Exactly. My “boss” is really only my boss in that he signs my timecard - generally all I have to do is keep him informed of what is going on. I have all necessary authority to do what I have to do.

It just blows my mind. Does he think Wal-Mart and Target don’t have a massive online presence? Home Depot and Lowes and Ace Hardware etc… all compete with each other AND Amazon. Etsy, eBay, and every box store competes with Amazon.

Which means we’re ahead of them. It’s also hilarious you’re harping on China when they’re gains are almost exclusively in the private sector ie the most capitalist part of their economy. I have a boss…but because of my work ethic for the same company for 34 years, i pretty much do what i please and come and go when i want
but, thats not me…i show up monday thru friday, give them an hour of my own time and produce results for them

This just speaks to how ridiculous of a person this fucknugget is. He asked “Who competes with Amazon for online business?” Literally thousands of businesses from large box stores like Wal-Mart to every e-commerce store created through Shopify. THOUSANDS of businesses.
Instead of accepting he’s just dumb as fuck, he tries to reframe the question “No doofus. Who does business like Amazon dickface?”
That’s an entirely different question, but, again, the answer is A LOT. Lots of businesses do business exactly like Amazon or have adapted practices to do business like Amazon. Most major retailers models their e-commerce business off Amazon.
It’s mind-numbingly stupid.

Yep.
I was hired for my expertise and advice. I give the options and advice within the bounds of the law and the owner picks which route he wants to go.
My time is never tracked or looked at. I just do my job. And they pay me handsomely for it. With the ability to come and go as I please, which was a requisite for me even taking the job with my other businesses to manage.
Had a meeting this morning with one of these awful beings known as a boss where we checks notes discussed how to tackle problems arising out of corporate restructuring, what my thoughts are on how to integrate changes in my area of responsibility, how I can expand my role within the company, and how we can work together on any issues that come up.
Just awful.

No I don’t teach science and math but donate my time at a food bank and volunteer at an animal shelter. Not to mention I cut the grass for the old neighbor next door and take her grocery shopping once a week.
If you see that something is wrong, you have basically 2 choices. Do something or nothing. While I may not be moving the Earth I am doing something rather than nothing. Instead of just accepting things as they are and feeling helpless to change things, in so far as much as I believe they need changing, I join movements, keep informed, educate myself and make donations(money and time)
So the saying that most people hate their boss is just an old wives tale?
