We should take up a fund and send in the $60.00 dollars it would take to make this thread die…
So, Jacked Diesel is a thief. I guess everyone has established that. He has also established that he is fine with that (in this case). So what it boils down to is a “holier than thou” case.

It all depends on morality, i do think that stealing is wrong, but what is stealing really? I do not seeing not paying for something that has been placed on the internet for me to take as stealing. Think about it, I did not go into a best buy and jack a copy of this, instead, I found a site that did all the work whether it be someone who has a pirated copy, created a keygen to get serial codes, or whatever.

It doesn’t really matter how you see stealing. The laws sees that as stealing.
And that’s a fact, since you said you wanted one.
I think people would be fine if he said he’s a Thief and he knows it… But what he really says he’s a Thief and that it’s ok to steal from Microsoft because:
A) Microsoft is worth Billions so they won’t miss it.
B) It’s not really stealing anyway because software doesn’t exist.
I think people just enjoy reading his posts because they sound stupid.
I know I do.
Seriously, this is hilarious because everyone that has ever been on the internet has used it to steal from someone. I have no problem downloading a bands music for free and then buying their cd if they are a badass band because that would help the band continue to play and make music. In the case of microsoft they know everyone, especially college kids, steal their shit. I would not use office if I didnt have to, it is required by my school, however, I did not know about open office before this thread and have since been using it more than office because it doesnt have all the useless bullshit attached to it, it gets straight to what I need.
If it was up to me I would hand write my papers, however, at my school it is a requirement to have a laptop to even attend. So what would you do, spend the 130 on MS office, or attempt to steal it so you could write your papers.
Most everyone in the world has gotten ahead by stealing from someone else, and that is a fact, from the most minute situation, to the most extreme. Bill Gates himself stole the idea of having windows and usable icons in an OS from Steve Jobs.

i feel like a dick for saying this (only because I enjoy reading this thread) but you can get free downloads of openoffice.org and it does the same thing. Its not that I really care, I just enjoy when I get free stuff.
He said since this thread he’s been using open office in his first paragraph.
But I have to disagree, not everyone that has ever been on the internet has used it to steal from someone.
You can’t make those types of statements, it just makes you sound ridiculous.

I just want to fix this gross misconception that Steve Jobs / Apple has ever created anything original. I believe development of the original windowing system and icons goes to the excellent engineers of the former Xerox PARC. The folks at Apple are innovators, not inventors.

As opposed to the rest of his posts, in which he manifests sound reason.

What I find most amusing is the ridiculous lengths at which he goes to justify himself. “Software doesn’t really exist;” it’s not really “a thing;” “Microsoft is rich, I’m not”, “school forces me to use MS Office” etc.
It’s human nature to rationalize all our actions into being “the right thing to do,” but it’s very amusing to look at someone else doing it and putting a good effort into it. Especially when you consider that he’s willing compromise his character and reputation in exchange for a product worth about 60$. Good thing he’s pretty close to anonymous around here. He won’t have this showing up if someone Googles his name before hiring him.
I believe you can actually get a student version of MS Office for much much cheaper when enrolled in college.
Repeat after me, Copyright infringement is not stealing.
On a side note, why doesn’t the OP you use OOo?

Repeat after me, oh yes it is.

Thats all I wanted ![]()
I am 100% on with the band thing, I download a few of their tunes to see if buying the entire album is worth it, I usually buy the single song that I like, and then iTunes lets me “upgrade” to the full album for a discounted price if I want to.
I’m the same way with software, I will download it and if I like it I pay for it and if I don’t I find something else and thank the lord I didn’t waste hundreds of dollars on shitty software. MS Office is ridiculously expensive so I use Openoffice (I didn’t know about the 60 dollar Office that MS offers, kudos to them.)
Is it ok if I continue to use my free software? I don’t have to develop a conscious just because everyone is getting along now, do I?

Activating binary code doesn’t take away “the property of another”. And it certainly isn’t trying to take credit for something that’s not your original work.
I’m not encouraging people to commit copyright infringement. Merely pointing out that the terminology used here is wrong.

not at all. feel free to keep doing as you have been. In fact, if I were you and I changed how I acted just because someone on the internet told me to, I would probably just cut my balls off right then and there.
So by all means, feel free to make your own decisions.
Hm, rationalization can be quite funny. How about, I use P2P programs, would probably look for a free version of MS Office if I needed it, and simply don’t care?
My PC uses Windows XP, and I paid for it. I’m getting a new one that is only available with Vista, and I’m paying for it even though I don’t want it. I’m fine with that. But if I can get a free version, why spend money on it?
i’ll still steal

But now you own your decision.
