Personally I loathe the old school metal. I do listen to a lot of new metal. System of a Down, Disturbed, Deftones, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and others that have been mentioned are all excellent.
If you haven’t yet, check out Chevelle. They’re one of the most under rated bands of the past year.
Lots of good bands there. I’ll add a few…ill nino, american head charge, dry kill logic. I saw someone list skinlab up there…thats cool I dig them too. For you slipknot fans, there back in the studio recording their 3rd. Yeah!
Lamb of God kicks ass man. For like a whole school year I listened to their “New American Gospel” album while lifting for every single workout.
Check out God Forbid. The odd thing about them is that out of the 5 guys in the band 4 of them are black. So you’d obviously expect to have some sort of hip-hop influence…not a chance. Metal to the max. Check em out.
Extol is really good. Metal from Sweden. “Daa, vee are from Svveeeden.”
Check out the Relapse Records website. With bands such as “Pig Destroyer” you’ll be sure to have your death metal needs satisfied for a long-ass time. You’ll also probably have nightmares, but that just means that the bands you’re listening to are really good and that you should just listen to them more til the nightmares go away. Seriously though, Relapse Records has a lot of fucked up bands on their label.
I’m also proud to say that Cradle of Filth hails from my hometown, Buffalo, NY. Thank you very much. I’d like to thank my mom and dad, as well as the neighbors for not napalming my house when I play my metal through 4 - 200 watt/channel speakers and amp.
Excellent metal comes from the past or am I just getting old.
Iron Maiden, early metallica, judas priest, megadeth (early) heavier rock in the form of early AC/DC,
heavier stuff, the first heavier band I listed to was Slayer ‘Reign in blood’ excellent stuff. Obituary with John ‘death breath’ tardy. Morbid angel, exodus, early sepultura (beneath the remains and earlier really, some of their later stuff was good too), ripping corpse, death, cannible corpse (sp), pungent stentch, bolt thrower, plus a variety of other stuff. Early punk is excellent too, as well as a lot of the Mike Muir stuff, ie Cycomiko (hence the name), Suicidal Tendancies Infectious grooves
Its all good.
I havent even heard a lot of the newer metal bands like pantera etc, I guess they all seemed like sellouts to me
Never listened to them, but I have to mention PRO PAIN for the originality of the name and the humorous twist. Speaking of humor, does Green Jelly count as metal?
chrismcl - Lamb Of God certainly does kick ass. Cradle Of Filth is from England. And I can’t believe you stereotype black people in such a manner! You’ve so much to learn, my cuddly little pangolin.
I hafta say that the new Anthrx “We’ve come for you all” CD is the rebirth of a great band, few have heard it, but it is a great workout CD!!!
Is it just me or does Metallica’s ‘St. Anger’ sound like a band trying to be what it used to be, but forgetting how…?
Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society is a great band still waving the metal flag.
Can’t wait to hear Prong’s new "Scorpio Rising’ cd, they’ve been quiet for too long. the new Maiden has been getting a lot of good reviews, i may just check it out…too bad the cover art sucks tho’
I guess some poeple would call me a “Metalhead.” It seems that there is huge lacking of metal these days. At least the 80’s style metal. But I love all the “Nu Metal” bands and have always like Industrial stuff.
