MLB Season 2011

Who is there to replace him with?

Tim Wakefield?

The worst hitting team put up 16 runs against the Red Sox. Pretty ridiculous.

Lol, I was messing around…and what the fuck is going on with the Sox? I’ve never been sold on Dice-K, but the top of that staff is legit. Beckett had good velocity and movement on his fastball yesterday, and if that’s a sign that he’s fully healthy again he should have a really good year. Lester and Bucholz should be just fine.

I don’t get it though. They’re getting lit up like there’s no tomorrow every day it seems. I’m sure they’ll be just fine and we’ll look up in mid-July and they’ll be in first with a two or three game lead and we’ll have forgotten about this rough stretch. But the longer this shit goes on the more all those Sox fans will continue to act as if the world is ending, which I hope it is for them. But I think they’re just hitting a tough stretch to start off and a month from now they’ll have been playing good ball for a couple of weeks.

An interesting side note for my fellow Philly fans…

I went to watch the AAA Iron Pigs last night and was surprised to see Joe Savery’s name not as a pitcher but as a first baseman who is killing it in Clearwater at the moment. Not that we need another leftie first baseman, but I’m glad to see him doing well. I had such high hopes for him a couple years back…

Oh, and I totally flashed the Iron Pigs’ new manager Ryne Sandberg. OK. I didn’t, but it was pretty cool to be that close to a HOFer.

The AL EAST is going to continue to beat up on each other in divisional games, this is why I predict the wildcard will not come out of the EAST, I still pick the Red Sox to come out on top. The Wild Card, I think, will come out of the AL Central. The Twins and Sox recently have had good records with AL East teams, the Sox just whiped the floor with Tampa Bay, it should have been a sweep as a matter of fact.
I think the Wild card will come out of the West, but simply because the teams in the AL East just aren’t that good this year. Orioles? Yeah, anyone can get hot as shit in April. Talk to me in mid-July. The Yankees? They’re going nowhere with a pitching staff as pathetic as theirs. The Rays? Looks like my prediction that they’d finish below .500 is looking pretty clairvoyant right about now. The Blue Jays? Ha, only if they could play all 162 games at home.

No, I like the A’s for the wild card. The AL Central is pretty well-matched from top to bottom and I think THAT is the division that will beat each other up throughout the year. It’ll come down to the A’s or the Yankees in my opinion. The Yankees pitching staff is a joke and they’re just not that good of a team, but that offense is still stacked as long as A-Rod, Teixiera and Cano stay healthy they might be good enough to take the wild card. With that offense they should be able to beat up on some of the weaker teams in their league (O’s, Jays and Rays). I wouldn’t be surprised to see that they end up with a really good record in their division and somewhere around .500 outside of it. But I think the A’s are the better team top to bottom. Gio Gonzalez and Cahill are shaping up to be legit studs. I worry about their offense, but the Giants proved last year that great pitching can overcome a lot of weaknesses. Great hitting doesn’t have nearly the same effect for whatever reason, so I think the Yankees fall just short this year.

The Rays will struggle until they get Evan Longoria back. They have Dan Johnson a career .239 hitter hitting clean up FFS.

Also before you jump on the Yankees beating up on the Jays, the Jays were 10-8 against the Yanks last year.

I also think Oakland doesn’t have the hitting to support their pitching. Maybe it will turn around but they are in the bottom in all hitting categories in the league.

That was last year, this is this year. And Tampa is last in most offensive categories, or at least they were before yesterday’s BP session against the latest bloated pig from Japan (Irabu anyone?)

Oakland’s pretty bad.

Interesting… Except the White Sox every team that won a World Series in the last 15 years has a player accused of using PED’s

Going to Phillies-Nats tomorrow… I can only hope we have at least 50% of the fans in the stadium. Would be a huge upgrade from Phillies games last year…

Wondering if Phils fans will boo or cheer Werth? I mean he obviously was getting nowhere near that money from Philly so hard to imagine they’d have it out for him.
Mad HORSE wrote:

other Pirates fans?

Funny, every Pittsburgh fan I know will NOT shut up about the Steelers and Penguins… and they add in Pitt as a bball team saying they own ice, grass and hardwood. I have to constantly remind them they have a baseball team.

What’s with the star next to LaRussa’s name? Was he mentioned because he was the one injecting McGwire and Canseco when those roid monkeys stole the World Series from the Giants in '89?

Damnnnnnnn Josh Hamilton just broke his arm.

out 8 weeks
therajraj wrote:

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

His body has been put through so much, it’s inevitable that it’s going to break down time and time again.

I guess he won’t be repeating as MVP.

Phillies fans booed worth? SERIOUSLY? I’m sure a lot of them would turn down a 300% increase in pay to remain in Philly.

I honestly can’t even fathom even the slightest bit why they would dislike Werth for signing here. Philly fans are retarded.

re: Hamilton’s injury - surprised it took him this long, dude is made of glass.

Red Sox 2-9

hahahA!

There were those in the media who took it upon themselves to start a “Werth is a dick who probably would piss on your mother if given the chance” campaign. Anything he said was twisted around and taken out of context as proof that he always hated the city and, more importantly, its fans.

I really wish I could stand up for my fellow Philly fans on this one, but I gotta agree with you here; completely retarded. I don’t understand what would motivate a person to intentionally purchase seats in RF purely to berate Werth, either. I really hope that he is welcomed back to CBP with the cheers he deserves instead of the petty bullshit I saw last night. Disgraceful!

I have no problems with people calling the Yankees starting rotation crap as it is right now, besides from CC its a crap shoot, but their pen is excellent, and may alleviate some of the starting pitching ills to keep them very alive in the AL east race, make no mistake the yankees will add some top flight SP come the trading deadline, they always use their excellent farm system to obtain a VG pitcher from a team that wont be able to afford him.

Jesus Montero will never be a yankee. The Buck Showalter effect is going to make the Os very hard to deal with, his meticulous, micromanaging style usually has a good 2 season run. I still believe the Jays and Os are gonna give the yanks fits…and again is why I wouldnt be surprised if the yanks missed the playoffs, not because they are not that good, but the east teams will beat the crap out of each other so much
MattyXL wrote:

I know the Yankees have a history of trading away their farm team for expensive veteran players but in this instance where Posada is old as fuck, and Russell Martin is not a long term solution, you don’t think the Yanks will keep him?
