It’s impossible to live without a God. Impossible. That’s why Atheism really doesn’t exist.
[/quote]

I don’t understand this…why isn’t this the same as saying, “It’s impossible to live without Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. Impossible. If Santa and Peter Cottontail are not at the center of your life then you will invariably deliver presents and candy yourself. Think about it. That’s why Asanta and Aeasterbunny really don’t exist”?[/quote]

Your comparing the stuff of fantasy to that which created the universe? One is not like the other…[/quote]

In defense of sen say, the Biblical God could be just as much a fantasy as those fantasy creatures suggested above. There were claims that Santa Clause did exist (but nothing like the current version).

I’m interested in the answer to this as well. I’ve been studying the Bible more and more these days and find many passages to be very evil. Some of these are from the New Testament as well.

I think the big issue is that most people don’t actually read the Bible and get their information from church sources.[/quote]

I would like to comend you on reading the Bible. I have personally read the Bible straight through only once. I am almost done with the 2nd time through.
[/quote]

Thanks, dm. I think it’s an interesting read and want to learn more about this belief system. But I’ve found it’s not something I could personally follow for personal moral reasons.

I don’t believe God created the universe…there’s no proof He exists…it’s an extreme example, sure…but…I think it’s a valid question…insane…but valid…

What would you do if The Church came out with a ‘found’ book of the Bible that talked about Santa Clause and The Easter Bunny wouldn’t you have to accept it as God’s Holy Word?

Well the Bible already talks about Lion headed creatures in heaven and people living in a whale. I don’t think it would be that big of a leap to have a guy in a white beard delivering goods to others…

Don’t muck up the conversation with bullshit. What created the universe(s) then? Where did existence come from?

He doesn’t know that answer and you don’t know it was your Biblical God.

Even if you apply the kalam cosmological argument, unless you CANNOT replace God with Mystical Creation Fairies, you’re no further to the truth.

Yes, I think I do. You see, I’m actually studying the Bible now unlike you

  1. Creatures in Heaven
And before the throne [there was] a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, [were] four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast [was] like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast [was] like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. (Rev. 4:6-8)
(The Four Living Creatures - Revelation 4:6-8)

Honestly…I’m not trying to muck up the conversation…I know you guys take this seriously and I don’t want to be rude. I just find it mind-boggling that people honestly believe a man in the sky created the world in seven days.

I find this interesting because there are so many other Creation myths that tell the same story, but no one really believes anymore.

I find this interesting because the Creation myth is in the Old Testament, but there are so many Christians that believe ‘We don’t have to live by the Old Testament anymore’…but they still believe in the Creation Myth.

I find this interesting because it’s so self-centered to believe that an all-powerful, all-knowing being would spend his time creating imperfections only to punish them and then sacrifice his son so that they could be forgiven of these sins that He made them incapable of not committing.

I find the idea that God would need to create Adam out of clay (I think I have the right thing here) and then would need to take a rib out of Adam to create Eve. Why couldn’t he just make them out of thin air?

Also…now that I think about it…why’d it take God 7 days to creat the Universe. If he’s all-powerful, why couldn’t he create it in 1 day? 1 hour? 1 second?

Also…if he’s all powerful…why did he need to rest on the 8th day?

These are all honest questions.

If God did take the rib out of Adam, why are we not missing the rib now a days?

If the Biblical stories are true, this has to be true as well.

The Kalam cosmological is the worst form ever, yet it’s the one people always refer to for some reason. The cosmological form is applicable though. No you cannot replace an uncaused-cause, prime mover with “Mystical Creation Fairies”. That would be logically incorrect.

I’m not saying replace the prime mover. I’m saying it’s impossible to prove that it was indeed the holy Biblical God instead of the Mystical Creation Fairies in these types of arguments.

I don’t believe in a “man in the sky”, nor do I think creation took 7 days. You are applying self created stereo types.

Uh, what? It’s an extremely limited view, wouldn’t you say?

The creation story is allegorical. If you understood the audience it was written for and the time it was written, it makes a whole lot more sense. Trying to express the space-time continuum, singularities, the higgs-boson particles would more than likely leave a bunch of uneducated sheep herders wildly confused and likely uninterested. There are important lessons with in the creation story that are far more important than particulars of creation. We are talking about a book written 7000 years ago. No society had terribly advanced science at that time.

What important lessons did we learn from the creation story?

I have a question for the agnostics or theists.

Why do some of you refer to God as the sky wizard, the man upstairs, or any other creative name you can come up with? I like the name Sky Wizard though. IMO he is not in outerspace or in the Sky, he is in my heart. He can also be in yours all you have to do is ask him.

The reason they probably say Sky Wizard is because it’s mocking. But in all truthfulness, the name doesn’t matter as much as the idea.
