Please see to it that this conversation ends promptly by openly realising (sic) and admitting to our resident Jesuit priest that the Battle of Lepanto is the ONLY right answer to Senor Irish’s proposed posit.
You’re right Brother Chris. It was Lepanto, hands down. Jesus Fucking Christ, how could I have been so stupid as to think otherwise? Why can’t I be just like you, perfect in every way and created not in God’s image but as his replication?

Seems to me that the Battle of Lepanto is pretty analogous to the Battle of Salamis, just 2000 years later and with different East/West navies. Fairly similar in terms of outcomes and legacy. I don’t see why it uniquely is the most important battle ever.

But to be quite honest, while I think there have been major decisive battles in the formation of the world as it is today, I think it is equally clear that it is impossible to choose just one.

The Battle of Ain Jalut.

Who knows what would have happened the Mongols won and continued to advance across Africa and into Europe.

Whats wrong with you guys ? The battle on planet Reach was the most important. It would eventually lead to the fall of the Covenant.

I picture Bro Chris as more “Dominican” than “Jesuit”.

The Covenant would have wiped us all out.

I thought he was Mufasa.

I was a child of the Cold War era. While it isn’t a battle per se, I think the Cuban Missle Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear annihilation, and if JFK and Khrushchev never reached an agreement, life on Earth would be like one of the bleak, apocolyptic films like “The Road” or “The Book of Eli.”
Hey! Do you remember those three whales trapped in the frozen Arctic Ocean?

I remember the Cold War and I remember this event and when the Soviets sent their biggest ice breaker they flew an American flag along with their own on the ship. I remember being shocked and hopeful.

I would have to say one of the most important battles was the Battle of Culloden. Though I’m not quite sure Bonny Prince Charlie would have been a good ruler, I’m pretty sure the Scots would have liked to maintain their independence.

I don’t believe any one battle in history can be portrayed as “the most important.”

I stand by Tours as my answer. As far as WWII goes, I would pick Moscow. Moscow was the central transportation hub of the entire Soviet Union. If the Germans had taken it that would have been game over.
