pregnant woman here in Charleston, SC asked to leave PF because she was showing belly.
Honestly, this is probably the only story that doesn’t bother me. If their policy is “no-midriff” showing then it applies all around. Being pregnant doesn’t make you immune to that rule.
Yeah, this is not really that big of a deal. Which I don’t find many of the things PF does to be a big deal except for that damn siren, and some of their “Looking at you is intimidating people” type bullshit. My wife is pregnant and she wears my tshirts to workout now because hers don’t fit anymore. Why didn’t the woman just take the tshirt that was offered to her and continue working out? If you make a scene, claiming to be embarrassed doesn’t really hold much water.

Agreed.
PF is what it is. I think a lot of the people who make a show out of getting thrown out of PF for dropping weights or deadlifting heavy are clowns. If you want to work out seriously, you ought to know that PF’s policies are not conducive to that sort of thing and find another place; nobody forced you to work out there. If you’re traveling and PF is the only gym in town, then suck it up for a few days and do a workout that won’t violate their policies, even if that means lifting lighter than usual.
The only thing that bugs me is their marketing as a “judgement free” zone when they’re really just judging in the opposite direction. No big deal if they want to create a cardio-bunny-and-pink-dumbbell environment but then call it what it is, don’t play up this holier-than-thou “judgement free” card while throwing out people who don’t fit your clientele’s image.
So a private business has a dress code?
I don’t really see a problem. They can have whatever rules they want, as long as they are clear about them before they take someone’s money.
She’d fit right in at my gym. You see all sorts of skin there. There’s midriff-baring cardio bunnies. There’s tobacco-chewing fat guys who lift in work boots and ratty t-shirts with cut-out sleeves that put their gut on full display. There’s a few 20-something fit guys who work out in what can only loosely be described as a shirt. There’s naked old men in the locker room who prop a leg up on the bench to dry their balls while they chat you up about the weather.
And this is all before you get into the pool and sauna area.
WOW! the same people that say it’s no big deal to kick a pregnant women out of the gym complaine about a hot mom getting booted for training her son.
if it’s in the contract it’s ok.

Working out with a friend or relative and teaching them to lift isn’t the equivalent of training. If it is in the contract that third party training is forbidden, I would think that likelihood of compensation for said training would have to be a factor. Teaching your kid to lift=/=Training. Dress Code is about as cut and dry as you can get. Plus they didn’t even kick pregnant lady out, they merely asked her to dress in a manner that fit the dress code and provided, free of charge, fitting attire. That is more than accommodating. Pregnant lady 100% to blame for incident.

my issue is there were other women at PF dressed just like her that were not asked to leave or wear a t-shirt. she and others have been wearing that style of clothing since joining. she even had her membership photo taken with that style of top. if you’re going to enforce the rules do it across the board. make everyone that didn’t meet the rules wear a t-shirt and not just single out 1 person.
I agree about the right to train your kid but if it’s in the contract enforce it across the board. no more helping your buddy get that last curl out in the squat rack.

Yes she might have had her photo taken in that tank and there might have been others wearing similar tanks. Was she pregnant when she had that membership photo taken. I know my wife has resorted to wearing my tshirts because she can no longer wear many or her casual shirts and tanks without bearing her midriff. The “other girls were wearing similar tanks and I had my membership photo taken in this tank” line was either an extremely thinly veiled attempt at a purposely misleading statement or she is really so stupid as to have missed the point that badly. I vote the former.
Good for PF they have rules and they enforce them. Who really gives a shit BTW its not a gym they even advertise that they are not a gym
She’s a total drama queen. They have a dress code of no bare midriff and they enforced it nicely by offering her a free tee-shirt which, apparently, she refused.
Pretty sure she’s in the wrong here … and she clearly doesn’t know how to dress herself. You’re pregnant … wear a longer shirt. There’s no reason her belly should be sticking out. I personally don’t have an issue with it, but she’s violating the dress code.
I hate Planet Fitness as much as anyone else, but rules are rules.
Obviously people don’t understand the difference between working out with someone and training them. A lot of the gyms I have worked out at or trained people at had that rule. You can’t have a trainer training clients, even if it is your son that aren’t hired by the gym. Why is this such a big issue? Places have their rules, they are private companies that provide a service. If you don’t like the rules GTFO. Pregnant lady was offered a shirt which is more than accommodating.
Why was it such a big deal to her? Why was showing her stomach of such utmost importance? Every gym goes over their rules with you before/when you sign up. If the rules aren’t to your liking then don’t join. It’s funny how people know these places have rules they don’t agree with, yet still join and then complain when they get asked to leave or conform to policy. You wouldn’t go to Crossfit gym and demand they stop doing kipping pull ups. Why would you go to a Planet Fitness and demand they let you drop weights and scream to the top of your lungs while lifting. Would you go to a Curves gym or similar gym that caters to overweight women only, and demand that they let you join because you’re a man? Find the place that sits right with you and ignore the rest. Most of these Planet Fitness hate threads could be solved by people just following the above advice.

I was gonna see if it would be worth it to get a membership just to eat the pizza. I mean a large cheese is like $13 bucks and they do Pizza every week right?
