Movies You've Watched This Week?

Punisher-War Zone: Does Julie Benz purposely only go for roles over-the-top gorey action movies when not filming Dexter? After this one and Rambo I’m beginning to think so.
This may also explain her role in Saw V. Maybe she’s got a thing for gore?

Oh well then it’s a given- she digs the gore.

Observe and Report - I fucking LOVED this! Then again, I like sick, mean humor. This movie is definitely not for everyone. The best way I could describe it is Bad Santa times 10.

Cadillac Records - I liked it. Not great, but good overall. I’ve always liked period pieces about musicians. Although, the genre is starting to feel stale to me. Haven’t we covered everyone by now? Anyway, I thought it had a good cast and had good performances by pretty much everyone involved.

The Spirit - I really wanted to like this, but it’s no Sin City. I thought it was unintentionally funny in parts, but it was just pretty bad overall.

The Guitar - Didn’t really do anything for me. Saffron Burrows stars as a girl that finds out she has throat cancer and decides to kind of go out with a bang. Because of her cancer, she speaks with a very labored voice and breathes like she’s in pain for a large part of the movie and I felt it kind of uncomfortable and distracting.

It was kind of cool at first though how she was just buying up everything she wanted and eating lots of pizza. She was also naked for a good portion of the film (not a great naked body though). Then the movie took a lesbian turn about halfway through and really lost me.

Phantoms - I mainly rented this because of the, “Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms” line from the Kevin Smith films. I didn’t really like this though and didn’t come away from it thinking that Affleck was, in fact, the bomb in this movie. I thought the acting was pretty bad in this, except for Liev Schreiber, who gave kind of a funny performance.

The Reader - Sure, Kate Winslet was good and all, but I thought this movie sucked otherwise. It’s boring and I thought it was pretty pointless. The first half of the movie is about lady seducing a 15-year-old boy, which is kind of cool I guess, but then he’s just a dork about her for the rest of his life. This guy is in high school and college and has women practically throwing themselves at him, but he’s hung up on Kate Winslet.

The second half of the movie I thought was ridiculous. So she’s willing to take the fall just because she doesn’t want to admit she can’t read? Mr. Lovesick doesn’t speak up on her behalf? I don’t know about you but if my choices are life in prison and be embarrassed for admitting I can’t read, I’d take the second option.

Thank the lord and savior! I need to see this ASAP. I wanted to check it out yesterday, but it was my dad’s bday and he wanted to see Knowing.

It’s funny cause the two people I saw it with laughed throughout the movie, but then after both claimed they hated it and thought it was terrible. I think it make them feel uncomfortable. It’s pretty dark.

There have been a lot of movies out lately that I want to see, but I never get to the theater. This will probably be yet another one…

I just need to start going alone!

option.
I thought it was a feel good movie. I agree with everything he did. Ray Liotta is a bastard though.

I watched The Big Lebowski for the umpteenth time last night. Still hilarious, and Walter is the best character ever.

Observe and Report is fucking awesome. Especially when he finally stops the flasher.

Cause I keep getting older and they stay the same age.

Passchendaele - I actually enjoyed this movie. I even somewhat enjoyed the love story going on, believe it or not. It was a bit over done, it was a bit corny but it was well done. I thought all the characters were well played and at times you really feel sorry for what some characters had to go through.

More importantly, the war scenes. Honestly, I was disgusted. It wasn’t the movie, it’s just that war. It was probably one of the most disgusting wars ever fought. It was also one of the last of it’s kind. It saw the end of the marching brigade of men lined up in a row and the beginning of modern warfare with the advent of more modern rifles, machine guns and later on sub machine guns. What really just made me cringe were the hand to hand combat parts, which often happened in WWI as you were more likely to survive by using your rifle as a sword than a gun.

I don’t know why I cringed, I never do. I’ve seen many war movies, this one just got to me for some reason. It could have been the portrayal, or it could have been that these people were Canadian, and with routes in Canada as old as mine, I’m pretty sure relatives of mine were there. I guess it just touched me in a way that other war movies didn’t, because honestly… How often do you see movies based on Canadians, made in Canada , featuring only Canadians and without American glam (no offense guys) smeared all over it?

Pretty rare.

Play It Again Sam - I understand Woody Allen but his style of humor is not my thing. This was a little different (different director for one). Enjoyable.

American History X - Everything that could have been said about this movie has already been said. Probably the 7th time I’ve seen it. Norton was so good. Why is he doing shit movies??

High School Party - Had some funny parts/characters and some gay ones who tried to hard to be funny. Similiar to Superbad, but not as good. And the main actor looks like Ryan Reynolds twin brother. There are some titties so that boost the rating slightly.

Apocalypto- It goes without saying how freakin awesome this movie is. Why doesn’t Mel Gibson make more movies…

The Score - This is a fairly old movie, but I picked it up because it had Edward Norton and DeNiro in it. Basically a story about DeNiro playing a expert thief and them organising a heist. The movie spends about an hour on whether DeNiro is going to take this ‘risky’ job when it says that much on the dvd cover. Extremly predictable.

This is actually a real movie that comes out on DVD next week.

One Eyed Monster

Oh I mean “was so good in this movie.” He is still a great actor, just wtf at The Incredible Hulk and Pride and Glory (admittedly I have not seen the latter, but from what I’ve heard…)

I was surprised with how good this was. Then again, I think Paul Rudd is the shit so I was bound to enjoy it.

I agree. Totally underrated movie. I’ve become such a Paul Rudd fan over the years that I even found I Could Never Be Your Woman watchable.
