Meatless Mondays

Is food part of your tuition?

If it is and they are supposed to meet some daily requirements, then raise a massive stink about it.

If not, raise a stink anyhow. Thats probably how the idiots got something so stupid implemented in the first place.

X2. Eat as many beans as you can on Sunday so you can raise a “stink” in class on Meatless Monday. The people forcing ethical decisions on you probably aren’t vegetarians, anyway. Let them suffer for your fart.

It’s inconvenient, sure, but it in no way is a particularly huge deal… as a college student, you SHOULD have a mini-fridge handy and, as a lifter, experience in smuggling food out of the dining hall.

Just stock up the day before, pound some meat before you go to the dh, then eat whatever is there and wash it down with milk.
The issue is the mandate. How is this OK to impose for young men and women?

It was breakfast lunch and dinner at the dining common nearest me. The other ones are an uncomfortably long bike ride away, especially when you’re full as all seven hells. I didn’t realize it for breakfast because I just eat EGGS EGGS EGGS (only decent protein source for breakfast…god I’m sick of it).

I’m sure many others were pissed about it as well, but it seemed like the university was trying to make it seem all wonderful–they had a cameraman in the hall during lunch, and they had all these food related tables manned by people, and in the dining common I went to for dinner, they had a table about why meatless mondays are good for you and why proteinz are evil, and all that crap. I seriously considered flipping that damned table over and starting a shitstorm, but I was hungry and tired. And while they do have a schedule up (they have had meatless monday’s before) about which hall is doing a meatless monday when, it normally doesn’t affect me as they still have meat options available, like cold cuts, hamburgers and fake chinese food. This time, however, they had ABSOLUTELY NO MEAT WHATSOEVER (hardboiled eggs though, but I hate it if I have to eat eggs during anything other than breakfast). The cold cuts were replaced with some sort of zucchini and some sort of portabello mushroom thing, and black bean and veggie burgers instead of some normal hamburger (god they tasted disgusting and made me lose my appetite).

The meals are kinda-sorta part of my tuition. In order to live on the on-campus dining halls, you HAVE to buy a meal plan, which, for me, works out to be ~$190 a week (about $10 a meal… and only two meals on the weekends). Because of my huge cheapness and how expensive the meal plan is, I basically get by on 3 meals as big as I can handle, which actually holds me over pretty well.

I’m tempted to say something about this being a part of the liberal agenda, but I don’t want to push this into some sort of political shitstorm regarding schools. All I know is that they post some crap on the TV talking about how meatless mondays are supposed to be good for your health, the environment and the economy or whatnot.

I go to the University of California, Santa Barbara. I think they may do that at all campuses… they have it at the San Diego campus when I visit.

And given how damned miserable I was during that lunch, I would have gladly taken the meat from my avatar…lol

RRJC, yeah… that kind…
So they don’t have meat in any of the dining halls? Are you required to buy the meal plan as an undergraduate?

I’ve been seeing those signs along the Pardall bike path but didn’t realize what they meant. Lets put a protest together, we can eat Bacon Explosions and lamb/veal/baby animals while chanting offensive slogans.

Well what is it really then?

Unless you push back, expect to get run over by it. That’s the fact JACK! You won’t make friends, but you can create some greatness in the cause.

Lawsuit. The college (State) is depriving you of nutritional needs…or OPTIONS based on a liberal and vegan agenda.

what were the 4 food groups anyway?

Get some obnoxiously-sized bucket of chicken and start devouring it in the middle of the cafeteria. After each bite, say the word “BBQ” as many times as you can (ie: “MMM mmm MMM!! This be some fine BAH-BE-QUE!!”)

If some vegan says anything, aggressively argue that chicken isn’t meat. Cite random quotes from the bible and use them to support your position (ie: "But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries. - Judges 1:35…I mean it says it RIGHT THERE, chicken is fair game!!).

Show a table of hippies your bucket full of bones, recently liberated from the meat they were attached to, and say “Hey, the Chicken is dumb enough to get caught, the chicken is dumb enough to get eaten…just like Darbin said!!”.

What!? I hate vegetarians. I’d probably complain to some school administrators and eat else where on Mondays. I would to tempted to start some trouble, but it’s probably not worth it.

LOL

I’d complain to school administration, write a letter to the school newspaper, and basically whine like a little bitch until the have meat available everyday since you are paying for a meal plan and you never checked a goddamn vegetarian box when you signed up for that meal plan.

And while waiting to get the policy changed sneak tons of meat (preferrably bacon) out the day before and then bring it back in to the dining hall and chow down!

What, exactly, are they ‘imposing’?

Are they forbidding students to eat meat under penalty of expulsion? Or simply not serving meat in their cafeterias on a particular day?

I’m sure there is a day they don’t serve seafood, as well. Should we bitch about that next?

If you want to whine about liberal conspiracies, that’s up to you. The OP would be better served if you gave him advice to overcome this inconvenient, but minor, obstacle in his life.

Hell, it sounds like this is the first time it’s been this ‘bad’. My guess would be that if enough people have a problem with it (which may be the case), a petition will start floating around and the issue will be resolved soon enough.

Until then, my original advice stands.

Fuck the UC system. Honestly, there’s liberal policies built right into every one of their programs. And I go to UC Santa Cruz – it’s probably worse than UCSB!

We have to ‘grin and bear it’ while all sorts of wackos come with their veganism, gay pride, environmental, animal rights, rastafarian, socialist, feminist, etc agendas.

It’s like that Asher Roth song “I love college” except replace “I love” with “I hate.”

If you decide to protest meatless mondays, let me know and I’ll come down to SB and burn dumpsters with you.

Wear this every Monday

Print up a bunch of flyers advertising a campus wildlife hunt followed by a barbecue at your quad or whatever you got to be held on meatless mondays. Put them up all over campus.

If that doesn’t work, try some of these: http://www.aeinstein.org/organizations103a.html .

You don’t happen to go to UCSD do you? We have that same thing here any it’s rather annoying although possible to work around. Your dining plan sounds like ours too.

Why should he have to tolerate this type of shit?

Why should he not pitch a bitch?

Why should he have to squirrel away food for the day when they do not serve the type he prefers?

Isn’t it fair to counter an action with an equal action?

Obviously someone chirped in the right ears to get this passed, so why should he not respond?

These are his tuition dollars, and there is no reason that something as important as a major food group should be removed from a menu that he has in part paid for and the institution had agreed to provide.

THE liberal agenda? Vegan maybe…

Any kind of “liberal agenda” I’ve been aware of revolves around letting people believe and do what they want as long as it doesn’t interfere with others.

This meatless Mondays bullshit sounds decidedly un-liberal.

At the time, when I was very enraged, and saddened, and a whole host of negative emotions, I was tempted to hold a demonstration, “For each day this goes on, I will eat a baby animal.”

Also, friggin great post. 1000 internets to you, good sir.

I both miss and hate that damned thing. Telling me not to eat lots of meat and candy…

johnconkle - Yeah, I heard UCSC was as bad if not worse than Cal when it comes to being crazy liberal. Your support is much appreciated, lol

retrothe80sninja - I don’t go there, but I visit regularly. Awesome thing is, our UC ID’s get us into every UC gym.

Ronsauce - I have no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to politics unless it’s very, very broad strokes (Oh yeah, some guy named Obama is president. Wait, what, since when was he half black?)

In general though, I’m inclined to side with anonym in the sense that he has a similar name as myself (derivatives of anonymous), and that yes, for the time being, COMPLETELY MEATLESS mondays is just one incident that happened to coincide with some nutrition week BS. There may or may not be a connection. If, however, it does become a regular thing (I’ll find out in about 4 weeks, that’s the cycle), several strongly worded emails/letters shall be thrown about, and a shitstorm of to be determined magnitude will likely ensure.
