I’m pretty sure I’m lactose intolerant. I get bloated whenever I drink milk, tend to feel dehydrated and it doesn’t really sit well with me. This is really annoying, because I don’t like facing morning food and normally get my liquid calories in.
I’m trying to create a good calorie bulking shake to mimic the macros and get in some good calories.
So far I’ve got:
-ground oats
-coconut oil
-whey
I need some more ingredients to bulk this out, can anyone give me some assistance?
Heavy cream
I’m taking it I won’t run into the problem that I ran into with milk if I use cream?
im a fan of almond milk
Raw milk. Most people with dairy allergies, myself included have no problems with raw grass fed dairy products.
Magic, I desperately want to try raw milk but I have no idea where to get it from. Everyone who I have inquired state who dangerous unpasteurised milk is and that’s why it’s so hard to get hold of. Otherwise I would definitely me on the raw milk.

Are you lactose intolerant? I might have to look into this as a substitute.
How does it compare to normal milk?
I’m cautious that it might have associated problems such as raising oestrogen (like the notorious soy?)
Get back to me if you can, thanks.

I use a co-op in Pa. Pastureraised.net is the website. Grass fed meats, dairy, from Amish farms. Don’t believe the propaganda about raw dairy being dangerous. More people get food poison from commercial milk than raw.

+1. Shit is delicious
Have you tried Kefir? It’s made of milk but has a probiotic bacteria that eats all the lactose away so it’s 99% lactose free. I’m also lactose intolerant so I’m trying it now. So far so good.

I am lactose intollerant, and I love almond milk. I haven’t ever heard of it increasing estrogen levels. Have you tried milk with lactaid?
I suggest almond or the Pastureraised.net that was suggested.
I use silk almond milk as I prefer its thicker texture compared to most. It does not raise estrogen levels, it from the milk of almonds, not soy.
Another vote for almond milk.
I think it’s the best, direct replacement for milk out there. Kefir is good, but I wouldn’t pour it over cereal or use it to chase Oreos.
Almond Milk is very good, recently tried Buffalo Milk and it is simply the best Milk I’ve ever tried, much better for you than regular pasteurised cows milk,

Thanks Gerrard!
I’lld love to try that buffalo milk! Alas £10 delivery makes it somewhat counter-intuitive…
Considering your shake, OP, kefir.
You could throw in a couple bananas.
If you want a tasty milk substitute with a bit more carbs than almond milk, rice milk is good.

I have no experience with raw, and feel it is better just from using logic. That said, it’s not quite fair to say “more people get sick from regular than raw”. While that may be true, the # of people that use regular greatly outweighs raw
Almond milk is a good substitute for regular milk as far as taste goes… don’t think it would be that great for bulking though. Not really dense enough in cals to merit the addition to a bulking shake, IMHO. Heavy cream or something higher in fat would work better on that front. I’m lactose intolerant as well, and tend to do alright with milk products that are mainly fat and few carbs.
EDIT:
If you don’t like the heavy cream idea, bananas and natty nut butters might be some decent additions for you. Also, look into whey protein isolate (rather than concentrate) or try to find a brand of whey protein that includes lactase if your shake is still giving you problems.
Rice/almond milk don’t have much protein at all and apparently I can’t get raw milk in ‘Berkshire, Reading, UK’.
After a lot of research I was able to find milk that isn’t raw, but it is unhomogenised. I’m quite ignorant here and I have no ideas of the differences between homogenisation and pasteurisation. Does anyone know which process is most likely to cause intolerance?
Am I likely to be more tolerant to UNHOMOGENISED but PASTEURISED milk? Can anyone briefly outline the difference in standard shop bought homogenised/pasteurised milk, raw milk and milk that is pasteurised but unhomogenised?
I really need to find an answer to this because the unhomogenised milk is expensive, but if it means actually utilising the nutrients of milk then I’m willing to spend the extra.
Anyone? I’m desperate
