He expects 30 grand for that?
I think that is just barely covering the parts.
Is that what most custom bikes are selling for?[/quote]
Most customs (chops and such) are much higher, i think they are a little over priced for sure, but alot of it is just owning something that not many people have. A nice Harley by the time you customize it to your liking will usually run about the same, i have around $26000 in mine and i am not nearly done. The truth is, yeah they are way overpriced, but its a hobby like anything else, we all tend to spend too much on our hobbies.
I used to also “have” a TL1000R. Lets just say at the level of experience i was on the bike, i’m lucky i’m still here. The day i gave it back to it’s rightful owner(it was really on long loan), he somehow managed to put it down, again, on the very next day. Apparently the shifter broke off in traffic, he looked down, and when he looked back up he was about to rear end somewhat so he stomped on the brakes and lowsided.
I really like ratted out/street fightered bikes. they are pretty badass. Friends got a Triumph speed triple which has an amazingly torquey engine, and another a kawasaki z1000 , which doesnt seem to get much love from anyone.
Here’s a custom motorcycle with a Lincoln flathead Zephyr V-12 engine. Saw this bike at Wauseon a couple of years ago. The radiators (and fans) are hidden in the saddlebags. Yes, I watched the guy start it and ride it around.
Just in the process of selling my first real motorbike now, which is a Yamaha Virago - nice first bike, looks nice, handles well, sounds nice for it’s engine size (250 but V-twin) not much power or acceleration though obviously…
It looks like this;
