MLB Season 2011

How about Dick-k? HAHA He has to be the most bi-polar pitcher in the league.

Edit:Dice-K haha

Am I the only one who’s noticed that Tim Lincecum is consistently cruising with his fastball at 94-96 so far this year? I think over the last year and a half his fastball’s been well below that, like 89-92. I just watched him against the Rockies and he dominated them. Had a no-hitter until 1 out in the 7th and struck out 10 in 7 2/3 innings and he made Tulowitzki look bad twice. It really looks like Lincecum’s infamous weight gain may have actually translated into much better velocity (along with better mechanics).

I think Halladay, Lee and maybe Felix Hernandez belong in the conversation as well, but I think Lincecum’s really looking like the best pitcher in baseball once again. At the rate he’s going he looks like a pretty solid candidate for the Cy Young Award again.

But what got me really thinking was this: as good as the three aforementioned pitchers are, I think I would give the nod to Lincecum using the fact that he’s so electric a presence as the tie-breaker. I love the athletes that have that certain charisma on the field. Tulowitzki seems to be that sort of player to me as well. Jeter kinda had it a little in his hey-day, as did Manny and Griffey had enough for two players. Bonds of course had it, even with the specter of steroids hounding him. I think Matt Kemp has that quality too and it really kills me because if he wasn’t a fucking Dodger I’d probably be a big fan of his. Albert Belle kinda was like that back in the day as well.

So who are some of the players in the game over the years that you guys have watched who had that certain quality, that IT factor that just made them more exciting to watch than some of their contemporaries who may have been just as good? And who would you say is the most “electric” player and/or pitcher in the game today? I’m biased toward Lincecum obviously, but I think for position players I might go with Tulo because of his defense is as wild and crazy to watch as his hitting is.

I agree.

You could have also just written that Tim Lincecum is the best pitcher in baseball right now.

It’s a little too early to be talking Cy Young just yet. I’ll say it’s a good bet that TL will be in the running at the end of the year as he is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but still a little early.

yeah, lets wait a couple months before Cy Young/MVP talk.

Where’s the fun in that? People are already talking about the Red Sox’s missing the playoffs, it’s never to early.

Tulo looks like an MVP right now.

The Freak looks like a Cy Young winner right now.

Barry Zito looks like the luckiest man in the world right now. How he managed to get a Cy Young, a World Series ring, and what was the highest contract for a pitcher at the time is beyond insane to me. He’s a cool person, but as a player? Wow.

Sweet curve ball, though.

No one seriously believes the Red Sox are going to miss the playoffs.

Barry Zito’s Cy Young year was legit. Brian Sabean and the Giants just got Scott Boras’d.

I don’t know what the fuck the Giants were thinking when they signed him. Sure, his Cy Young year was legit, but none after that were, except maybe the year immediately after he won it. For someone who throws as slow as he does, he HAS to have pinpoint control. Yet Zito’s walks and his WHIP went up every year since 2002 for the most part. He isn’t a major league pitcher anymore as far as I’m concerned. When his current contract ends he’ll be lucky to get a minor-league deal and a non-roster invite to Spring Training. He’s fucking done as a pitcher and it makes me want to puke every time I see him. He looks like he doesn’t put any effort into his conditioning and he hasn’t gotten better at anything in years. Fuck him and fuck Sabean for signing him.

Just let it all out and tell us how you really feel.

Seriously though, I wonder how Vogelsong will look as the #5.

LINCECUM IS IMMORTAL. Gigantes are looking good @ Coors.

Don’t forget about when you guys traded what turned out to be Liriano, Joe Nathan and Boof Bonser for AJ Pierzynski. I always think about that whenever the Jays face the Twins.

But you gotta give him credit for not trading Tim Lincecum in 2007 for Alex Rios (When his value was at an all time high)

Damn!

I was so preoccupied with basketball playoffs that I missed Mariano Rivera Blow a save against the Jays!

I don’t blame them that much for that trade. Liriano hasn’t done shit in the bigs aside from, what, like a year and a half of above average pitching, spread out over three or four years? When they got rid of Joe Nathan he definitely did not look like he had the potential to be a closer. He threw hard as a reliever with the Giants and I remember one year he started the season with something like 20 straight appearances without allowing a run, but that was an aberration and he had a tendency to give up the long ball. He also seemed to pitch better as a middle reliever than as a setup man. I was shocked that Nathan literally overnight turned into one of the best closers in the game. I don’t think Bonser’s even in pro ball anymore so getting rid of him wasn’t a big deal.

But I blame them directly for signing Zito. The guy is the biggest piece of shit in the bigs as far as I’m concerned. Anyone who saw him pitch his last couple years in Oakland knew he was washed up. He sits at about 85-86 for the most part and every once in a while he’ll hit 88, but that’s nowhere near as frequent as how often he hits 84, and half the time he has no fucking clue where it’s going. I’m halfway convinced that Sabean pulled Zito aside before his last start and told him he’d better come up lame somehow, some way during the game. The guy fucking blows cock. I saw that show on Showtime about the Giants called “The Franchise” and Zito looks like the biggest fucking douchebag ever in it. He drives around in a $100K Audi with Affliction shirts and the aviator sunglasses and the designer jeans with the “distressed” look and apparently he’s into stuffed animals, which he probably uses to lure fat little Hispanic boys into his Hollywood Hills home on Mulholland Drive and the fucking guy was even on the show saying that hate is a form of frustrated love and that the Giants fans who hate him really love him deep down, which is complete bullshit because if I saw Zito in the street I would rip his left arm off and beat the tar out of that fucking fag with it. I’d go to jail, prison whatever. When the judge asks me what I plead, I’d say “guilty as fuck your Honor! I had the chance to rain blows down upon that fucking left-handed space cadet and I TOOK IT!” I wish the Giants would pay some team in their division to take him onto their staff just so the Giants can get a few extra wins every time they face that piece of trash.

Seriously, if Zito ever makes another start in the bigs after his current contract is up I’ll post a pic of myself with a Zito bobblehead doll shoved firmly up my ass, feet first, just like Zito’s mom shit him out of her asshole.

So… How 'bout dem Dodgers?

Are the Wilpon’s starting to get a little nervous?

For you SF Giant lovers

It’s still too early to tell how the rest of the season is going to go but Man, do i get a raging hard on every time Beckett pitches.

Someone hold me and tell me the Nats will be in the playoffs in the next 5 years

Yeah and Jayson Werth will be the NL MVP for the next 8 years :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, if it makes you feel any better, they are apparently going to expand the playoffs in 2012 by two more teams per league, so their chances are that much better right there. But Strasburg will never quite pan out and although Harper sounds like he’s legit, he won’t be ready to be a serious impact player on a playoff-caliber team until next year at the earliest, assuming that he really is the Real Deal. They could be in the playoffs in a couple years though. It wouldn’t surprise me.

Strasburg will never pan out? Seems a little early to be saying that.
