I think that’s fair. Can it be enforceable though?
Children should definitely get all the healthcare they need no matter what. My friends non-verbal autistic son could benefit greatly from an iPad with this special software but the license is about 2K a year and their insurance won’t cover it (they don’t have the means to cover OOP) - That’s crap.
I don’t know their situation obviously, but I find it hard to believe 2 adults can’t come up with $2,000 a year for something that seems so vital for their child.
That’s less than $170 a month. Cut back unnecessary expenses, take a 2nd job. I’ve done it in the past. I just don’t get it.
Any adult should be able to find a way to come up with an extra $2,000 a year.
I don’t disagree but they don’t make much (we’re talking probably 90K a year between the two of them), have 3 other kids and generally don’t make the best choices.
Some of my best friends but I pick my battles on that one.
Neither my friends nor myself were affluent in our 20’s and 30’s (and pretty much still is the case). Loaning a friend money was very risky if he found himself in a situation where he could not pay off his debt. It often ended with the end of a friendship.
I never loaned a friend money. I might give him money if I could afford it at the time. But I never expected to be repaid.
$2,000 a year, every year sounds very steep to me.
At $2,000 a year (after taxes) “loaning” is just a technicality. I have plenty of family responsibilities that would make that a real squeeze in my finances. Many are more financially well off than me.
Look: I agree with you, but you also haven’t stated that children should get all the healthcare they need no matter what or that you’re willing to pay increased taxes to make that happen. That’s a pretty small sum of money to let get in the way of “no matter what.”
I am not into helping people that refuse to help themselves. If you are doing everything humanly possible (I know this is impossible to know 100%), I am up for helping you.
But, if you can’t budget $170 a month while eating out, buying starbucks, buying unnecessary purchases, having the newest phone, shoes, car. whatever etc. while there is something your kid NEEDS - then I don’t feel sorry for you.
Ahhh…ever heard of Glass-Stegal? Or didn’t they teach you that in school? Who do you believe lobbied against that law to change it to make it easier to gamble with someone else’s money?
Rationalize what actions? What choices do people have in this country? What ethical consumption is there under capitalism?
Why is it always the fault of the consumer and the question of shitty wages are never brought up? Maybe that is a player. Why was my father and everyone else in the neighborhood, able to raise a family on 1 income? But now that is far more uncommon. Consumer choices OR shitty wages?
