I never did buy that bullshit. There is no way that people could be yelling taunts of violence at the rallies of any of these 4 without it being immediately shouted down by the respective campaigns.

You’re gonna tell me that Palin, who heard a guy in the crowd protest the war and responded graciously is not going to respond in some way to somebody calling for the beheading or general death of Barack Obama?

No contemporary candidate is going to let that go on either side.
That’s the same way I feel about a Junior Senator, whom has gone through many application processes; from Passports, to School Applications to financial aide, to Congressional security checks…is somehow able to “hide” the fact that he is not a U.S. citizen; and then is able to get numerous govermental agencies and people in on the conspiracy.

Amazing, huh?

I’ll say it again; McCain is a good man, and I just don’t think he is comfortable with attacking people. And it showed.

I want to throw this out to you guys about these Polls, again. While we all may think one candidate had an “edge” here and there; there is no way that I thought that this was some kind of “landslide victory” for Obama.

What do you guys think if these Polls?

The budget for most schools comes primarily from state and local taxes. The federal funds going to Ed is about 10% of the total budget with the other 90% coming from state/local taxes.

Depends on the school. The worst schools get the most money yet still fail. Hmmm…sounds familiar.
Actually, the worst school are usually in the areas with the least property value, which means they are collecting little in property taxes, which is the primary source of school funding.

“Joe the Plumber” in his own words:

A 33rd degree Mason whom I have known for decades just told me last night that Obama is now considered ‘a little unsettling’ (his words). There will now be a slow turning in the mainstream media against Obama, more of his past coming to light. McCain will ‘win’ by a hairsbreadth.

Note: I know it sounds crazy, but just watch and see.

Here’s the original conversation that caused all the comotion:

It’s actually a good talk. Joe sounds like a decent guy.

^^LOL. The election is basically over. McCain needs a nuke to change the outcome at this point. That or a flood of old people who are under the radar and mostly pro-McCain due to being old enough to remember when blacks sat on the back of the bus.

Barring that, this election will not be close and “Joe the Plumber” isn’t changing that in the slightest. If you think I’m wrong, we can all look back on these posts after the election and have a public shaming thread for anyone that had crackpot ideas or was completely wrong. I’ll be there.

At least he didn’t use the ‘my friends’ line ad nauseam last night.

I’m sure he is a good person, but he tries his hardest to hide it.

Sorry, I was refering to federal dollars.

We should start a whole new thread for picture wars. Would be cool.

I got this one.

“Excuse me mam, but I believe that’s ours. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to spread it around.”

6) The VOUCHERS/CHARTER school issue in many ways SEEMS like a local issue to me (you guys can correct me if I’m wrong). I (and I would imagine a LOT of voters) simply don’t see it as a “Presidential” issue.

Is that incorrect?

It SHOULD be a local issue, but with the Department of Education holding the purse strings, most states and municipalities don’t have the available funds to make it a reality.

The issue at the executive level should be about dismantling the ED, using that extra money to help lower the federal budget deficit, and giving states and local governments the same control they had over education before Carter was President.

The state can then determine the most appropriate uses of their own funds for education. If that means raising state and local taxes then so be it, but with more control will come more efficiency, and hopefully better education for the dollar.
I agree with your general point. It SHOULD be a state and local issue. But in actuality, it pretty much still is. For all the squaking about federal funding of education, the federal government only funds 9% of education. 91% of education funding is still by state and local government.

The problem is that federal interference in recent years has actually only made things worse because the federal government has set forth benchmarks that schools must meet WITHOUT providing the funds necessary to help them get there.

In many cases, the benchmarks are inappropriate anyhow, and schools have to spend money they don’t have to meet them with little to no help from the feds.

Just get rid of the Dept. of Ed.

Yup, this is true. The worst schools get more federal money but still are massively underfunded. If there is a solution, it’s a state and local one and not a federal one. It will take more than money too, but that is needed in some cases.

But federal initiatives and funding can only be a bandaid when complicated surgery is what’s called for. I wish more people could understand this. Obama and McCain know it.

But they are forced to make education an issue cause most constitutents wrongly think it should be a federal problem and that federal iniatives can effectively make a big difference.

I would own everyone. Start it up.
