Messed Up with a Girl. Help Needed

I think at some point someone should distinguish the difference between classic intellectual liberalism and political progressive liberalism, because it is a disservice to intellectual liberalism to conflate the two.

Lol, I won’t tar every Santa with the same brush, but there are sure to be some bad Santas out there, in the same way there are some pedo teachers, or priests, or scoutmasters.

At least with Santas its only for a short time, for a photo or to ask what they want for Christmas and under the supervision of a parent. I must admit even to this day if I see a Santa, I will give him a high five for Christmas cheer. Does that mean I’m turning gay?

I would hope that parents would be there to supervise this storytime as well, although I will say my child sat on their daycare provider’s lap during storytime and it without my presence, but that was also not a stranger necessarily.

Pedophiles who act on their disturbing urges (the vast majority of pedophiles will never commit a crime because they know it’s wrong, and I’ve been accused of being a pedophile before for saying this, let me just say I’m not defending pedo’s nor am I one, I’m just stating statistics and science) are more likely to take jobs such as priests, santa’s, scoutmasters etc because it puts them in close proximity of children for prolonged peroids of time without supervision, making the grooming process and eventual sexual abuse of the child easier to achieve, it’s super, SUPER, supersuper fucked up, but sadly some individuals will take on an employment role just to abuse children. I do have strong opinions on what should be done to people who abuse children, and that is that they should be locked up for the rest of their lives (with chemical castration), because each child one abuses is an entire life ruined/ changed for the worse, sexual abuse at a young age can have profound and devastating consequences on the child’s mental health as they grow up, therefore it makes sense that anyone who commits a crime like this deserves profound consequences, I’d even go as far as to say many of these individuals who commit indecent acts involving children deserve the death penalty depending on the severity of the crime.

The point is, it’s probably statistically more likely for a mall sants, scoutmaster or whatever to be a pedophile than someone who works a job that isn’t in close proximity with children. The issue is, how can you tell if someone applying for these jobs is a risk factor, it’s not like we have a pedophile scanner or anything, there’s always a few snakes among us, and usually (and sadly) we never find out until it’s too late
if we find out at all :frowning: . The abuse in the catholic church has been fairly extensive, from what I remember aren’t they attempting to change the laws with regards to confession so priests can go to the police if told about child abuse?

In a similar vein, what level of progressiveness are ‘you’ good with? For example, do you agree with gay marriage or any level of environmental regulation and protection from the govt?

I do. I even attended and had a great time at one of my best friends wedding. I also trust him implicitly with my son.

Having worked in heavy industry I absolutely believe in a certain (rather high) level of regulation especially for health, safety, and the environment.

As I’ve said previously, at any other point in history I would be considered a moderate Democrat politically.

Idk, youd seem to have more in common with the Dems than the repubs from a policy level at least. Or do you not?

On some things I do, others not so much. I’m not fully in agreement with either.

Balance is good.

Yes. And quite rare these days.

I straight up heard an ad from Corey Stewart on the radio today that said that Democrats want illegal criminals to assault our daughters and murder our sons. I swear to god that’s a direct quote.

This surprised you? Do you know how many politicians, journalists, pundits say shit like “Mr/s X wants people to die/suffer/be attacked/live in poverty/some other terrible fate because s/he won’t support Y”?

It doesn’t surprise me in today’s political climate, but I think it was the most ridiculous political ad I’ve ever heard, bar none. Everyone jokes about politicians saying their enemies are crooks, but you need to read a transcript of this. People actually believe that 50% of the country is comprised of people who actively want daughters to be raped, sons to be murdered, and drugs to be dealt.

Soooo
you’re saying some politician used a pretty standard tactic in an over the top way and some people you don’t know (I assume fictional or generalised) believe some stupid shit?

A lot of people I personally know. You’re actually making a good point, though - this is non-news. I’m picking up what you’re putting down. I just honestly had never heard anything even remotely close to this.

It is less a reflection on politicians and sadly more a reflection on the citizenry.

can’t speak for most but I didn’t

This is another complicated topic with crazy people on both sides. Of course what that politician said is ridiculous and the anti-immigrant hatred from some right wingers is inexcusable, but letting anyone and everyone in doesn’t make sense either. If your country has immigration laws then why should they not be enforced?

Here in Canada we have the same issue. Justin Trudeau, the prime minister, made several public announcements and tweets that all immigrants are welcome. As a result, there were people crossing from the US at random places along the border, not actual border crossings. There is the “third country agreement” regarding refugees which states that you can’t leave one safe country to claim refugee status in another, but the federal government has interpreted this in a way that only applies to people crossing at official border checkpoints.

As a result, it can now take years for a refugee hearing, the claimants are being supported by the government (refugee allowances are also much higher than welfare, govt pension, etc.), and in some cases being housed in hotels at the taxpayers’ expense. We also have actual refugee camps in Canada in some places, with people living on government-provided tents. On top of that, homeless shelters are now all overcrowded and with the coming winter (you can easily die from the cold here, by the way) more problems are expected. It’s no wonder that most people don’t support this, including a lot of people who came here as refugees and immigrants through legal channels. Many of them were required to pay large sums of money to the government to be allowed to come here and now anyone who can make it over the border goes straight to the front of the line.

Now another thing about this is that many Haitians came after Trump announced that he would start sending those back who were allowed to stay after their country was devastated by the 2010 earthquake, and seeing as there is no military conflict in Haiti they don’t actually qualify as refugees here and are the number one nationality to be denied refugee status in Canada at the moment. I don’t blame these Haitian people at all, I blame Trump with his hypocritical bullshit as well as the Clintons.

You can read online about how the Clinton Foundation made billions in donation disappear after the earthquake and did next to nothing in Haiti. They gave contracts to their associates and made some people rich while those who the money was donated for got little or nothing. The Red Cross did the same thing too.

But with Trump, it’s another story. During his campaign, he gave a speech in Little Haiti, Miami, where he was saying he “wants to be the champion of the Haitian people, regardless of how they vote” and actually did gain support amongst Haitian-American as most Haitians absolutely hate the Clintons. Trump was saying he would put Hillary in prison, where she does belong, once he was elected, but instead he let Hillary off the hook for her numerous crimes and decided to go after Haitians who had nowhere to return to.

Long story short: The whole system is fucked, both sides are bad. Politics is a puppet show. What they call democracy is choosing who you want to make the laws and policies, but having next to no influence on what they actually do once elected.

My parents didn’t find it neccessary to buy a new bike for me when I was 2, so I got my big sisters old pink bike. Had it till I was 3 or 4 apparently. Same with my “play clothes”, the ones I would wear when digging holes and playing dumptruck in our muddy backyard haha. Those just got destroyed so why would you buy new ones?

Everyone has their own parenting style, and if you aren’t abusive, can provide a stable home, and love your kid, you’re a better parent than >75% out there IMO.

dude, the ads in Texas for The Republicans are fucking insane right now. Every single one of them (specifically Ted Cruz) is talking about their Democrat opponent wanting Texas to become the wild west, completely open borders, no more law enforcement, etc. According to Republican ads, you’d think the Democrats are actually a Mexican gang, lol.
