Meal Ideas for Work

I’m aware that thousands of recipe threads are in existence here already, but I’m thinking it’d good to have a thread containing only simple meals that can be made at work (using only toaster ovens or microwaves as cooking appliances). I work the day shift, I’m extremely busy and also extremely hungry all day. I’m running out of ideas.

Thanks for the help.

Get a cooler.

Make tons of food the night before.

Put it into little containers.

Bring containers to work in cooler.

Heat up as needed.

I dont know if this is what you mean or not but it’s an optimal way to get food at work.

Three things that would be helpful to know:

  1. What sort of eating plan are you following? Low carb, balanced, anything so long as I can get the calories in?

  2. Do you have a refrigerator or a cooler or does this need to be something that will be okay stashed in your desk drawer?

  3. How much prep are you willing to do in advance?

Yeah, what he said

Simple precooked, packaged and frozen whole foods, Simple things. not every meal can be gourmet when your eating 6+ a day.

meats, veggies, nuts, fruit, MRP’s, milk, hard boiled eggs, etc etc.

I use Zip-lock bags by the ton , although this is beacuse the wife wont let me take tupperware anymore. Buy I cook my beefstew and have 3 bags (meal sized) with me at lunch. then usally 2 bottles of premixed protien shake and large bag of nuts.

Just an example but I really like just being able to throw the bags out after i finish eating instead of washing stuff.

You also don’t need to eat a lot of different foods. You can alternate between two or three meals for a month until you get more advensuresome.

I use the disposable gladware… if you have a refridgerator at work… that’s optimal… dried fruit and nuts work for me in between my 5+ meals… i keep those in my desk…behind the hershey’s miniatures my co-workers love to scarf down… bon apetit.

One of the best investments that I’ve made is the purchase of a slow cooker (crockpot). I usually put a large roast with lots of veggies in it, set the cook time and let it do it’s thing. You’ve easily got meals for the next couple of days. From there it’s just a matter of tupperware and a cooler to bring it to work.

A roasted chicken is your best friend. They’re cheap, easy to prepare, taste good and most importantly, versatile. I love roasting a couple and pulling off all the meat. Toss with some minced garlic and ginger, some S&P, curry powder, yogurt and frozen spinach and serve with brown rice. On a lazy Sunday, you can put together a quick salsa verde with chicken broth, jarred jalapenos, some roasted tomatillos and a little cream or yogurt. Season that to taste and toss with chicken pieces, wrap in a whole wheat tortilla and some monterey jack or queso fresco cheese. Boom, you’ve got chicken enchilladas. Tons of possibilities.

I bring a family size igloo cooler to work everyday, oddly with about enough food for a family. Ziplock bags of snacks, like sliced cheese or fruit are a good choice. Also, bags of trail mix are good. I’ll take a “sips” (more like gulps) of the bag and chew it up while working (goes great with coffee too). This way my hands stay clean and I don’t attack anyone from hunger pangs.

Walnuts and olive oil. Not the tastiest in large quanitities but damn if they don’t get the job down. Throw in a protein shake and you’re good to go.
