Ryan Howard gets struck out looking in big spots like it’s his job. He finally got his big contract and then decides to have his worst year (statistically) and continually fail to drive home runs when it matters.
At first when the whole Utley vs Sanchez thing was going on I thought it was awesome that Utley threw the ball back to him. Then I was sad when Sanchez got taken out of the game because the Phils were seriously about to rock him. Taking him out was the move of the year by Bocci.
Fuck haters. Fuck people complaining about ratings. Fuck people whining that the NL is weak. GO GIANTS.
Seriously. I’m hearing people discredit the Giants by saying, “oh well, this World Series will have low ratings” as if the number of people watching determines the worth of their accomplishment. Fuck y’all. They beat the two-time defending NL champs for god’s sake!
I dont think people are saying that lol.
I’m not going to watch the WS simply because I have more important things to do.
People discrediting the Giants’s accomplisments are giving opinions. The WS having a low tv rating is a fact.

Great observation. I’m also glad he didn’t leave Lincecum in any longer in the 8th. I hate when managers bring starters in for late inning situations in the playoffs. Your throwing a player into a spot that is completely foreign to them and it never seems to work.

Definitely, game 3 and 4 fall on the weekend of Hallowe’en. Best parties of the year.

I think Sanchez was coming out anyway. He was done. That ridiculous behavior with Utley I think was almost coincidental. He was coming out. Bochy tends to be fast with the hook. I said it upthread also but I think they put Lincecum in too fast. There was no need to pull Lopez he pitched a GREAT inning and had a few more outs in him. Maybe not even put Lincecum in at all maybe Lopez to Wilson. Well whatever it worked though!
Oh, and Affeldt… what a show. THAT was a real “save”

He was not making it out of hte 3rd inning no matter what, but he would have faced a couple more batters and the Phillies would have scored a couple more runs had he not started shit with Utley.

Historically Sanchez has had games where he started off nuts and then settled in for solid innings. Obviously we couldn’t afford that here but you may be right he might’ve gone one more batter maybe two. Thank god for young men and their silly tempers then. He was so fucked off.
The lack of legitimate wood in the Giants lineup will come back to bite them. Aubrey Huff had a great year but A) they have no one else besides Posey and B) he’s still Aubrey Huff.

That’s what all the haters said about the match up with Philly. Can’t you come up with something original?

EXACTLY. That’s what they said about Philly which really WAS a matchup of great pitchers. Halladay and Oswalt are legendary status talent/skill. Rangers have nothing close to that. Great Pitchers beat Great batters. The fact that scj119 doesn’t even mention Ross makes me wonder if he’s even watched the Giants play in post-season.
And yes WC those tickets are beautiful. I’m pretty sure I’ll be listening to game one from my office trying to close a deal. I find it very difficult to pay attention to making money when these games are on.
Here’s why analyzing the WS is much harder than the other series. The lack of the DH is a huge problem for the AL teams. It creates so many things to consider.
NL rules for 4 games. Vlad is playing OF for two of those games. That means that his bat is not in the lineup until the 7th inning or later of 2 of them AND his glove is in the game for the other 2 until the 7th inning or so unless theyre losing.
Having his bat out of the lineup for 2 games is a big detriment to that lineup. Cruz moves up to 4. The Giants will pitch around either Hamilton or Cruz every single time theyre due up.
The rangers will not hit the way they did against the yankees in this series. Still a better offensive team by a mile but theres no way to judge how their offense will fair. Giants pitching is 100x better than the yankees and their guys go deep.
The only way the Giants have a chance to win is if their starters dominate. The Giants have a lot less room for error but have a chance to give up less than 10 runs the whole series.

SAMPLE SIZE.
Hitting well for 5 or 6 games means relatively nothing in baseball. Hell even the Royals probably had several times this year when they hit well for six games.
The fact the Giants hit well enough to beat Philly does not make them likely to do repeat the accomplishment. Cody Ross has hit .265 in over 2,000 major league at-bats. I’m sure there are dozens of six-game stretches in there where he hit as well as he hit against Philly. It is part of baseball. Are you going to assume his skill level is equal to the 2,000 at-bats in his career or the 20 against Philly? I know where I’d place my bet.
And…really? The Rangers have “nothing close” to Oswalt or Halladay? You know they have Cliff Lee right? The guy with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of over 10 this year and ERA well under 2.50?
I do like the giants and all their young players. I just don’t think they’ll win the series. It’s baseball though and anything can happen.

True.
The flip side to this though is that AL has the advantage in their home game, because their roster is built for a DH whereas the NL team usually just throws their best pinch hitter in the DH slot.
NL home games = AL either loses a good hitter or has to play someone who sucks at defense
AL home games = NL DH is generally a much worse hitter than the AL DH.
I’m trying something fancy with the quotes here hope this works…
Damn that quote thing didn’t work lemme try to clean it up.

Regarding Ross - Its not a six game stretch. Its the entire post-season. Thats thirteen games he’s played post season with six home runs so far. He’s hot right now. He’s on a hitting streak against two separate teams now and many different pitchers. I tend to say his career average matters much less than that fact.
Regarding the hitting - Again I’m going to say that I believe the Giant’s superior pitching counts for alot more than the Rangers superior hitting. I am not saying the Giant’s are better hitters than the Rangers. I would not say the Giants are better hitters than the Braves or the Phillies either. I’m saying they don’t need to be better hitters to win the series.

I’m not going to argue with you about Cliff Lee. I like Cliff Lee. I also like the Ranger’s Manager Ron Washington. Bay area baseball fans all have a soft spot for Washington. The A’s really fucked up letting him go.
So I’m going to retract that “nothing close” statement. You’re right my bad. Cliff Lee is a great pitcher. I assume he’ll start two games which is also good for the Rangers. What I was/am trying to convey is that having gotten through the Phillies pitchers we will also get through The Rangers.
I’m excited about this match-up. REALLY excited. Both teams are great teams and both teams are underdogs.
