Rest before a meet is good. Good luck with the weight thing … I am sure your gonna do great!

Light Weights and White Lights!

Thanks Malinda.

Nothing heavy today. Just went through my warmups up to about 75% for a couple of singles. I’ll do the same on Wednesday for my Bench, probably work up to 275 for a single. Just enough to stay fresh without any fatigue.

Good luck at your meet. Your lookin strong as hell!

Good luck man, looking forward to seeing the numbers you put up.

5 days out…

BW Pre-Breakfast: 279.0 lbs
BW Post-Breakfast: 281.9 lbs (PR+2 lbs)

Nice little bloat this weekend, thanks to a bunch of Buffalo wings, pizza, chips 'n dip, etc. and a few beers. Weight should come down about 2lbs a day for the next 3 or 4 days. Just can’t do this next Friday night.

Ah, come on, only 26 more pounds to go until you hit the edge of the 308s. Embrace your inner (and outer) fatness!!

Good luck at the meet. BTW, in what meet are you competing?

Thanks IronAbrams. I’ll post the results and a video after the meet.

Heheh. 275 is plenty for me right now.

The meet is the 2008 USAPL MA/RI State Championships. It’s being held at ACS Fitness in Abbington, MA which is only about 40 minutes from my house. It will be nice to sleep in my own bed before a meet for a change.

Kill 'em all Modi

Thanks guys. I’ll report back tomorrow after the meet. I feel well rested and definitely ready to move some heavy weights.

11/22/08 - 6:30am D-Day

BW Pre-Breakfast: 269.2 lbs
BW Post-Breakfast: 270.7 lbs

I ate. I’m happy. Time to weigh in.

Best of luck!

I weighed in at 271.4lbs this morning, so I competed at 275 Raw at the 2008 USAPL MA/RI State Championships

It was a good day!

Squat
Opener - 475 lbs - 3 whites
2nd - 510 lbs (PR +8lbs) - 3 whites
3rd - 525 lbs (PR +23lbs) - 3 whites

Bench
Opener - 340 lbs - 3 whites
2nd - 365 lbs - 3 reds
3rd - 365 lbs (Tie PR) - 3 whites

Deadlift
Opener - 565 lbs - 3 whites
2nd - 610 lbs (PR +5lbs) - 3 whites
3rd - Pass

Total
1500 lbs (PR +39lbs)

Judging was super strict today. I couldn’t believe how many squats were red lighted for depth. I decided to stick with my game plan, but not pull my elbows as far forward as usual, so that I would sink deeper before touching my elbows to my thighs. I smoked 475. 510 went up well, but it didn’t feel as good as it looked, however I bombed this one at Albany Strength in the Spring. 525 felt like nothing coming out of the rack, and I left some weight on the platform, but happy to hit a couple big PR’s!

It seemed like half of the lifters were getting called for sinking the weight into their chest after the press command. I know I am guilty of this, so I was a little concerned. 340 was an easy lift. 365 felt like it was going to go up, but I didn’t get the pop off the chest, and once again I missed at lockout, so I took 365 again. I had really wanted to take 375 for my 3rd attempt to put me in a good position to break 1500. I sunk the bar into my chest after the press command, but did not get called for it. I also had my thumb loops still on, but the judges said it was their fault for not telling me before the lift. Hey, whatever, I’ll take it.

My plan was to be sitting at 900 going into the DL, and take 600 on my second attempt to break 1500. But with the 365 bench, I knew I was going to have to try 610. Warmups had gone smoothly, and my opener went up about as well as I could have hoped. So I called for 610. I’ve missed this lift 3 times in the gym, so I knew I had to dig down deep. The lift looks smoother than it felt. I almost couldn’t get my hips to lockout, but I stuck with it, and pulled a 5lb PR. Enough to reach my goal of 1500. I knew my back was toast at this point, and was only going to injure it by taking a third pull, so I called it a day, and am happy to walk away injury free.

Aside from missing my 2nd Bench attempt, I was happy with today’s effort and I think I have another 10lbs in my Squat right now. My Bench sucks, and will definitely need to be addressed. And while I don’t think my DL sucks, it has been progressing at a snails pace, so I am going to work on that as well. But for today, I’m just going to enjoy the success, and then start thinking about the next cycle in the upcoming days.

I ended up taking first place in the Raw division. They didn’t break the lifters up into weight classes today. Instead they used coefficients to decide the winner of the Raw division, and put all Raw lifters up against each other

good job, whats your training going to be like post meet?
