McCain - Foreign Policy Genius
Headhunter wrote:
McCain was the only Senate Republican to vote against President Bush’s tax cuts.

He has co-sponsored bills with Ted Kennedy. I can’t even imagine being in the same room with Kennedy, the drunken old lecher.

McCain wanted amnesty for illegals, and to let them collect Social Security benefits, from a system already in deep trouble.

McCain is NOT a conservative and is another ‘stealth-lib’ like Bush. Haven’t we had enough of phony conservatives?

He’s such a weak conservative, I’d bet Hiallry and Bill are sponsoring him somehow. Maybe McCain will be the VP under Hillary, like was proposed before with Kerry.
I suppose the relevant question is whether you’d prefer McCain on the one hand or Hillary or Obama on the other?

If you mean we should continue to be motivated in throwing in our anti-Democrat nominee vote, I’m going to pass this time. There’s the principle of not subsidizing bad behavior. Well, some of us believe the Republican party is drowning in bad behavior. I realize full well that Hillary or Obama will benefit, but that’s just how the chips fall.

You can’t rely on my vote forever by saying the right things to get the party nomination, to only turn around and vote for “No Child Left Behind,” amnesty, a mixed bag on spending, tax cuts, McCain-Fien., etc.

I’ve grown tired of the “Pfft. You aint got nowhere else to turn. You need us,” attitude.

Edit: And before some party liner jumps on me, you’d do better blaming the party, and not me. I carried weight for the Republican party on this forum, even when I was uncomfortable with the position I wa being forced into.

This is a valid position if you’re willing to live with the consequences, i.e., if you’re willing to have Hillary or Obama as President.

The Canadian conservatives split themselves in two and both halves were an afterthought for over a decade…

BTW, Lou Dobbs is blusterer full of populist twaddle.

I know.

Edit: By the way, I noticed one of the blogs seemed like it downplayed the effects of illegals on wages and Americn workers. He seemed to matter of fact about it, too. I’m not so sure.

I’ve tried to spend some time reading (and understanding) George Borjas, Harvard Professor of Economics. He seems to have done a good deal of work on the effects of immigration (legal and illegal) on wage and labor. Anyways, here’s his blog if you’re interested.

Of the 3 of those, I choose Obama. He’s an honest lib. Hillary is a power-mad psycho along with Shitbag Billy and McCain is a stealth-lib.

I also think Obama would do what he thought was right for the country. Hillary and McCain would do what’s right FOR THEM.

Holy shit! I agree.

Don’t forget the alienation a Lieberman vice-presidency would provoke.

The man cannot flee from his own words. Excellent link!

I truly believe he is running to make it easier for the Hill-Bill-ies to get into the White House. If he makes it, most libs would choose Hillary since the choice is between two libs then anyway. She’s GOT to be paying him off somehow.

Maybe Vince Foster knows.

McCain is the Bob Dole of the 2008 election. IF Hillary or McCain get the presidency there will be a mass exodus to Canada! I have already studied Canada’s gun laws and culture I am ready to move along with millions of others!

You need to seriously re-assess this conspiracy mindset of yours…

Anyway, here’s McCain’s voting record on gun control and some statements of position, sourced from OntheIssues.org:

I think you’re referring to this quote from the NYT article that was quoted in the blog post:

There is no denying that this country’s immigration system is broken. But it defies belief - and a whole lot of economic research ( The Diffusion of Mexican Immigrants During the 1990s: Explanations and Impacts | NBER ; The Evolution of the Mexican-Born Workforce in the United States | NBER ; Immigrants' Complementarities and Native Wages: Evidence from California | NBER ) - to suggest that the problems of the middle class stem from illegal immigrants. Those immigrants, remember, are largely non-English speakers without a high school diploma. They have probably hurt the wages of native-born high school dropouts and made everyone else better off.

If so, it’s specifically saying that immigrants don’t cause economic problems for the middle class, but do compete with the less educated, less skilled lower class workers.

If either McCain or Clinton win 2008, you are headed to Canada?

That cements my vote - McCain/Clinton 2008.

A tough ticket to swallow, I know - but the sacrifice is worth it if we can get troops of half-educated, believe-anything-I-read-on-the-internet numbskulls to get out of the way of the rest of the other folk.

Point. Game. Match.

BTW HH, this typical Clintonism from Bill, given during the Republican primary, should tell you right away the Clintons think McCain is the biggest threat on the Republican side:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/01/25/bill-clinton-john-mccain-and-hillary-are-very-close/

Some thoughts:

In the event McCain did buckle under torture, who are we to judge? After Vietnam the military Code of Conduct was rewritten. I no longer recall the exact wording, but post-Vietnam it was changed from absolute resistance to resistance “to the best of my ability”. The point is that torture sucks and until you’ve spent a week buried with only a straw to breath then you have no business judging a man’s conduct under torture.

As for the gun stuff, gun advocates are perhaps the greatest supporters of the ENTIRE Bill of Rights…period. The second thing about the gun culture is that we don’t forget. But the reality is (thanks Rudy) that McCain’s gun talk isn’t any different than anything else he says. It’s the same double talk every politician has for every issue. He’s not anti-gun or pro-gun. He’s just pro-getting his ass elected.

What I find so strange about the man is the ire he gets from conservatives. Let me rephrase that. I can understand why conservatives don’t like him, but why is their hatred reserved to him? He’s more conservative than Rudy, Huck, or Romney. Yet we don’t hear Rush out bashing them.

Beats me. Sifu claims a similar plot in taking place in Britain.
