Mighty's Contest Updates & Q&A Thread

Looking real awesome Stu!

You look great!

Personally I liked the most muscular with the back double bi coming in a close .

What did you say too the guy who walked in front of you while posing?

Also, don’t forget to smile, you’re a pro bodybuilder, should always be smiling :).

Looking great, Stu!! Keep killing it!

Thanks Guys, hope to make everyone proud with this show. I figure my little online family here has watched me come up from a first time competitor 4 years ago, nab two pro cards, appear in a few magazines, and now I’m hoping to show that I belong onstage with the top WNBF Natural Pros.

If anyone recalls, last Spring an online magazine MuscleAndStrength that had interviewed me, and had created an athlete’s profile of me on their site, sent their content editor to film me during my 2011 Prep. Well, they’ve finally put together a 3 part video series, and just put up Part I yesterday (already 700 views as I’m typing this!)

I certainly don’t want to appear disrespectful of Tim and Biotest for all the love they’ve shown me over the years (I made sure to wear my old Black n Yellow ‘Testosterone’ T-shirt for the filming!), so I won’t post the link up, but if anyone gets a chance to check it out (I figure there’s enough online content about me for you cyber pros to figure the details), feel free to lemme know what you think!

Very cool, awaiting part 2 and 3. Like Bambi said (haha only on an internet forum) delts and tris look freakin awesome.

Awaiting part 2 of the vid series…and you are looking VERY conditioned right now man!

Stu,
Funny you mention the video, I had just found the video (maybe hours) before you posted that and I threw up the link but T-Nation apparently took it down. Whoops.

I can’t watch the video at work, but I plan to at home sometime.

Looks like the video was removed from youtube?

@Way- It’s not a youtbe video, it’s on another site that usually features natty competitors.

Little update- Tonight I dropped a 45 lb plate on my toe, and while it hurt like hell and definitely screwed me up a bit for the evening, I toughed it out, and as of yet haven’t had a look to see just how bad it is -lol. I figure that even if it is broken, there’s not much I can do about it. 19 days out, I’ll do my treadmill cardio with a limp if I have to.

The other day was a leg session, and as during previous preps, as I get stupidly low in bodyfat, my lower back just feels ‘off’ (old injury). As such I placed my front squats last, after extensions and walking DB lunges. All I can say is Damn That Hurt the next day! I’ve done pre-exhaust before, but never two movements that really let me isolate the quads before squats. Yes, I know lunges aren’t an isolation exercise, but I liked to perform mine like a single leg squat, so it really does allow me to focus moreso than a typical lunge or squat.

Definitely going to keep this approach even when I’m offseason, hopefully will let me continue to improve.

other than that plate mishap sounds like things are plugging along.

Another training question. You haev moved to more volume (sets) not to failure than previously going heavier/to failure or closer…How much extra volume have you noticed that you have been able to add using this approach?

Appreciate the time you put into this log. Its a gold mine

beautiful video, some very smart tips, waiting for part 2 and 3

Nice video. It’s up on Youtube, so can I post it?

Looking awesome, Stu!

Your back is awesome - I think one of your more ‘under rated’ body parts!

If it’s up on youtube, I guess the Mods shouldn’t mind too much (linking to a competing site though, I understand being frowned upon). I guess if it’s not cool we’ll find out

(Thanks for asking though)

Lmao whoops! I copied the link from my favorites, obviously it didn’t work right lmao.

Does this work :

That was an awesome video. I can’t wait for part 2 and 3.

You gave some really good tips and I didn’t realize you were so charismatic! lol

So the last week or so, I’ve brought my carb #s down a bit. As I know I’ll need some seriously thin skin this outing, and not being naturally lean like some folks may be, I’ve replaced a good number of my former carb cals with fat cals.

The only feeding each day with a conscious carb component is pre-workout (Can’t lose my Finibars! I’d sooner lose my mind).

Additionally, due to my inability to deal with being excessively hungry, I’ve upped my steady state cardio work to accommodate my ‘higher than most people would be at this point’ cals for each day.

I know both of these changes may shock people who know me as a guy who keeps his carbs fairly high when dieting, and does just enough cardio to get by, but I gotta play the cards I’ve been dealt, and if that means risking losing a lb or two of size (which I doubt will happen, but people tend to obsess) in order to come in tighter in a class where I’ll be outsized anyway, then that’s what I’ll do.

Hoping I’m making the right call is all anyone can do going into a contest. You never know who else will show up, and in this case, I don’t even know for certain which weight class I’ll end up in! Just trying to focus on being better than I was in 2011.
