I’d recommend trying to understand his point of view even if it flies in the face of your own beliefs/observations … generally speaking, we know shit about shit when we rely on our own observations to inform us of the world at large. At the very least, engaging in constructive conversation, like asking pointed questions to someone who we think is loony or we just don’t understand and want to dismiss, can be illuminating and help broaden your perspective, even if you continue to disagree with their points…
It takes a level of humility in accepting we don’t know everything and we may encounter opinion or fact that flies in the face of what we think we know…
Just some food for thought if you REALLY are in here in good faith. If you’re looking for affirmation, keep doing what you’re doing to this point and circle the wagons so to speak…

Does it matter who I say it to? This is a public forum where everyone can read anything posted by whoever. I’d think it’d be pretty clear it’s general advice that anyone can choose to take or not. Maybe I’m wrong. If you don’t want to take it because I didn’t explicitly address someone, that’s your prerogative, however childish the reasoning is…

I flew off the handle in this thread when a white supremacist and a holocaust denier came in. Yes, it was projecting their ideas onto other people’s posts. I was understandably upset about the idea that black people are more primitive, more prone to violence, less intelligent, and need to be controlled by white people. People were looking up IQ statistics for countries without taking into account living standards and other vital issues. If I believed any of that, I could just discount anything you say due to your ‘primitive’ nature and ‘lower intelligence’.
Regardless, I issued an apology for flying off the handle and I’ve basically been civil up until this point, though I can still get fired up a bit. Your issue is that I didn’t let you use a subjective truth as the pillar for proving another subjective proof. I’m from NYC, work in Virginia now in a field with only deep red conservatives, and I spent time all over the world in the military and in traveling, and my experiences directly refute yours. Fortunately, neither of our experiences are a case study, since again, anecdotes =/= data. It’s just a disagreement. You led it down the name-calling route.
