Movies You've Watched This Week?

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins- It was ok. For a dollar, that’s the most I would’ve paid to see. Anyway, had one or two funny parts, but that’s about it.

What Happens in Vegas - Ridiculous premise for a movie, but the first half of the movie was kind of funny. The second half followed the same predictable path of most romantic ‘comedies’. Any bets on whether or not they make the marriage somehow work?

I thought it was funny as well. It was a while back when I saw it in the theater, but the part that did get me laughing was when he removed the bathroom door. I would probably rent it again for a dollar. And like you said, the ending was lame.

just rented:

Call of the Wild
and
Restraint

 we’ll see

Saw The Quest For Fire this afternoon. It was awesome, Ron Pearlman, Rae Dawn Chong running around naked lots of caveman violence and sex. Caveman sex=rape, in case you were wondering. It was hysterically funny, though I’m not sure it was meant to be.

I am Legend - Worst ending ever. Did they run out of money or something?

Tao of Steve - TC wrote about this movie in a Atomic Dog awhile back so I checked it out. As a movie it was slow and kind of boring. A few funny parts here and there but the whole “Tao of Steve” bits were excellent.

There Will Be Blood - Nate is gonna kill me, but I didn’t get it. Daniel Day Lewis was killer, but I just didn’t really get what the movie was trying to do. Guy gets rich drilling oil, he’s kind of a dick, beats the shit out of crazy bible thumpers, the end. Something seemed to be missing.

It’s funny, I put Tao of Steve in my queue after TC referenced it, too. Only it’s a little too far down in my queue to be sent to me anytime soon.

I bought the original book for I Am Legend, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it. I basically wanted to see if the book’s ending was any better. I actually liked the first half of the movie, but the end lost me.

I loved There Will Be Blood, but I agree when people call it the “Daniel Day Lewis show”. I can see how people wouldn’t like it outside of his performance. What can I say, it just did ‘it’ for me. I guess I enjoyed how much of a terrible and greedy person he was. I thought the movie was showing us that he was slowly going mad, but my friend says I’m wrong. I didn’t read the book it was based off of either, so maybe I missed the point.

Speaking of Nate, I haven’t seen him post in a while. Is he on vacation?

It’s not a plot driven narrative, but the story of the evolution of a character. You see how he goes from being a man to an archetypal monster.

I’ve been ‘busy’ this week:

The Proposition - I thought it was a little slow, but I thought it was an interesting story with a good cast.

August - It’s a basically a movie about Josh Hartnett’s character being a arrogant, dot-com, douchebag and then watch him scramble and squirm when the dot-com bust happens. It’s okay, but it’s kind of boring.

Land of the Dead - I’m also a sucker for zombie flicks, so I watched this. There are some good gory parts, like any good zombie movie should have. I also liked how it was different in the beginning in that they would distract the zombies while looking for supplies, rather than everyone is just on the run from the zombies.

Redbelt - I’m not sure how I felt about this. I liked the fighting scenes and the instruction scenes, but otherwise I felt this was kind of weird. The characters kept repeating lines of dialog and all the characters seemed to have back stories that they didn’t bother explaining, but somehow assumed we’ll just understand. Imagine having the feeling of walking into a movie halfway through, but the feeling never really goes away.

Coach Carter - I liked this movie, but I’m biased since it takes place in the Bay Area (even though I avoid Richmond as much as possible). Someone else mentioned that it’s always entertaining to see Samuel L. Jackson yell at people. I have to agree.

Ned Kelly - It’s weird seeing Heath Ledger in movies now. One, because he’s no longer with us, but two, because I think of him as The Joker now. Anyway, I really liked this.

I also watched the first episode of Trueblood since it’s available on DVD. I thought it was okay. I’ll be interested to see what they do with this show as the season goes on.

I saw nate post today or yesterday.

I Am Legend’s ending did suck big time.

I watched Rambo, bloody and violent, the only reason why it was good was really because of the action otherwise the story sucked, the newer version cant even hold a candle to the old one, First Blood

I also saw “In Bruges”, which was a fuckin good ass movie, funny as hell too.

I saw Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express. I was laughing my ass off throughout almost the entirety of both films.

I have The Omega Man on the way next just to compare. I saw it eons ago and remember next to nothing so I’m interested to see how it compares to I am Legend.

I think I’ll check out There Will Be Blood again when it hits the movie channels. I’m still pretty on the fence about if I liked it or not. Felt the same way about Open Range with Costner and Duvall, first time I saw it I hated it, now it’s one of my favorite movies.

Purple Violets - Another Edward Burns movie. I usually don’t like him, as outside of The Brothers McMullen, his other movies have sucked, but I actually liked this movie. It’s a little too long though. They probably could have cut 10 minutes out of this movie and it wouldn’t have changed anything.

Letters from Iwo Jima - I liked this a lot. It was interesting to see a movie told from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers, especially since I just watched Flags of Our Fathers a few months back. I recommend watching both (in that order).

An American Crime - This movie broke my heart. It’s a sad, but true, story about the torture and murder of a young girl by a housewife (not her mother) that was taking care of her. Another good performance from Ellen Page. Catherine Keener is good as well.

American Psycho 2 - I mainly watched this because I like Mila Kunis, but this was lame. It was a weak attempt to link this to the first American Psycho and just a bad movie overall.

American Werewolf in London - I haven’t seen this since I was a kid, so it was interesting to watch this again now. I still enjoyed it. His initial transformation scene is still interesting to watch. The end cracks me up.

Normally I don’t do spoilers, but I sort of am with these next two because I found them both equally pointless.

The Promotion - When the movie starts, you think it’s going to be one of those comedies where the main two characters are going to go at each other the whole movie while going after the same job promotion. It wasn’t and they don’t. Plus, one of the characters blows the promotion all on his own by failing his drug test, so what was the point? Why let the main character off the hook like that?

Married Life - A guy is having an affair and decides to kill his wife, rather than divorce her. Then, he decides not to kill his wife and stay with her instead. The end. Again, what was the point of this movie?

I got roped into watching “In the Land of Women” last nite. Not bad for a chick movie…didn’t end how I hoped…with me being roped, but whatever, I get brownie points I suppose.

I watched Mr. Brooks twice this week with Kevin Costner and Dane Cook. Great movie, I wonder what Demi Moore dose to her self to stay looking the way she dose. What is she now 60? 65?

I just saw Pineapple Express tonight, and I thought it was horrible. I know some people thought it was funny, but unless you grew up a pot head high as a kite, you just cannot relate. A couple funny moments, but a rental at best. I even question that.

I thought there was some funny parts but not b/c of Seth Rogan, I dont find his “brand” of comedy funny at all. Every thing funny came from the rest of the cast.

I just could not get into it, because like you said its just not my type of comedy. The pot head humor is something I can’t relate to so I should have known better. I thought it might be funny because of movies Seth Rogen made like Knocked Up.

The Invasion - I liked it. Certainly didn’t tarnish the original Invasion of the Bodysnachers in any way. Good, entertaining flick.

I can’t figure out if Nicole Kidman is hot or not either. Her butt looked pretty amazing, but her face looks kind of unnatural to me. Plus there is the whole Tom Cruise thing.

x2. Somewhere along the line, her face became expressionless. I don’t know if it’s too much botox or whatever, but her eyebrows don’t seem to move at all. I think that actually worked for her character in The Golden Compass though.

I do think she’s attractive though.
