I’m sure most of you have heard the attack Obama made against Mccain because he didnt know how many houses he owned. Correct me if I’m wrong but isnt it the American dream to be able to own a home? On top of that whats wrong with investing in real estate and owning investment properties. I’d like to be able to give both of my kids their own house, is somthing wrong with that? I think this was a MAJOR slip up by Obama and it shows how much of a commie he really is.
it was more of an attack on McCain’s perceptions of what is rich and to try to paint McCain as the rich elitist out of touch with the middle class.
There is nothing wrong with owning many houses, and I doubt Obama would disagree.
The real problem is that those on the left think that we (I can only speak for myself, no offense) poor folk in flyover country are really angry that some people are rich and can afford nice houses, so they use McCain’s wealth as a weapon.
I don’t give a shit how many houses McCain owns. Lord willing I will own one myself someday! Furthermore, I don’t care much money or education Obama has, I just don’t want him pretending to be something that he is not. But instead, he’s pointing at McCain “Look how rich that guy is! He can’t possibly relate to you!”. Well guess what, you’re rich too dumbass! You can’t relate either! And raising the taxes on those who have been sucessful doesn’t help me out ONE LITTLE BIT! I can’t speak for anyone else, but my whole life I’ve worked for people who are rich. If the government decides to make their life a little harder, they might not be able to afford a schlub like me, which means I’m out of a job, and that much FARTHER from becoming sucessful myself.
Class envy is the STUPIDEST plank in the democrat platform.
I think the deal the Democrats are trying to make is that he didn’t even know how many houses he has. I think it’s a good point if McCain has those homes for his personal use. If that’s the case, he’s got so many vacation homes that he can’t even keep track of them. That’s being out of touch with the middle class.
However, if those are investment properties, I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t know how many mutual funds I have, Heck I’m not sure how many accounts I have. Further, many politicians have their investments managed by a trust, some even a blind trust. If that’s the case, it’s unlikely he would now how many rental homes they might have.

I think the point is that it is hard to relate to average Joe if you wear $450 shoes and have so many houses that you can�??t even keep track of them, especially when McCain say Obama is an elitist. McCain thinks our economy is fine, that is someone that is out of touch with reality, at least from the working classes point of view,
A non-issue - the “elitism” Obama wants to project on McCain is a kind of attitude, not necessarily a measure of a portfolio.
Unpacked, it makes little sense - after all, it didn’t bother Obama enough to not support John Kerry in 2004. And of course, Obama himself made $4 million last year and shops at Whole Foods - not exactly a bona fide regular guy.
And to note, Obama belonged to a church that espoused a political philosophy that expressly and deliberately rejected “middle-class-ness” as a racist institution - hard to be a middle-class warrior when you look at his pedigree.

Way to miss his point. I think twisting this into an attack by Obama on home ownership and investment properties because he is a communist is ridiculous.

It’s not about how many houses he has, it’s about him not knowing or not remembering how many it is.
I think it piles upon all the other times McCain gets stuff mixed up. He invents borders, places Darfur in Somalia (it’s in Sudan); he’s brought up Czechoslovakia 3 times, the country split up in 1993. He mixes up Sunni and Shiite groups; he says Iraq when he means Afghanistan; he talks about Al-Qaeda being in Iran, etc.
Everybody misspeaks now and again, but McCain repeats most of these two, even three times, even after being notified by his entourage. At some point, you have to wonder how far off his world view is from the real thing.
Then there’s the bad jokes he makes about bombing Iran, beating his wife, entering her in a topless beauty pageant; jokes about Chelsea Clinton - all in bad taste, all unworthy of a presidential candidate. Is he just tactless, or did those slip out before he could catch himself?
The point being made is that if the guy can’t remember how many homes he has, and keeps getting mixed up when he talks about foreign affairs - his supposedly strong suit - how sharp is he really? If he gets that fabled 3AM phone call from some enemy leader and mixes him up with an ally, will he give away national security secrets that could endanger troops and/or citizens?
If he has to make tough decisions, but forget half the relevant facts about the issue, will he still make the right one?
No one really gives a shit about how many houses he has. It’s more about how many brain cells are still firing up there.

To me it looked like he was brushing the question off. If he (or anyone) is being interview and has a limited amount of time the may reply to a question they do not want to get into but suggesting that the interviewer talk to his staff afterwards.

Obama failed to mention the investment part. And it’s not like he’s poor himself, but he tried to purpitrate like he is in order to get more votes. In other words he’s trying to use class warfare as a weapon.

It is a human failing to connect another person’s success to your failures. It is also easily taken advantage of to manipulate those who think that way.

Problem is the facts don’t back up this bad economy propaganda. Are real estate prices down? Only in as much as it rose too high in the previous few years. Are there problems with mortgage failures? Only with the secondary market. Anyone who understands the secondary market understands this is the market for people who should not have a mortgage.
Let me say that again. If you only qualify for a secondary market mortgage, you should not get a mortgage. It generally means your finances are not at a point where you can handle a mortgage, so do not qualify for a regular mortgage. And if you are more likely to have problems with a regular mortgage, what makes you think the higher interest and payments would make things easier?
The Democrat party has become the party of jealousy and financial ignorance. (And no I am not real happy with the Republican party right now either.) All it takes is a little financial understanding to see the faulty ideas being spouted by Obama.
