well stupid and it pisses me off that he runs this country based on christianity. But the arab world will not rest until they feel they have fullfilled there destiny which is to destroy the infidels,US.

Lixy,

As far as America comitting the most atrocities of any country in the world, I think you are confused. Didn’t the Communist Chinese murder 600 million people in about a 20 or so span. What about the Pol Pot regime? Killing 1 million people out of a country of 3 million?

Next you’ll say the reason The Khymer Rogue conquered Cambodia was because of the US infiltration during the Viet Nam War.

Maybe so, but if we had won the Viet Nam War, those billion Cambodians probably not have been killed.

I can not say that I agree with everything America has done since it’s inception, but do you think the world would have been better if America was replaced with the Nazis or the Russian Communists as world leader?

We were fighting enemies (Nazi’s, Communists) that if they had won, would have devistated the world, and it was just as important for us to stop them, as it is for Palestinians to reclaim Palestine.

On another note, what do you think of Russian expansion into Muslim lands in the southern part of their country. They all used to be small Khanites but the Russians conquered them, though it took around 300 years to do so. You don’t hear anyone blasting the Russians for doing this. (except for the Chechen separtists) Is this because Russia arms Israel’s enemies?
