More Movies You've Watched This Week

Last night, I made two of the biggest mistakes of my life: the first was renting Rottweiler; the second was watching it to the bitter end. The publicity blurb pitched it as “the story of a dog who was beaten severely at a young age and has surgery, in which it’s bones are replaced with metallic bones.”, I thought it would be a sort of old-school revenge thriller with a cybernetically enhanced pooch as the ‘hero’. Sounded interesting at the time. I was wrong.

Turns out that the dog was the villain, was not seeking revenge as it hadn’t been beaten at a young age and had no redeeming qualities whatsoever, even thought the director (Brian Yuzna, who should know better) tried to even the playing field by casting a guy so devoid of screen presence that the camera closed in on his ass more than his face.

Basically, take Terminator, throw in a dog and take out all the good bits. The only plus I can think of is that this cinematic stink bomb marks the screen debut of a bona-fide star in the making. The future of acting is here, and it’s chicken-shaped. In one small cameo, this feathered phenomenon demonstrates more emotional range than Channing Tatum has managed in his entire career to date. Prepare yourselves for the best breakthrough performance since Sharlto Copely in District 9:

That clip pretty much is the highlight of the movie.
Hahaha, you are so right about that one.

Where is he, anyway? Haven’t seen him post in a while, though I don’t read GAL etc much so that’s not saying a whole lot.

He’s fine, just doesn’t really come around here anymore. He’s on Facebook (as are several of us). PM me if you want his info.

Zombieland.

Great fun, except the bitches. Watch it, and you’ll know what I mean.

I’d at least fed that little one to the Zombies.

Shenanigans, Emma Stone was on fire in that movie.

Now that I’d like to see!

Kinda fed up with the whole loser men, badass chick trend. Especially when it comes down to it, the men forgive all in the name of love and risk their lives for someone who doesn’t give a Zombie’s ass about theirs.

The Last Samurai - I think this is one of Tom Cruise’ better movies, great story line and action. Hell, the scenery alone is worth watching this.

The only movie he looks of normal stature is one where only plays next to Japanese.

Nah, he wouldn’t. He cracked up everytime I vented about Channing Tatum. Just wanted you all to share in my suffering. Misery loves company

And there are far, far worse pics from his modelling career that I could’ve posted.
…and you mentioning Channing Tatum and me in the same post was enough to temporarily bring me out of post retirement. Fucking Channing Tatum!

I’ve been around, just kind of laying low and I’m just kind of burnt out on on the forums, in general. I still peek at this thread and the Geek thread as often as I can. I’ll try to make more of an effort to post in these threads when I have time.

I’m still training and I think I’m over most of my injuries finally. I was actually thinking about starting up my training log again.

Yes, I’m also on Facebook if you want to look me up there.

Since this is a movie thread, I guess I shouldn’t post without talking about what I watched last week:

Orphan - I thought this was alright. I did think it was a little too long and kind of felt like I was watching a lesser remake of The Good Son. I thought the end kind of sucked.

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan - If you’re a BSG fan, then I think you’ll like this. Kind of a nice behind-the-scenes story told from the Cylons point of view. You see much more of the attack on the colonies and they did a good job with integrating the story with scenes from the series. Worth a watch if you’re into BSG.

The Brothers Bloom - I thought this was okay. I thought it was interesting for the most part, but the story kind of started to lose me in the last 30 minutes. It’s two hours long, so it’s a bit too long for the type of movie it was.

Wrong Turn 3 - I agree with Prof X here. I thought this sucked ass. I liked that it was cops and convicts against the mutants, but was very disappointed that they didn’t do a better job of fighting them off, especially since they were armed with guns. Also, why in the hell wouldn’t you put another bullet in the head of the mutant to really make sure it was dead? Burn down their house as you’re leaving, too. That kind of shit just frustrates the hell out of me in movies like this.

Blood: The Last Vampire - I thought this was terrible, as well. The acting and story were crap. I thought the action was generic and clumsy. It was so forgettable, I can barely even tell you what it was about.
MaximusB wrote:
Has anyone seen Defiance? I think it came out today on DVD and I might rent it if it’s worth seeing.
I liked Defiance, I thought it was good…
I rented Transormers this last weekend and loved it, eventhough it got bad reviews

Sorry about that, but desperate times call for desperate measures. It was all part of an elaborate plan to flush you out. I took the liberty of installing a spy camera at the entrance to the forum to record your reaction. Here’s the footage of you reading my post:

The only known antidote is to watch all the movies in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s back catalogue - oh wait, Channing Tatum is in two of them…shit

Totally understand that. I’ve been on a bit of hiatus myself. Everyone needs time out now and again. Even Sith lords. The Death Star wasn’t built in a day…

Good to hear you’re on the road to recovery. Didn’t know you’d left it (due to aforementioned hiatus). May the force be with you!

Defiance is definately worth watching. I also saw Pandorum a few weekends ago and thought it was actually quite good in the scheme of sci-fi/suspense.

Ah, was contemplating whether I should watch it or not (Pandorum). Guess I’ll give it a go…

anyone seen Pandemic?

EDIT: 30 days of night.

Watched this last night. No story to why vampires came to a village. Was it just to feed? Was not a slow movie started out pretty quick and stayed up to pace. Some things were gory and not to overly scary. Some things I didn’t get: Where did the 6-8 year old little girl come from? How did she turn into a vampire without being attacked? I’m sure she would have been killed? Where did the vampires take all the bodies? Especially the guy in the jail and the grandma?

So many questions that were not answered…

I saw that movie in theaters years back when it first came out. I personally thought it didn’t live up to it’s potential (which is why it felt like it was a let down) but was a slightly better than average horror movie.

that was a pretty decent movie.

is it 30 Days of Night, or 30 days and nights?

It was 30 days OF Night…referring to the fact that this far north there entire months free of day light.

I thought it was pretty obvious they came to the village just to feed and also that they chose that place because it would be isolated during that time period. That girl must have been with them to start with or maybe she was just bitten. I didn’t consider that to be very important. Kids can be vampires too.

It was also based on a graphic novel and I think they did a decent job of it.
Professor X wrote:

That’s the one.

I think it was the type of filming or it had a type of graininess/darkness to it that made it enjoyable. I’m glad they didn’t strain away from the gory factor/violence with a movie like this. It makes Edward look like a pussy. Possible Spoiler The final fight scene was pretty bad ass. Talk about “POW right in the kisser!”.

Phew! Fuzzy, you had me going for a minute there! But you pulled it back from the brink at the last minute. And both Josh Harnett movies, too.

I’m not a huge horror/scary movie fan at all but I liked this one for what it was worth. Not to scary just about right for me I guess.

Anyone have suggestions on scary movies to watch? The gf gets tired of the movies I pick that aren’t scary.
