Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who Is the Fairtex of Them All?

Today I cancelled a dance event because I got a lousy sleep last night. The warmer it gets outside the more the cooling controlled by the landlord family upstairs gets increased. thus I had this lousy sleep. I can only hope the event organizer will refund my ticket cost just a few hours before it starts. With luck they will sell one more at the gate ticket.

So, I took a preworkout and the other supplements I add to it and decided to belt into a training session. @idaho, I think would agree that training shouldn’t just be done when a person feels optimal, it should include times a person wants to crawl back into bed.

On this occasion I included the two videos of warmup shadow boxing. I really know I should do this every day, and wonder how off balance anyone thinks I am. then I belted into the bag and recorded those first two rounds.

Later in the session I started getting into bad habits caused by fatigue and wonder when I will get myself a decent setup to improve cardio. My current place I live in doesn’t have any reasonable options for training outside striking and then weighted carries with the bag. Carries I might do tomorrow.

This is starting to become my favorite log

Let me guess: you get a good laugh? Hahaha, I know my technique is likely in Kindergarten. A while back a co worker gave me the numbers of two different local fight gyms. Her son trains at one of them. Another is run by a former professional fighter.

Since I onboarded from temporary worker to the company payroll, I don’t forecast a significant time period to really make us of it. Such is life.

Discipline is always the key to training, without it we never would get anything done. Train when you can, not when you just feel good. Stay strong, brother.

I could criticize your form, speed, footwork, ect, but you know what…

at least you’re doing something. That’s more than most can say.

I would say that you need to go to a gym and train with a coach to fix the issues with your fundamentals. Until you do that you should consider this “Percussive Cardio” rather than actual combat/martial arts training. Anyone with basic combative training (BJJ/MT/Boxing) would make a mess of you.

BUT, congrats on actually doing something, breaking a sweat, and posting your logs and videos where anyone can see it

I noticed from my last videos that I trained myself to use to short a range of motion with my strikes.

I am at times training with a sub par energy level. During my work week I often don’t get an optimal sleep, and this past weekend didn’t allow a good makeup.

So, I have a journal and I figure I had better post something. I had an absolutely DEAD energy level all last week, and not always sleeping well. Even my work performance was a bit off (I had better be careful, I am on 6 months probation with this job). I once tried to start a session but I was so dead that I could barely shuffle my feet and quickly cancelled it.

I last night had a long sleep and was originally going to go out early this morning but thought to try and get a session in. It was about the same as usual according to videos today and before, so there is nothing like that to post.

Quick observation has me mention that at times I am again not fully extending for shots. I thought I would have that worked out and I am still to square with the theoretical target.

Other than that I am having a holiday long weekend and otherwise relaxing.

I started this journal, and it just occurred to me to keep it up.

The thing is, I don’t have new videos worth sharing so I haven’t been thinking of posting.

I still stay active, just today I did weighted carries with my banana bag, 14 sets, 7 each side. I then took advantage of a sunny day and walked extensively.

I am I think best to wait until I look at least a little better before I post any striking videos, who knows when that will be.

Other than that I put out a lot of energy at work and don’t think I am realistically getting into a gym outside my apartment until I can’t predict when. I have the money, just not the time. I am not going to a facility that includes a lot of travel time (I take the bus) and then make it into work without feeling like I am rushing myself like a frantic pig. Work is enough by itself.

It so happens that after the longest delay I today had a first one on one session with a new kick boxing coach. I had got his number from a co worker and decided to ask work to allow me a reduced schedule for 2 weeks, partly to have a stay cation and partly to sleep early enough for a morning stint of lessons. Afterwards I expect to continue on my own at home with some improvement in technique.

This morning I first met him, and not surprisingly he went straight to basics. Stance, shuffling in stance, different kinds of jabs, cross jabs (I had been told by a coach that they are called straights, I don’t know what else to say. Later in the lesson I hit focus pads while shuffling around and avoiding him dinging me.

He also went through round house and front kicks, and I was surprised how poorly I initially did them.

After the hour I paid and he said that during week day mornings he isn’t available, but that he could get me in contact with another coach who might continue teaching me while I have my 2 week window to intensively deal with it.

As to home work, I am to practice form in front of a mirror and shuffle around. Not surprisingly, bag work will be limited at this stage. I will use the bag more for weighted carries over the next while until I start hitting it more.

Videos I might make initially for my own purposes, I don’t know when I will post more here.

I have not been completely inactive since last post, just bogged down with tiredness from work and only sporadically training. My doctor told me i have a little bit of fatty intrusion in my liver and to adjust diet accordingly. I have been gobbling ice cream and sometimes beef steak a lot over the last number of months and I guess a slow down in exercise allows it to take a toll. I still want to eat, I will focus on getting back to my regular execise level.

that said, so far this Canadian Thanksgiving holiday weekend I have slumbered. I just want to. I really, really want to. I also feel thrifty because I patched my air mattress and will soon deposit the refund cheque for it when the exchange rate is more favourable. When asking myself, “Am i happy?”, I finally am saying yes. Still, application to exercise and striking technique is looming near.

This past week I made a return to weighted carries. One benefit of this is that the lift involves one hand gripping the bottom end of the banana bag to get it to my shoulder, and I figure this must be great for my grip. This is important. I have done some basic jab, cross, lead hook, with the occasional low jab. Still, I am mostly focusing on head level striking.

As to videos: I predict that after tonight’s sleep I will feel sufficiently rejuvenated to do an honest to goodness series of videos of the technique I have been taught.

I don’t know if I mentioned it above but after Labour Day (the same as stateside) I negotiated with work to let me finish 90 minutes early for the two weeks after so that I can sleep earlier and generally have more energy to have one on one kickboxing lessons. The difference from posts above is that it is the coaches business partner, a woman, who on three occasions during this time met with me in my local park. I think I looked odd walking down the street with shinguards on to get there, one person actually looked at me and spit on the ground.

She is awaiting my notification that I have posted some video evidence of my training, she just doesn’t want to sign up to post herself.

She had me run around the area of the park to warm up, stretching, and generally had me going at focus pads most of the time. Moving around, she would call the strikes and it was remarkable how often I did the wrong thing. Trying to breathe and think at the same time.

One main criticism was jumping into combinations, and acting like I want to put too much into the crossjabs. She was looking for a fast pop, I seemed to be kind of winding up for it which she said ruins effect. My round house kicks she believes have potential, and she said I could be tough as she said it, although I thought that was more of a state of mind. Also i tend to in mid combination try to reset my stance, I take it this is a waste of time and of opportunity to catch the opponent.

Later in the last lesson she put on her own gloves and we quasi sparred. She is a woman of about 140lbs and I was getting beaten by a girl. Yes, you read it.

She mentioned that she thinks the quality of boxing in Canada is quite good (she was a kick boxing champion in Europe) but that of kickboxing is terrible.

Tomorrow I will see if I can post some technique quality videos. just shadow work, I will not so soon go at the bag and just use it afterwards for just exercise as weighted carries.

these are this morning’s attempts. I will notify the coach so as to have her view them. I already think it is the same old nonsense, but we will see. Anybody else can put in a word too, I did post on an open forum.

Edit: I still seem to be a bit short of the full range of motion. When I was reaching for focus pads this wasn’t a problem.

I have been on hiatus for about a year now. There is no particular reason, I just broke with routine and thought about other things.

August of 2023 I organized a 2 week ‘staycation’ with work, in which I worked fewer afternoon shift hours and had time to participate in a weekday evening kickboxing class.

I bought a half month membership, it was quite affordable, and went to it several times over the course of the arrangement.

I actually on 3 of the days I went did some light sparring, and I was clearly out of my element. this you might expect. Also, the head coach was mentioning that I tend to jump forward into jabs. This might be the result of when training at home I was using a pair of weightlifting shoes that have enough grip that I don’t shuffle properly.

Sunday and Monday these past few days I met with a coworker who says he won several medals in amateur boxing in the Indian state he is from. I was initially expecting that we would meet with the full range of protective equipment and he would maintain his skills as I develop mine. Strangely, he arrived with just water and used his hands as focus pads and coached me. on Monday I paid him a few dollars, and made videos for review purposes. He might also use the videos to credential himself for future coaching work.

I know I have drivelled on with videos in the past that are about as interesting as a church sermon, but this is I think the first time i have posted pad work with an actualy coach.

I actually made more videos, I just found uploading from my cellphone took so long I am not doing any more.

Here is hopefully some improvement. My coach says that there are some positives here.

I made 2 videos of today’s training, I haven’t uploaded them yet.
