They’ve been saying the Royals were going to be good in a few years since Johnny Damon and Carlos Beltran played for them.

I just want to see this Tim Collins guy pitch. He’s tiny for pitching standards @ 5’7

What’s the pitching staff like? Without good pitching, this team is the 1999 Colorado Rockies all over again.
Honestly if the’re in the AL West it’s a potential playoff team… but they might be last in the East.
This is basically repeated a million times a year by the Toronto media about the Jays. Except instead of the AL West in previous years it would be the NL Worst (West).
I’ve got news for you: the NL West is the deepest, best division in baseball. After all, they have the best team in baseball in their division (the defending champion San Francisco Giants) and they barely won the division last year. It’ll be close again this year and I think that any team that can come out of that division is more than capable of going to the Series. SF already showed how overrated the Phillies starting staff is.
yeah, but there are several teams who could come out of the NL West. Who else outside of the Yanks and Red Sox are coming out of the East. That is why it is a tougher division. Two teams greatly over shadow anyone else in that division. Any given year the Giants, the Pads, the dodgers, and so on can lead the division. Sure, there is the occasional Rays team, but other than that, teams in the AL East not in Boston or NY are screwed.
Yes you could argue the NL West is the deepest division in baseball THIS year. But shit in 2005 the Padres won the division with an 82-80 record. That would NEVER happen in the AL East.
That doesn’t always mean the division is terrible. Most of those teams all beat up on each others and their records weren’t scattered far apart. I’m sure in 2006 people said the NL Central was a terrible division since the Cardinals won it with a 83-78 record. But hey, they went on to win the World Series.

I try to get there a couple of times a summer. Watched Verlander rock them last yr. No trip to Camden is complete w/out drinking Natty Bo.

I like Buck a lot. I agree w/DB though, he may wear out his welcome w/the Coughlin rules.
this is the same shit in every sport…when a players coach gets fired the team needs a disciplinarian and vice versa. In this instance however, this organization is a mess and micro manager like showalter fits the bill IMO.

Wow have they collected some has beens…Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon, Mark Prior, Eric Chavez…jeez. They will still be a tough out, still a great lineup, I expect a bounceback year from AJ (it couldnt get worse) and their bullpen is one of the best in baseball.

On paper the redsox are awesome, you just never know how things pan out. Dont sleep on the O’s and Blue Jays, e both will be much improved, and the east could arguably be the toughest division in baseball.

By the trade deadline, the METS and YANKS will swing a deal for Johan Santana!

I love how Tex called you guys underdogs.
Hey Ill take on the underdog role…even though yankees and underdog go together like Peanut butter and Tunafish
That’s the burden of having 27 titles. Must be rough.

Since you guys need pitching, I am willing to sacrifice Blanton and his ridiculous $8 mil contract and take that pesky Swisher off your hands
Ah yes it is really really tough…

Its funny you mention Swish, hes my favorite yankee. He had a shit post season and there were rumors of him getting bounced im happy it didnt happen. Admittedly the yankees are a very bland team, very business like and Swisher is an exciting player so its refreshing.

There is nothing worse than Jeter interview…its bland kinda like the yankees, but hey I suffered with them in the mid to late 80’s through the early 90s in the heart of mets country so they will always be my team, boring and all.

I’ve been to Camden a couple times and love the brick. My father is from Virginia, and is a huge Orioles fan.

I would love to see them turn things around, simply so my dad can have some fresh memories of the O’s, instead of having to think back a couple decades to their past dominance.
dude enough is enough for that city, they can use a baseball team to at least root for. Even though Im a yankee fan I hope they become competitive and think they will. I also love that city and the people there.

Swisher is one of those players I love to hate. He comes across like such a dick, but I know I would be lapping that shit up if he were on my team. Like Victorino. People hate that guy and I would too, but I love having a guy who is going to charge the catcher and wipe out the second baseman.

I think Swisher was a big part to the 09’ team. Broke up the tension on the ball club. Am I misremembering or did he even pitch an inning during the pitching debacle that was C.C. and Wang early that year? He would be an awesome addition to the Phils.

Yes it does. The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays have fielded world series calibre teams the last few years, beat up on each other and yet still all finished with 85+ wins.

Heck in 2008 the 4th place Jays had more wins than the NL West Champ.

EDIT: How often do teams with less than 85 wins win the World Series?

Yes, he did, the odd thing when you compare Shane and Swish is that when they are interviewed they come across as some really cool dudes. If I were GM…the yanks would never let go of Swisher…IMO he is a perfect #2 for the yanks, yes he has power…but he has such patience at the plate and a good on base %.

Being a Sox fan I actually don’t like the Anaheim Angels (big rivalry and I live in Orange County) and support the Dodgers more. I’d like to see them do well. The filthy greasy slimy McCourts need to sell the team so they can start anew.

Couldn’t of said it better myself. It’s gonna be a good year. Just hope the rotation stays healthy. And Papelbon gets back to being himself.

It all comes down to who gets hot in October. It’s a lot easier to get hot when you’ve got 4 ace pitchers, though.

Anyone here jelly of the Phillies pitching staff?

I just can’t wait to see Halladay return to Toronto so I can boo him.

Damn G20 saved him from me hurting his feelings.

Why would you boo him? He got out of the AL east and finally got to go to the postseason.

Yeah - come post-season everyone in Toronto was basically cheering for Roy and the Phillies to win the World Series.

But for me personally, I really don’t want to see him win a World Series with another team. I wish he had signed an extension with the Jays and retired here.

Plus come hall of fame induction time, if he wins a championship with the Phillies it might convince him to wear a Phillies hat into the Hall :frowning:
