Damn you.

I had his picture ready to post in one more new post here before I went to work and my son came in demanding attention and I never got the chance to post it until I got back tonight.

I do have to thank you for introducing him in the FBP thread in the first place. What an incredible physique. Why the hell do I never see this guy ANYWHERE until I go searching for him?
wow I have never heard of this guy, my god he looks awesome
So I was looking for recent information about the guy, a wikipedia page, something, and this is what I found. Does anyone know if he is okay? Is this just really old information?

On November 5 of 2002, Orville Burke, 6th place finisher at the 2001 Mr. Olympia and 9th place finisher at the 2002 Mr. Olympia competitions underwent surgery to repair a triceps injury which he suffered during a photo shoot for FLEX magazine. While under anesthetic, Orville experienced a seizure and went into a coma. From there, he was placed on life support machines.

Presently, Orville is feeling better and able to talk and walk. However, a career in competitive bodybuilding is now out of the question. He will be missed by those who follow the sport of bodybuilding. Orville was known as “The Walking Eclipse” and had one of the most impressive waist to shoulder ratio in the history of bodybuilding.

This explains why I never heard about him. Guess I had just been assuming the whole time that he was still okay and just, like, really, mysteriously underrated.

Very sorry to hear this.

God don’t tell me it was Meatloaf.
LOL! Nope. It was that same dude I had seen months ago (I told you about him).

I literally almost yelled out “NARDS!” when he walked by. I’m gonna try to get a pic if I ever see him again.
That would be the weirdest thing you could possibly yell at someone I think!

Maybe to be safe next time say my real name, Sean, and see if it’s me. If I still seem confused and don’t respond, just tickle me around the crotch for 5 to 10 minutes as that is sure to get my attention if I seem to not recognize you.

Orville was so overlooked it was criminal. The dudes had one of the most massive backs on stage EVER yet was ignored in mags. He never got a mag cover despite coming in the top ten. That is what you call “UNDERrated”.

He was having surgery when the anesthetic caused him to lapse into a coma. he had mild brain damage from it which ruined his bodybuilding career. From what I understand, he is under 200lbs now and may have trouble getting around but he has stayed out of the public eye so no one knows.

When it comes to bodybuilding, some of these guys who would have made jaws dropped have gone unnoticed.

Orville Burke deserved to be on mag covers and posters. He got shafted…big time.

Ok, I started the thread so let me be the first to explain what I meant by underrated. I was speaking more from a contest point of view. I think most of the fan favorites never seemed to be the judges favorites. Even though many of these guys mentioned in this thread frequently placed pretty high in many shows they never really got the respect or attention from the judges that they deserved IMO.
Dude…then that includes EVERYONE who didn’t come in first in a contest. Most bodybuilders will get attention if they are in the top 10. Just about all will have a fan base.

There are tons of guys who were on the same level as the top ten who were never even given a spotlight…and some who were top ten who you NEVER saw on the cover of a magazine.

Maybe you could be more specific.

Otherwise, this is just a “post your favorite bodybuilder thread”.

We did that already.

3 times.
Look. I’m telling you what I meant and my opinion. If it’s been done or you don’t agree with my explanation then stop posting in it and it will go away. It’s that simple.

So true. The above pic shows him alongside Flex Wheeler. Suddenly Flex doesn’t look so damn good! Orville’s back was ahead of his time… reminds me of today’s Joel Stubbs’ back.

Brian Buchanan.

This is the picture that made me pick up weights.
