That is interesting, and it backs up what I’ve always suspected about how a woman’s sexual tastes will subtly be altered by her estrus cycle. I’m convinced that the premenstrual “bitchiness” of an ovulating woman is an evolutionary mechanism to repel all but the most fit suitors. Only men who are “man enough” (producing a surfeit of testosterone, a high percentage of which would metabolize into androsterone) to get past the hormonally-induced hostility of a woman “in heat” would be allowed to mate with her.

A woman may choose the domesticated cuckold to raise her young, but she would rather the bad boy father them.
I was watching a documentary on discovery “The Science of Sex Appeal” and they came to that conclusion as well. Pretty interesting if you see it own. The Nat Geo “Sex: How it Works” was interesting as well.
They have some great shows on human nature. I’ve had women tell me that I smelled good before and was a little kind of puzzled by it, but some of the experiments that they’ve shown cleared it up pretty well.

A funny one I noticed with waitresses- Even with my wife present, waitresses will shove in next to me virtually every time no matter where at a table I sit, then douse me with pepsi till my eyes twitch. Fwiw, I’m not particularly good looking, don’t dress very well, and never wear anything more than the basic speed-stick stuff.

Yeah, I have noticed this as well. When my wife is present I actually get a lot more female attention. Sometimes inappropriate. For whatever reason it turns my wife on to see a chick checking me out or acting interested in me so its all good to me. Little stroking for the ego and a little lovin when we get home.
orion wrote:

Also without too. It has happened when I hang out with a buddy of mine enough to be a running joke. And by most obvious metrics, the dude outclasses me by a long shot.

Their nose knows.

I’m not going to read through this monster of a thread.

  1. Men who have trouble meeting women or little success with women will be more likely to want commitment as early as possible.
  2. Men who have a lot of choice will be less likely to want commitment with any randomly selected woman, but are more likely to want commitment with a woman who has qualities that are both rare and valuable from the perspective of the man.

A person with no skills, no job, and no government assistance is more likely to take whatever job will have him. A person with skills and steady income/savings is unlikely to switch jobs merely because one is available to him. He will be eager to select a job that offers benefits that are both important to him and not commonly available.

  1. Insecure men will be more likely to want commitment early, especially if they think they can lock a woman in through guilt or emotional manipulation.
3a) Men who are suddenly made or revealed to be insecure after losing what they took for granted will often have a sudden change of heart.
  2. Some men are simply ready for commitment as a personal choice. They may want a family, believe that getting to know one person is more valuable than many partners, or have decided to bow to social/religious/family pressure.
  3. Some men will just tell you what they think you want to hear.
While I agree with you generally, I think there’s some age dependency here and also differences in the way people behave in a low population density area vs. high.
Low population = ‘trouble meeting women,’ or less choice. Small, markets imply scarcity and encourage early buy-in (1), so long as they adhere to monogamous standards. The effects of age are more variable. Men with very high value have less motivation to settle down as they age, so long as their value remains high. There is intrinsic motivation to settle down as one ages, however, depending on personality type, level of fitness, desires for a family, etc ((4) and (1)).

I happen to think that women are more attracted to married men than they are to single men. It might sound strange but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. THey know the dude is cool with commitment and he has already been prescreened by another chick. I think I’m going to start wearing a wedding ring and see what happens.

Yup. Designed by the guy who wrote the book on evolutionary biology.

No, not Darwin. The OTHER guy.
