Movies You've Watched This Week?

“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” - watched the extended version…waaaay too long. I should watch the regular version to see if they cut down the scenes where they were milking jokes. After watching Veronica Mars, it was weird seeing Kristen Bell have a sex scene, hah.

“Milk” - Damned good. Period.

“Queen of the Damned” - I had an amusing inside joke/running theme with Vampires this weekend, so I watched this for the millionth time. Kinda creepy seeing as Alyiah died before it’s completion. Great cheesy flick though.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

God it was bad. They should’ve left it alone with the trilogy.

7 pounds - was quite good, if a little slow, and Will smith’s face freaked me out a bit.

Doubt - good movie. Top notch peformances from the 2 leads.

X, did you know that Quarantine is actually a remake of a Spanish film titled [REC]? I just read that after I watched it.

I liked Quarantine. I will have to get the original to see if it is better or not.
That makes more sense I guess than Hollywood suddenly becoming creative and interesting all by itself.

I thought Dexter’s sister was less annoying than usual and was impressed with her acting at the end.
Her performance in this makes me think she is truly acting when she comes across as quirky and irritating on Dexter. She does “hysterically freaked out” perfectly. Maybe she just fit this role better.

I watched “Zodiac” (Directed by David Fincher) on a whim this weekend and was blown away by it. It’s some of the best camera work I’ve seen in a while, the actors all do top-notch jobs, and while it’s not graphic/gory, the killer is incredibly creepy and realistic.

I highly recommend this movie.

The Terminator 2. Quite possibly the single most awesome thing ever created.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?”

Splinter - Horror film with a great concept for a monster. Not sure if it was a low budget flick, but it only had a cast list of 6 people.

Resident Evil: Degeneration - Like watching a series of cut scenes from one of the Resident Evil games. Not that that’s a bad thing of course  I really liked it, but then I’m a fan of most things Resident Evil.

I thought you wrote, ‘we are fucked if rabbis mutate like this’ which without knowing what the movie was about, made me really want to watch it.

She wasn’t bad in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, either.

Then again, I don’t mind her in Dexter.

Watched a bunch of ‘nominated’ movies on AMC this weekend.

Godfather II - great movie, but it seems they always show this one and not part I.

Appolo 13 - First time I saw it. Liked it.

The Last Samurai - Watched it with my 9 year old. We were both crying our eyes out at the end. Best part was when my son rubbed his eyes and said, ‘this movie is very moving’…was just funny at the time.

Taking Chance - HBO film with Kevin Bacon. He’s a ‘desk jockey’ Marine Colonel that volunteers to escort home the body of a fallen Marine. Was really an awesome movie that had the whole Say family crying.

So, after the tear fest I switched on Big Trouble in Little China. Was actually the first time I’d seen it and I want to thank all of you that recommended it.

Yeah, I’m not sure about her yet. I watched another movie a week or two ago, Battle in Seattle, with her in it. She wasn’t in it much, but I found her annoying in that movie as well.

Perhaps she should stick to horror films? I think I need to see her in a few other things before I render my final verdict on her.

hahaha…well played.

You had a good point about The Exorcism of Emily Rose above. I forgot she was in that.

I haven’t seen White Chicks though. I can’t bring myself to watch it.

White Chicks is funny. I can’t stand the Wayan’s brothers (THOSE particular two wayans…I like the others), but I thought that movie was their one to watch. It’s silly as hell though.

Why not? I thought it was a decent comedy (worth at least one watch)… but I like the Wayans brothers, in general, and I find Terry Crews to be hilarious.

Speaking of the Wayans brothers - I watched Boyz n the Hood this past weekend, and now I have an even greater appreciation for Don’t be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood as a comedy than I did before.

A lot of spoof movies are tough to fully appreciate when you don’t get the references, but I liked that one from the start (and will probably enjoy it even more when I watch it again now that I “get” a lot more of the references).

Boyz n the Hood was sick, too. Can’t believe I waited so long to watch it.

Not a fan of Don’t Be a Menace or Scary Movie (I spit my soda all over my lap the first time I saw that one in theaters)?

I like Shawn and Marlon, though I would say I find Shawn to be the better of the two. But, to be honest, I don’t think it gets much better than Damon in Major Payne (his standup is good, as well).

Prof X pretty much touched on why. I usually can’t stand those two particular Wayans brothers. I’ve always thought all the talent in that family was with Keenan Ivory and Damon (I’m Gonna Git You Sucka is one of my favorites).

However, if you guys think it’s funny, then perhaps I’ll give it a shot down the line. It’s not like I haven’t wasted an afternoon on a silly movie before.

Well, Keenan Ivory was one of the writers for White Chicks (with Shawn/Marlon and a few other guys) and directed it, as well, so that might help explain things.

I don’t get the Shawn hatin’, though. Marlon can get a little tiresome in some of his movies - and I don’t think I really like him as more of a side character in his goofier flicks - but I would certainly watch a movie starring just Shawn before I would watch a movie starring just Marlon.

Guess this is just a classic case of “to each, their own”.

I’ll let it slide this time, but only because you mentioned you like Bruce Campbell a few pages ago (and even though this is a movie thread, I’ll take a sentence to pimp his book: If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor).

White Chicks isn’t bad for what it is. Then again, I also liked Don’t be a Menace…

Speaking of the Wayans, I really miss In Living Color. I wish they had that on Hulu.
