Not at all, it’s just that the vomiting incident paired with everything else I’ve read about Philadelphia fans has made me form a very poor opinion of the people in your city.

Sports are one of the best things on the planet, why ruin it by wasting your time and energy harassing others beyond reason?

Nothing against you Lanky.

Phillie fans are huge douches in general. Remember when that Philly fan attacked Tie Domi?

Here’s why analyzing the WS is much harder than the other series. The lack of the DH is a huge problem for the AL teams. It creates so many things to consider.

NL rules for 4 games. Vlad is playing OF for two of those games. That means that his bat is not in the lineup until the 7th inning or later of 2 of them AND his glove is in the game for the other 2 until the 7th inning or so unless theyre losing.

Having his bat out of the lineup for 2 games is a big detriment to that lineup. Cruz moves up to 4. The Giants will pitch around either Hamilton or Cruz every single time theyre due up.

The rangers will not hit the way they did against the yankees in this series. Still a better offensive team by a mile but theres no way to judge how their offense will fair. Giants pitching is 100x better than the yankees and their guys go deep.

The only way the Giants have a chance to win is if their starters dominate. The Giants have a lot less room for error but have a chance to give up less than 10 runs the whole series.
True.

The flip side to this though is that AL has the advantage in their home game, because their roster is built for a DH whereas the NL team usually just throws their best pinch hitter in the DH slot.

NL home games = AL either loses a good hitter or has to play someone who sucks at defense
AL home games = NL DH is generally a much worse hitter than the AL DH.
For sure.

I think an AL team w/NL rules is hurt more than a NL team w/AL rules is benefitted. If that makes sense, which it probably doesnt

And in this case the Giants will have Sandoval as their DH. Not such a horrible fill in. The giants are built like a really shitty AL offense with great pitching lol. I think the Giants have a much better chance of success under AL rules than the Rangers do under NL rules.
Fucking Panda is a perfect DH.
His glove is garbage at least his hitting hasn’t taken as much of a crapout.
You think they’ll DH Panda or Burrell? Both are pretty brutal with the leather.

Uribe is better than Schierholz so Panda’s probably the DH, just a guess.
I think Burrell has been DH before with not such great luck. I really think Panda.

Total sidenote I hope the (Giants) fans aren’t dicks to Bengie.
I think what they’ll do is use Burrell as the DH against lefties with Rowand in center and Torres in either right or left and use Huff as the DH with Ishikawa at first and Burrell in left against righties. They just don’t have any sort of impact bat to bring off the bench and use as DH so I think they’re better off using the DH as an opportunity to get a better defensive player on the field.

Sandoval plays third with a righthander on the mound with Uribe at short and Renteria at short and Uribe at third against lefties.

And I’m sure the fans will give Bengie a nice ovation his first at-bat and then boo him the same as every other player after that. If he gets a big hit or knocks one out, they’ll tear into him though.
If they play Torres I doubt it’ll be against lefties.

By the way, I really want to party with Brian Wilson.
I think Torres will start every game of the series, unless he stops hitting entirely again. But he had multiple hits in both games 5 and 6 so he could be getting his stroke back, although most of those hits I believe were from the left side, if not all of them.

But he’s too important to the Giants’ success on offense to not give him every opportunity to play against both righties and lefties, especially when one of those lefties is Cliff Lee. He’s a legit basestealer, the only one the Giants really have, and with poor-throwing catchers like Treanor and especially Molina, the Giants HAVE to exploit that weakness at every opportunity if they want to hang with Texas’ offense. Plus, just the threat of a steal can alter the inning in the offense’s favor, and I think the Giants are hoping that Torres is finding his stroke from the left side and that this will carry over to the right side of the plate for him. In a way, as he goes, the Giants offense goes.

Freddy Sanchez looks like he’s finding his stroke again too, and if that’s the case then it’s imperative that they get someone on base in front of him because they can’t afford to have the hitters directly in front of a hot hitter struggle to get on base. In the leadoff spot, Torres is the best option they have against righties or lefties.

I picked the Phillies because of the names on that team, but neglected the fact most of their position players were having below average years statistically (something I missed since I’m not a follower of NL baseball).

The Rangers on the other hand aren’t in that same boat. Most of their lineup has had good to great years and their pitching is pretty good. I would consider CJ Wilson one of the top 3 lefty SPs in the AL.

Giants best hitter: 23 year old rookie

Rangers best hitter : AL MVP 2010
Well, first off I would say that there are a lot of lefty starters in the AL that I’d take over CJ Wilson in a playoff game. Sabathia, Lee, Buerhle, Lester, Price, Liriano and Pettitte to name a few.

But beyond that, I don’t think that CJ Wilson is better than any of the Giants starters except for maybe Bumgarner. I know Sanchez had a meltdown, but his track record still suggests that he’s much more likely to go out and dominate a lineup than Wilson is.

I like the Giants chances, although I think the Series may prove to be a very even match. But here’s why I like the Giants to win it all:

Even though Cliff Lee is capable of outpitching Lincecum, the Giants have already proven they can put runs on the board against another supposedly unbeatable pitcher in Halladay. Plus, the Giants have a lot of hitters who like to get up there and hack (Renteria, Ross, Sandoval, Uribe, Torres). With Lee pounding the strike zone, a team like the Yankees that likes to work the count are going to find themselves behind the count a lot. The Giants won’t give Lee the opportunity to get ahead like that because they’ll be hacking at anything close. So they might end up scoring a few runs off of Lee, or else he’ll throw a complete game shutout on something like 90 pitches.

As far as pitching matchups go, I think every one that doesn’t feature Lee will be to the Giants’ advantage.

The Rangers have a lot of hitters who swing away like the Giants do, but when facing a pitching staff that led the Majors in strikeouts and opponents avg against (and who aren’t always around the plate) this could very well work against the Rangers. All of the Giants’ starters are very adept at pitching with runners on base. I think Cain, Lincecum and Sanchez were all in the top 20 in the league in opp avg w/ risp and I’m pretty sure Cain was 1st or 2nd. So I think that when the Rangers do get on base, the Giants starters can use their free-swinging approach against them and rack up a lot of K’s. I also think that runners could end up at a premium for the Rangers because they’ll be facing a staff that can use their offensive approach against them and also because I don’t think many of the Rangers have any experience against any of the Giants starters.

I don’t think the value of playing in so many close games can be understated, and the Giants have played in a ton of them. They won 28 games by 1 run and it seems like they’ve all been played in the last two months. 7 of the 10 they’ve played in the postseason have been 1-run games and I think all but one of their wins was a 1-run game. Conversely, the Rangers haven’t played in many close games down the stretch or in the postseason and their bullpen hasn’t pitched in anywhere near as many close games as the Giants bullpen has. And Brian Wilson or Neftali Perez? I’ll take Wilson and his multi-inning saves any day.

The Rangers are a very good team with more talent than the Giants at every position but pitcher and catcher and maybe one or two other positions, but none of that talent has been forced to execute with the game on the line at nearly the same frequency that the Giants have. Regardless of who is pitching, I expect all of these games to remain close and I expect the Giants to execute better than the Rangers in these situations. But this is going to be one hell of a Series no matter who wins.

I would take CJ Wilson behind Sabathia and Lee with respect to a full season. Pfft, Halladay gave away game 1 when he decided to not learn from his previous mistakes and throw more pitches inside to Cody Ross. Halladay pitched most of his next start injured, doesn’t count.

I agree with you over the closer situation, I think Neftali Feliz is the biggest question mark going into the World Series for the Rangers.

I’m not talking about the media, I’m talking about other sports fans from all over the country that have traveled to Philly for games. Obviously it was a broad generalization and wasn’t a personal attack on any of you individually.

~

Lincecum has been confirmed as the game 1 starter. I hope our bats can get to Lee early, because if he gets to the 6th or 7th untouched he basically just goes into complete game mode and enters a whole other dimension.

Posey will seduce Lee with his boyish charm, and then go oppo and plant one in the left field bleachers.

I have a friend who’s a philly fan, we went to Dewey Beach a summer or two ago. We were walking back from the beach, and he tripped and fell. Some other group of guys saw and laughed. My friend goes “HOW BOUT YOU GO F*** YOURSELF HOW BOUT THAT?”

The other dude said “let me guess, you’re an eagles fan”

Funniest moment of my life

I think when all is said and done, the Series may very well hinge on one matchup: Javier Lopez vs Josh Hamilton. If Lopez gets Hamilton out every time he faces him, then the Giants will win the Series. He’ll probably face Hamilton 5 or 6 times. If Hamilton gets an RBI in any of those at-bats, given that the games will undoubtedly be close if Lopez is coming in, I think the Rangers will win. In fact, I think the Giants will win every game that Lopez retires Hamilton and vice versa.

Lincecum vs. Lee tonight, get your popcorn.

Supposed to leave the office early but now unsure if it will happen.
BAH.

Dear Philly fans, please refrain from trolling this thread now that your team has been eliminated.

Thank you kindly.
