Modern Monetary Theory: A Primer

Anything that thinks it, they, she, he, them, tree, turtle, spaceship, is a female or something.

If only someone would start a co-op from their garage so capitalism would FINALLY fail.

Exactly. These things can concurrently be true.
I don’t like big pharma for the clear corruption, but I am very thankful for some of their innovations that allow me to keep my diabetes under better control so I don’t lose my feet or eyesight.

Exactly.

And innovations cost A LOT of money.

People don’t work for free. Especially people with the education and intelligence to come up with new and novel medications and treatments.

Watch the YouTube video of AOC questioning pharma D-bag O’Day from Gilead pharma, for an example of public money being spent on a drug and a pharma company just given the patent for the drug so they can profit from it. And making people suffer and die because of the price. It would be bad enough that they made people suffer and die if they developed the drug but it’s worse when it’s divulged that public money and research brought the medication to life.

And you think pharma is responsible for insulin? They are responsible for marking up the price so high that people have to ration their insulin causing them to suffer and even die.

Recently?

They run the healthcare system in England. England often comes out on top of healthcare studies in a lot of metrics.

Something that will never happen with a representative of the Republican or Democratic party.

Thank God!

While I have disdain for AOC, she did ask probing questions of the D-bag from Gilead pharma-a merchant of death for profit. She is just a cosplay “leftist”. Nothing more than a phony who is more concerned with her career, instead of what she campaigned on. A typical politician in a corporate party.

If you bothered to watch the video before you bloviated, then maybe you’d have an idea. But that would require you to listen before you post and that is not your M.O.

And didn’t I say they should be dissolved? Because no one has done this yet means what? It can’t happen?

So because I don’t work in pharma means I can’t have knowledge of it? I post things from people who have more knowledge of the workings of the particular subject than I. You post snippets of economic thought by Schumpeter don’t you? Hmmmm…

Yeah just like the for-profit private healthcare industry where 40-60 thousand people die every year because they don’t have health insurance and we pay twice what the rest of the world pays. Let’s not forget the fantastic bankruptcy people will go through trying to save their own child. I’m so surprised the rest of the developed world doesn’t adopt our system.

But you like to listen to the mainstream and base your ideology on what they tell you is the truth.

See, that’s what you like to think, but I actually can apply the knowledge and ability I gained getting a worthwhile education to actually interpreting data.
You just spit back ideas you like more because they align with how you want the world to work vs how it actually does.

Insulin isn’t the only thing I take. And they are responsible since they have the capability to manufacture it. It’s not something you can cook or grow in your shed.

I have already agreed with you that I don’t like the current model of combining healthcare and the insurance companies into one giant racket. Additionally, I don’t think drug companies should be allowed to slightly change the insulin formula make up and market it as a brand new formulary drug. I make good money and I feel the pain everytime I buy insulin or my CGM, I know better than most exactly what it costs.

Both the good and bad facts are true. Unfortunately, it’s not a binary that’s easily resolved.

How many of those people who you claim to have died from lack of ability to afford healtchare could have prevented it by lifestyle change? 80% of cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes is completely preventable by making healthier lifechoices. No one discusses that as part of the shared responsibility for healthcare which is already paid for (the public already has shared healthcare costs in the trillions per year, driven a lot by people who refuse to take care of themselves). One of the reasons insurance is so damn high is because of lazy asses.

Different country, different rules, much less population. Historical evidence suggests our government could not achieve the same thing, unless you believe the quality of care for everyone should be at the level of the VA.

That’s exactly what he wants-at best. To the collectivist, quality is a distant afterthought compared to equality. It doesn’t matter that X, Y, and Z improve things for many without hurting anyone else; it matters that Bobby Who Lives In A Van Down By The River(AKA The Collectivist) can’t afford X, Y, and Z yet.

I’ve seen it. I have heard her speak more than she deserves.

Again, you didn’t address his question nor have you offered an alternative to the current method for developing new drugs. As usual, you operate in a fantasy world that doesn’t nor will ever exist.

Jesus fucking Christ, dude…

I suggested you read Schumpeter as one of his most well known books “Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy” talks about the subject being discussed. It was a suggestion for youto learn something from an actual economist and then form your own opinion on the subject and his work.

I have not posted “snippets of economic thought by Schumpeter…” Holy fuck.

Physicians were just protesting poor wages for half of NIH doctors… :exploding_head:

People die waiting or not getting care in every single system including every single single-payer system. Single-payer systems are not special.

We’ve been over this multiple times, Zep. This is nonsense spew because you’re sold hook line and sinker on single-payer. I’ve actually been to a VA hospital. No thank you.

You have no idea what anyone here reads/listens to.

Really? 40-60 thousand every year?

I’m sure this garbage would comfort a family who went into BK to try and save the life of their child. Man you are fucking immoral.

By their posts I’ve got a fair estimation

I doubt it.

Profit must be taken out of the equation. As I’ve stated most of the seed money and research for new formulations begin with government funding. Pharma just corrupts the system for shareholder profits. This is not a necessity!

So posting a photo of Schumpeters book where he discusses economics is not a window into his economic thought…Holy fuck.

So this means that the outcomes from the studies are wrong? God damn you make incredibly stupid and sophomoric points.

What matters is that tens of thousands of people die because of affordability and choice of treatments kept from them in order to keep them in a stranglehold and help to force their hand to choose pharma’s garbage. A “healthcare” system’s whose primary concern is profit not health. FOH. Right-wing dumbass.

Bwahahaha…says the man who would be a character n Plato’s Allegory in the Cave. Just watching shadows on the wall and believing they are reality.

And did they discover insulin? Quick do a Google search.

And this is justification for helping them to suffer and even die for profit?

Really? What is the historical evidence that suggests this?

You can’t logic your way out of a paper bag and you have a proven track record of not understanding the simplest things - like profit margin.
Yet I don’t understand reality? Tell me again of your intellectual prowess and qualifications as a failed bartender. What have you ever posted that shows you have more than an oil slick thin surface understanding of any topic?

When absolutely no one agrees with you, the problem is you.

They wouldn’t be suffering as much if they took care of themselves. Then it might be reasonable to have everyone chip in to support everyone else. A system like that is predicated on the other person holding up their end of the bargain so the system isnt overburdened. Something that won’t happen when 50% of the country is obese.
I can make an exception for truly disabled folks and others in dire need. But that’s not even close to the majority of people who would be participating in this system.

It doesn’t matter who invented it if they can’t produce and distribute the product. That’s like saying Boeing shouldn’t produce airplanes because they aren’t the Wright Brothers…

Have you not read about the VA at all? It’s horrendous.
How many government projects go over budget and over schedule (hint - its most of them)?
Have you ever stood in line at the DMV?

Interacting with the government on any level is slow, inefficient, overly bureaucratic, and always has sub par outcomes.

You’re the dumbest person I’ve ever encountered. It’s amazing.

Doesn’t understand:

  1. Population size (US 3rd largest with 20m-40m undocumented people)
  2. The purpose of bankruptcy
  3. That the supposed amazing outcomes in the UK are in part because they pay their doctors garbage wages.

Thinks:

  1. He knows what people read/listen to based on an unbelievably dumb thread started by the dumbest person on the internet.
  2. That sharing a book and suggesting you read it is the same as quoting him to prove a point.
  3. Thinks AOC is someone who’s opinion should be considered in anything.

That’s just the last 3 posts. I could write a book on all of the things you’ve misunderstood or flat out been wrong about in this thread alone.

Utter dogshit person.
