Keep in mind that they do have a slight laxative effect, so limit your consumption of whole seeds to 1-2 TBS per day as already mentioned.

Both Aztecs and Mayans actually (I had to go check to verify this. I hadn’t known that the Aztecs did as well.)

Yes, then you are correct, that Chia was once a staple food for the Mayans. That makes total sense, due to the relative proximity of their civilizations. But Aztecs did first “cultivate” the seed.
