I can’t wait until the Phils come to SF next month for a four-game set. Hey rajraj! You want a chance to stick a fucked up avatar on me for a month? How about it? Giants take that series in SF and you get to keep that splendid avatar of yours for another month. If they DON’T win the series, meaning that even if it’s a 2-2 split, I’ll sport whatever avatar you choose for one month. ANY avatar, I don’t give a fuck what it is. How about it?
In all honesty I really don’t care about the Phillies-Giants series.

I may not even have access to watch them.

When playoffs roll around I’ll be up for making more bets.
Shit, you’ll care about that series if that dead fucking blue jay is riding on it! How about it raj? I think the last game of the series is on ESPN.
How about the Braves series in the middle of August?

Rasmus went 0-5 in his first game as a Blue Jay, right? Yikes!

Man, the Giants haven’t played well in Atlanta over the last, oh, I don’t know…20 years. Fuck it, you’re on, barring some sort of catastrophic injury to the Giants. If Sandoval, Beltran, Schierholtz or any of their starting pitchers are injured then, the bet is off. Otherwise, you have a deal. I also reserve the right to choose a different avatar for you if you lose. Baseball-related, of course. I know gay stuff hits a little too close to home for you.

Yep, but he played a really strong centre field good routes, good coverage, very impressive.

I’ll reserve my judgement on whether the Rasmus trade worked out by All Star Break 2012

I stand by my prediction that the Rays finish below .500.

So I just heard what Charlie Manuel had to say about Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum after the two of them gave up zero earned runs in 13 innings against his team.

Basically, he said that they aren’t great pitchers, haven’t done anything to deserve being called great pitchers, said that Lincecum doesn’t have good stuff, his changeup is average and his slider and his curveball don’t do anything, can’t throw above 92 (I saw him consistently hitting 94 throughout the game against them) and that his team was just unlucky against him. He further went on to say that his team can and will beat both of them.

This guy is about as low-class as they come as far as I’m concerned. It’s beyond low-class to disparage two pitchers, who just shoved it right up your team’s ass to the tune of 13 innings of scoreless ball and two wins, in your home ballpark no less. The Giants are definitely in the Phillies’ heads at this point. They may have the best record in baseball right now but the Giants have looked like the superior team against them in their last nine meetings (in which the Giants are 6-3, of which 6 of those games have been in Philly).

The Giants just match up really well against the Phillies and in my biased opinion the Giants are the better team. Their starters are more than capable of matching zeros against any of the Phillies’ starters and their bullpen is clearly superior. It’s the best 'pen in baseball and they have two dominant lefties (Javier Lopez and Jeremy Affeldt) that they can bring out of it to face the mostly left-handed lineup the Phils trot out every day.

I was listening to KNBR today, and a couple of the hosts and guests (can’t remember their names) thought Charlie Manuel said that to give confidence to their hitters when they play the Giants again. They can’t be mentally defeated when they see Lincecum and Cain on the mound. I could agree with that. Look at the last sentence.

“They’re good pitchers. You say they’re great pitchers. To me, I don’t know how great they are. I think as they move on into their careers, there’s the longevity part and things like that. I think that’s when the greatness might come by. This is a consistent game. When you say somebody is great, tonight I saw 90 fastball, 92 at the best. I saw a good changeup. I saw a breaking ball. I saw a cutter. Good pitching, but at the same time we can beat that. I’ve seen us do that.”

“We can beat them. I know we can.”

That may be what his intention was, but it was a low-class, bullshit way to go about it. If they need a pep talk from their manager, fine. But don’t do it by publicly downplaying/belittling/minimizing/disparaging the pitchers who have shoved it right up your ass in 3 of their last 4 starts against your team. Do it behind closed doors.

Personally, I’m glad he went about it this way. He may have been intending to give his hitters a pep talk but I can guarantee you that this is going to be plastered all over the Giants’ bulletin board when they come to SF next month. It’s only going to serve to motivate the Giants even further. I’ve never seen a defending champion sitting in first place this late in the year that seems to still have so much to prove to everyone outside of themselves and their fans. The Phillies and their fans can deny it all they want, but of all the teams in the NL that could make the playoffs, the Giants are THE team that they do not want to face in the postseason. This rant from Manuel only confirms it. A pep talk? For the best team, record-wise, in the bigs? They’ve got problems with the Giants.

Hahaha! Here’s Lincecum’s responses to that sad sack of shit’s comments:

You can be dominant and throw 85. Regardless, a guy’s going to say he can hit that," Lincecum said. "Or you can throw 97 and he’ll say he can hit that, too. When it comes down to it, it’s all about execution.

I’m sure he was just speaking out of frustration and dealing with their first home series loss. It’s something they’re not used to. Maybe it has something to do with how things went last year in the LCS. I have no idea. You’ll have to ask him.

Cainer was probably throwing the same kind of [velocity] that I was throwing up there," Lincecum said. "He doesn’t try to hump up unless he necessarily has to. He still dominates teams. So I don’t know what miles per hour has to do with dominance.

They had a guy named Moyer, right?

Yep. Im sure even some of his own players think hes a bit of a lunatic for saying that stuff.

Oh yeah, they’re pissed for sure.

Honestly, I don’t get it. The Giants already play with a chip on their shoulder as it is, and it seems to fuel them. This has got to be the mentally-toughest team in the bigs and all he’s done is honed their focus even more with these comments.

They were underdogs last year in both the LCS and the Series, they dominated both teams both offensively and defensively on their way to the title and yet they still got written off by a lot of people/pundits/talking bobblehead dolls for being “lucky”.

This year they’ve become the forgotten champion due to all the undeserved praise of the Phillies and, to a lesser extent, the Red Sox. They know that they still have something to prove. They may not get back to the Series, but unless the Phillies knock them out they can still say they are the better team.

Phils just got Hunter Pence. So fucking what? One more hitter for Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, Vogelsong, Sanchez, Affeldt, Romo, Lopez and The Motherfucking Beard to buzzsaw through.

Nice response lol.

Reports are in that the Phillies have completed a deal for Hunter Pence. Give up their top hitting and pitching prospects as well as 2 other guys.

They have anyone left in their farm system? It’s basically been raped the last couple years with the acquisitions of Halladays and Oswalt.

DB’s posts always show up an hour or two late, on my end.

Braves won today. I have to agree with DB that Atlanta is pretty scary right now, and even more so in the future. They currently have three starters in their mid-20’s, I don’t know a lot about this Beachy guy, but I’ve heard good things about him. Tommy Hanson is pretty good, and Jurrjens is either leading the league in ERA, or close to it. And I am always hearing about some of the near-major league ready pitchers they’ve got in their farm system. Kimbrel and Venters have been fantastic, and again, early to mid twenties. Uggla is finally hitting well, he’s on a 20 game hitting streak or something like that. Heyward is like…21? Freddie Freeman is producing at a high level, and he’s the same age as Heyward. I know that as guys produce more, they get arbitration, or new contracts, or whatever, and it gets expensive, or impossible, to keep all of them. But man…they’re playing at a really high level with a bunch of frickin kids.

Exactly.

Holy shit. The Indians just landed Ubaldo Jimenez.

I don’t understand this trade at all. I don’t know what kind of prospects they got in return other than that one of the pitchers they landed is the top pitching prospect in Cleveland’s organization. But he’s only in Double-A right now and probably won’t be ready for another year. Unless they got the Indians top three or four prospects or the Rockies know something about Jimenez and his health that we don’t know, this trade doesn’t make sense to me.

If I’m Tulowitzki and Gonzalez I’d be pretty pissed right now. They both signed long-term deals without testing the free agent market first and I assume they signed early like that because they think the Rockies will be competitive for the next several years at least. But without Jimenez, with de la Rosa not expected to be back for a year and not much else to speak of, pitching-wise, it’s going to take some serious offseason moves to get back into contention next year. One of those moves would have to be to go after a big-time free agent pitcher. Which is stupid because there isn’t going to be anyone available in the offseason of Jimenez’ caliber AND at the relatively low price that Jimenez would have cost them through 2014. I just don’t get this.

The delay on my posts happens out here too. I’ve suspected for a long time now that the mods put all of my posts through extra scrutiny and censorship before they post them.

Okay, now the trade apparently hasn’t gone through after all. The Indians pulled all the players alleged to be involved in it out of the lineups in their respective games. But my first clue that the trade hasn’t happened yet is the fact that Jimenez is currently pitching for the Rockies in their game.

Wow I’m away from the computer for a day, and big things are happening. Seems to be a pretty sure thing that tonight is Jiminez’s last start with the Rockies. Cleveland the most likely place he is going, I read some things saying the Reds and the Red Sox are still making offers, but Cleveland is pulling various prospects from starts. Their top pitching prospects won’t be pitching tonight or tomorrow. Looks like he’s going to Cleveland. I actually have a friend who is a huge Tribe fan, and he hates this deal. Thinks they’re giving up way too much and setting themselves back, doesn’t believe Jiminez has proven beyond doubt that he’s the real deal. Should be interesting.

I was kinda hoping Boston would find a way to get him, just because it’d be that much more fun to watch that team if they added another ace lol.
