Their lineup is too stacked for people to complain about a career 260 hitter not producing a few runs in an elimination game. I think the loss falls squarely on the shoulders of Howard and the entire pitching staff. Except for Lee of course and I guess Madson, who got a few big outs.
I can easily see Lee winning 21+ games next year if they get Lidge straight.
The Yankees needed this WS bad. The team is getting old and I feel like it will be a few more years before they have the chance to win again.
Can’t say this was a bad season for the Phillies. They defended their title well, hitting a couple of bumps in the road, but, for the most part they controlled the division and essentially had it locked up in August. They turned in two strong playoff performances and lost to a clearly superior team in 6 games. No shame in that game.
Phillies have basically everybody back next year, so they will have one more good chance to make a run at things before they have some contract/age issues to deal with.
