Men Over 30 and the Slow Decline of Testosterone

The ADAM Problem

T levels begin to drop in your 30s. There are two ways to fight it, and you're already doing one of them.

When a woman hits a certain age range, she experiences a sharp decline in hormone levels – menopause. At that point, a progressive practitioner can help her re-optimize her hormones with replacement therapy.

But a man is trickier. He too experiences a type of menopause, sometimes called andropause, but he doesn't experience an overt drop. Instead, his testosterone levels decline slowly, somewhere around 1-2% per year after age 30. He may not be diagnosed as low-T for a decade or two, but his T levels certainly aren't what they used to be.

This is called Androgen Deficiency of the Aging Male or ADAM. Yes, this is "low T" but it's a subcategory specifically focusing on aging. And therein lies the controversy.

Some doctors don't think ADAM is a distinct medical syndrome. "It's just part of natural aging!" they say. They won't treat ADAM unless the testosterone decline causes other problems, like erectile dysfunction, obesity, depression, or sarcopenia (muscle loss).

Luckily, not as many doctors hold this outdated view today, and it's easier to get a testosterone prescription. It's also easier to fight ADAM beginning in your 30s with natural T boosters.

The ADAM and EL Study

Researchers in a recent study wanted to figure out two things:

  1. Does concurrent training help reduce the symptoms of ADAM? In this study, concurrent training meant a workout plan where you do your weight training and cardio in the same one-hour session.
  2. Does adding Eurycoma longifolia (EL, also known as Longjack (Buy at Amazon) or Tongkat Ali) provide an additional boost?

They gathered up a group of middle-aged men with ADAM. Besides the control groups, some of the men trained in concurrent fashion three times per week and took 200 mg of Eurycoma longifolia. Another group did the training but took a placebo. The study lasted six months.

What happened? In a nutshell, all the men showed improvements in their symptoms, especially with erectile dysfunction and sexual desire. So, exercise alone certainly helps. However, the men taking Eurycoma longifolia obtained the most significant results in those areas, plus higher testosterone levels and better strength improvements.

The researchers concluded: "This study demonstrated the benefits of concurrent training and Eurycoma longifolia (Longjack) consumption as a non-pharmacological treatment for ADAM."

How to Use This Info

You're already training, and provided you don't train yourself into a hormonal hole, a balance of lifting and cardio can help fight off and correct ADAM symptomology. If you want that extra boost and don't yet qualify for TRT, add Eurycoma longifolia to the mix.

In the study above, participants took 200 mg daily. Omega-Man High Absorption Longjack (Buy at Amazon) contains 300 mg formulated in a self-emulsifying delivery matrix designed to get all active fractions into the body.
