It also forced the two leads to fall in love in order to survive, even though they were at each other’s throats when they first met (they survived, IMO, because they disliked each other when the virus took hold). They end up not caring about the ‘you know what’ because they end up caring only about each other.

My theory is that the leads are still infected at the end, not cured: by reversing the meaning of language, they reverse the effects of the virus but become infatuated with each other instead of wanting to kill each other (hence the excessively romantic nightclub ending).
Infatuation becomes a symptom of the disease…

Man, you’ve put a lot of thought into this. I appreciate the movie a lot more after reading your posts.

Thanks! I’m genuinely glad that you’ve gotten more out of the movie after my posts, and been interested enough to discuss it in the first place (I wouldn’t have commented on some points if you hadn’t posted!) - I’d hate for people to dismiss this as crap, because it’s not…
I don’t really understand what this thread is about anymore, lol. First it’s about horror, now it’s about comedies, so I’ll throw this little gem out there:
Unknown: I threw this on my rental list, even though the synopsis made it out to be a Saw knock-off (it’s not). It turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable action-thriller with more than its fair allocation of twists. Definitely stands up to repeat viewings.
I have heard negatives about this one though. Anyone else seen it.
Unknown has been ordered.
To be completely honest, I haven’t seen it, but I’ve actually heard good things about it from several people who rather enjoy horror movies, so I thought I’d post it up. It’s on my to-watch list.
I have 2 movies ONE is Grave of the Fireflies. I don’t care what your view of cartoons or anime is. This is a TOP notch film. WATCH it and you will NEVER view them the same.
The second is Ninja Scroll. Its kinda old but you would never know it from watching. The movie is just a GREAT action warrior tale. I have nothing to compare it to except maybe the old Clint Eastwood man with no name Or Yojimbo movies. Do yourself a favor watch these 2 TRUST ME.

Good call! I was a huge fan of this movie before moving to Japan, and figured it would have been a huge hit there. I was surprised to hear that very few people had heard about it, and most anime nerds relegated it to “B-List” status.
I haven’t gone through every post here so I’m not sure if these two have come up, but:
1.) Session 9: Very spooky psychological horror film starring David Caruso (don’t laugh).
2.) The Count of Monte Cristo (2002): The previews for this movie made it look like some limp-wristed swashbuckling movie (almost like a musical) but it turned out to be awesome. The book should be required reading for every school boy IMO.

And do you vote for Book of Eli?
Book of Eli was amazing. Only one person didn’t like it: White Flash. His opinions have always been suspect.
I hated Book of Eli as well. I figured out about two minutes into the film that Eli was blind and at the first mention of him having the Bible I realized that he had it all in his head. If Mila Kunis had shown some pink it would have been bearable, but aside from a couple decent fight scenes I found it boring and predictable, and at the end of the film I found myself saying “that’s it?”
