Pic of Roger showing book I recommended, posted today.

I might see AF on April 9th at a place near me.

Now that is cool… true legend. Still jam old Agnostic occasionally

“Slinging that lead like im Doodle Bob.”

The Who has moved me since I can remember my mother’s Bee Gees album was not cool.

I had a student who’s father was on a business trip and was staying at a Phoenix hotel. There was a baby grand in the lobby so one morning the fellow sat down and started playing a bit.

A few moments later this voice behind him says: If you are going to play the gd piano than play the frigging thing.

He turns around to look at the voice and Pete Townsend is standing there. Pete Townsend looks back, says “Scoot over!” and sits down next to him. They proceed to share the piano for several minutes. Pretty cool …

Good point…

I didn’t get into the whole social impact, shit. I listen for their music skills, not their political commentary. Beatles seemed to become more about politics at the end than music. I do love Ringo though, the guy just keeps going, enjoyin the fuck out of life…

I always end up back at Hendrix.

A lot of his unedited studio albums are amazing, if you haven’t already heard them.

There’s always been a certain charm to the alternate takes of him and the band. Really gives you a more intimate glimpse into the world of music at the time.

And honestly to think that he was JUST starting to take the world by storm when he passed. He really doesn’t have that many studio albums compared to his live albums.

Another legend that I’m sure everyone knows about was SRV. You can tell in his later albums he was JUST starting to get into the Blues Jazz Fusion Genre. Rivera Paradise, Lenny etc. now I would’ve loved to hear what he could’ve come up with had he survived a little longer.

Both brilliant live performers. :+1:

The studio work is amazing, but live is really where their magic happened.

I think it was SRV’s Live At El Mocambo or something that we’d put on at my buddies place and just rattle the windows with while partying.

Occasionally somebody would ask if he’d turn it down a little, to which he would respond simply “Nope!”.

Little Wing… sooooo fucking good

Not much brings a tear to my eye, but Hendrix and the memories it brings back does.

That entire live performance was legendary.

Stevie’s El Mocambo Version of Little Wing is actually what inspired me to learn guitar.

I spent a whole summer learning that version note for note, trying to get the phrasing right. I dropped 140$ for a crybaby wah and got the pickups swapped out to the Texas Specials , that’s how obsessed I was with him lol. I was about to get the SRV Letter Decal too then I got a sweet deal on a used strat so I let go of that guitar.

Still so tragic that he passed so soon. Just got sober and then he got taken away from us

Yeah. His performances are what convinced me that some people make music as a means to wealth and as part of an industry.

Then there’s the SRV’s and Carlos Santanas that are compelled to make music as if they’re battling the universe for immortality. They scream it out at a spiritual level.

Might as well include this:

Hell, this too!

Oh man. I remember after the wedding ceremony me and my wife had we drove up to the upper peninsula while we were still in Michigan, went to a lookout spot and I remember playing this in the car stereo…

This was like 11pm at night and I vividly remember the cigarette smoke, the smell of tobacco and how absolutely gorgeous out it was that night.

Core memory that I won’t ever forget

Yeah. Thats what some of this has become for me too.

My first true love when I was 17 was a big fan of Prince. We’d go back and forth about Hendrix or Prince. I contended that Prince was just Hendrix’s little brother, and she would dismiss that idea as absurd.

She was pretty amazing. Sunny summer days, a long time ago.

My core memory for music is when my uncle, mom, and I went road trips, my uncle and I would find the most random music to annoy my mom with. The most played song being “muffin man” by frank Zappa

He passed a year ago and I inherited his music collection

My mom and I decided to play the music game at his funeral and played hit the road jack as the last song lol

I love that tune. I can see it really grating on someones nerves though if they didn’t like it. Joe’s Garage is an album I can put on and listen to start to finish any day of the week.
