More Movies You've Watched This Week

The Crazies looks good.

Star Trek- 2nd time watching it. Good as the first.

Food, Inc.- very good doc looking at how corrupt the food industry is.

Jennifer’s Body. Not being a big Megan Fox fan, I didn’t appreciate this movie’s strongest point, which was how hot Megan Fox is. Although the kissing scene is awesome, but that’s definately the only thing worth staying awake for. A slightly confused movie. Despite the pretty wierd story, it could have been done much much better. I was kind of amused at the ending though.
Not what you would expect from the author of Juno.

Watched Blade last night, awesome stuff. Never gets old.

Opinions?

Thought the creature CGI really looked kind of awkward… The colors ain’t helping either… He watched too many of the more recent star wars movies I guess…

Human forces seem to be a mixture between Halo ship/flier designs and Matrix walkers plus the ever-present infantry, which, true to the unofficial rules of Sci-Fi-Movie-Human-Infantry-Behavior, still fights as if they were armed with spears and shields instead of guns.

Or perhaps they got their tactics from the Command And Conquer games… Again, just like the clone troopers and co of Star Wars fame… I’ll never understand why sci-fi directors never allow Human troops to act in a manner that actually resembles that of a modern army.
You’d think that in a future in which we’ve got all kinds of VTOLs, energy weapons and giant fleets of space-ships, our tactics would AT LEAST not deteriorate to a point of “amass troops in some place that’s not defensible at all, hope for the best”…

Perhaps it would be more enjoyable if they made it like the Final Fantasy movie? I hate the mix of real life acting and way to much CGI. This is why I didn’t like GI Joe that much. It was released in 2001 so I would imagine the technology now to make such a video would be pretty good graphically.

Boot Camp - Pretty good movie and Mila Kunis is oh so fine. I have a hard time how accurate the claim of “based on true stories” is.

Food, Inc. - Amusing documentary on the food industry.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Great movie, despite me having close to no idea what was going on story-wise half of the time. Fucking cool movie.

What Doesn’t Kill You - Decent movie about some small time criminals trying to get by and handle their families.

A History of Violence - Good movie, kind of drawn out. About an ex-big time criminal who starts his life over with a new identity; it catches up to him.

District 9 - Good movie. An original take on the alien genre. The filming was original, too. Reminded me of that movie about the giant monster in Japan or whatever. And the main character reminds me of Borat. But it’s all gravy; the movie was good.

The Mist - Good movie about human behavior, but it had some explaining to do. What was the mist and what were the monsters? And in the end, why didn’t any of the trucks with people stop for him? And why did he shoot everyone? Fucking keep trying to survive. Guess it’s supposed to say “Never give up” or some message of that nature.

The Girlfriend Experience - Started watching it because the summary seemed amusing. Was so ridiculously bland and repetitive that I couldn’t get half way through. Entirely monotone conversation, none of which is amusing or stimulating. Anybody seen all of it? Does it get better?

Knowing - Good movie, could have been done better, as has already been stated. Had me confused at times.

Bruno - Doesn’t compare to Borat remotely; don’t think I laughed once. The “jokes” were stale and crude in the worst of ways.

Next Day Air - Decent, very unrealistic movie about a drug deal gone wrong. Has the guy who plays Turk from Scrubs as one of the main characters.

The Incredible Hulk - I got this just for awesome city-smashing, cop car-crunching Hulk scenes, and very few were delivered; way too much boring dialect. What’s a good Hulk movie for me to see?

X Men Origins - Wolverine: Very well-done movie with a great balance of amusing story line and great action scenes.

Adventureland - Mildly amusing. I feel it’s been done before. I honestly don’t even fully remember what it was about. Reminded me a lot of Juno, and a bit of that one movie with the skinny kid and the chubby kid on a quest to get liquor for some girl’s party.

The Devil Wears Prada - Good, yet predictable movie about the fashion world. I wonder if it’s actually anything like that.

Wedding Crashers - Alright movie, kind of funny. Worth the watch.

Up - Very amusing movie. Had me saying “This is brilliant” at times.

The Hangover - Overrated, in my opinion. Alright movie, nonetheless, but it has been done many times prior.

Notorious - Good movie about Biggie’s life. Biased as Diddy was involved in the making, but not to a high degree; good movie.

Pirate Radio - I’m currently watching this and it’s very good. I’m loving the atmosphere and the story is both original and very amusing. If you’ve seen the British TV show Skins, the atmosphere is similar, in my opinion; and it’s an atmosphere that I very much enjoy. Debauchery executed in an intelligent, clever, and amusing manner.

In the queue:
-Kung Fu Panda
-Inglorious Bastards
-Zombieland
-Armageddon
-Ink
-Inside Man
-The Wrestler
-Valkyrie
-Shooter (I started watching this one and it was so generic and boring, I stopped 20 minutes in. Does it get any better? Worth a watch?)
Any opinions on the movies in the queue? All worth a watch, or no?

Zombieland is grand.

You do smoke a lot of pot don’t you?

The Mist was from a military experiment in trying to open door ways into other universes (parallel dimensions). the creatures are what was on the other side.
The trucks didn’t stop because either A. they were loaded with people and there were more trucks or B. it was like F- you should have helped that lady out to find her son who survived

He shot everyone because it seemed like the best way out of a fucked up situation that wasn’t going to get better.

Last Stop for Paul- low budget, off beat, feel good movie about traveling the globe.

Altered- smart and fun alien/horror flick, it delivers for scifi fans.

I was going to write much more in response, but this is ok.

Also, in the book, they never get away from the Mist. They never find out if anyone else survived even though those same four people make it out in the truck. They end up in an old hotel I believe and the book is the main character’s telling of what happened…as he is writing it down just in case someone in the future finds the bodies.

The idea to kill them all was one that even Stephen King stated he never would have thought of…but he liked it (thank you Hollywood for not fucking that one up).

How deep was Artem watching it if he missed the idea of cross worlds?

Edit: Also, this is possibly one of the closest book adaptations I have ever seen in a movie aside from the ending. They stuck right with the story all of the way up to that point.

Guys Put some spoiler warnings on your shit lol.

Watch this trailer. First time in a while I’ve actually been excited about a horror movie…

Looks good. I can’t watch Timothy Olymphant in a serious role though. The guy’s face cracks me up and always takes me back to “The Girl Next Door” (“those crazy little fuckers. sure know their numbers!”)

Check out this upcoming horror movie.

LOL THE LEGION man when that trailer come on the theater for District 9 and the guy said some cheezy line like “Because your child is the only salvation for mankind” the whole theater laughed. IDK how you can actually be excited for that movie LOLOL

I just finished watching Harry Potter and the half blood prince SPOILER ALERT…Dumbledore dies!

Jennifer’s Body

started off really weird, but it wasn’t bad. Nothing great, but it kept me interested

I turned the vs. channel on at 3:00pm today, Bloodsport was on (awesome!) but its replayed 4!! more times in a row!

Anvil…The Story of Anvil.

I’ts a documentery on this Canadian metal band from the eighties. Sad and funny at the same time. Anyone who is in a band starting out, or know of someone who is, should give this a look.

The Losers- probably one of the best movies I’ve seen in 2010.

action packed with good humor

This thread seemed to die off for no apparent reason so I thought I’d give it a bit of a kick again…

Just got back from seeing Buried with Ryan Reynolds. Was pretty good and well worth a watch but you certainly need a bit patience to get through it. I think it was in real time(just under two hours). Reynolds was the actor we knew he could be(i.e. not just Van Wilder in a different movie)and knocked it out of the park with this one IMO.
Spoiler Alert
I thought it suffered from the movie being so good that the ending just couldn’t live up to it. It just seemed kind of, obvious. The movie itself was spectacularly done though, I actually felt a little claustrophobic at certain times. Also, the amount of air in the box seemed pretty endless but I suppose they couldn’t end the movie after 5 mins.
End Spoiler Alert

Would recommend but only to those with a bit of patience.

I miss Angry Vader:(

Truly a good guy…who watched A LOT of porn…

…but still.
