Mattjp's Training Log

I remember a while we were talking about figure 8 straps. I fancy some figure 8s but need em to fit well. So like minimal increase in ROM when using them.

Cerberus has some different sizes. Are the sizing charts spot on or should I go even smaller?

Mine are a medium and a good fit; I have 7.5" wrists.

I don’t get a lot of extra ROM out of them, I don’t think, but I’ve not really tried to. Not that much of a strongman yet. They are a little loose for me, though - if you remember I can drop the bar while wearing them if I choose to.

You could probably wear a small, I guess? Sounds like you’d want to err on the side of snug.

Tuesday, 21 June

Down to 221.8 today. Expecting a drop later in the week, just 'cos that’s how things have been going.

Training (Recovery/Easy Conditioning)

Weighted vest walk for like 30-40 minutes.

Also the usual outward rotation band stuff. Tested on the missus and she said there wasn’t a lot in it between left and right, so on the up and up.

Looking forward to finding out how badly my bench has been affected. I’d say not much, touch wood - I don’t have a lot of room to lose strength there!

I figure that any equipment I bought during the lockdown I will just hold onto…because it seems plausible that we could be facing another lockdown in the fall/winter. So you might still get your money’s worth from those KBs? Not exactly a fun thing to consider, but you never know.

I think another lockdown is very unlikely, at least here. Can’t speak for other countries.

Kettlebells will be useful enough for days in which I have conditioning planned but don’t have much time to justify their purchase.

Are you in the US? Utah’s Covid cases have doubled since they reopened. The schools here are preparing for more online learning. I fear that flu season will see a Covid spike, too.

Yeah…shit’s crazy all over the place again. Round two incoming. This sucks.

Same here. University just announced they’re opening with extreme safety parameters and are closing again after Thanksgiving break and moving to online for the duration of the semester.

Fortunately not. In Ireland our cases and deaths have been in consistent decline and the R0 has been between 0.3 and 0.6 for months.

Pubs, restaurants, gyms and cinemas are reopening on Monday. My wife is a teacher though and they’re training for mostly online learning next year, so 100% normal is still a while away.

They’ve said if they do go to lockdown again it will be localised. TBF I would be in that area, since around 25-30% of the population live in Dublin, but I could easily stay elsewhere and escape a localised lockdown if it came to it.

I think it’s been handled reasonably well here. Certainly a lot better off than many western European nations, and considering we’ve an open border with the UK things could have been much worse.

I’m still not sure if it’s as bad as they say. It might be bad, but is it worse than the flu?

Here in the US, we went from Covid straight to riot season. Oddly enough, the media stopped talking about a health crisis.

We’re not sure what to do with ourselves now. I guess it’s occupation season. See Seattle for info.

Haha yeah that’s always a tricky one. My understanding from media reports is that you’re a racist murderer, right?

I think it IS worse than flu, but not by tons. But if flu had never existed and then all of a sudden sprang to life that would be pretty bad. So that’s what we’ve dealt with.

I don’t know how much of the suppression of the virus has been down to the lockdown and how much down to the emphasis on social distancing and hygiene. It will be interesting to see what kind of spike we get here when we open up the hospitality industry. If it’s low then it would maybe appear the lockdown was overkill, but it will be so tough to say.

Honestly, we won’t have firm answers about all the questions this raises until historians examine this in 50+ years. Really brings home how ā€œmay you live in interesting timesā€ is more of a curse than anything.

Are you suggesting us Brits Johnsoned it right up? Because you’re right, we did.

Well I won €700ish on Cheltenham and bought a new laptop for the wife so for me, personally, going ahead with a 300,000-person horsie party in the midst of a pandemic was a great shout. In general, probably not so much.

I wonder how Theresa May would have done in the hot seat during all this.

Do you? I think you secretly know the answer

As much as I didn’t like her as a PM, I feel like she couldn’t have done much worse than Boris ā€œlet everyone get infected, including myself, and almost fucking dieā€ Johnson.

You have a refreshing amount of faith.

We got down to weeks of consistent 1 new case a day here in Aus and within a week of them relaxing the lockdown we went straight back to 20 a day and growing. They have already started to increase restrictions again !!

We’re very lucky over here in that we fucked our response up so royally the first time around that it actually seems impossible for us to fuck it up more. We’re trying really hard, flocking to beaches, crowding into shops and generally being irresponsible dickheads at every turn but the death rate keeps refusing to climb.

I mean, obviously there’s going to be an increase in cases when you go from ā€œeveryone stay in your house all the timeā€ to ā€œgo about your business but don’t cough on one anotherā€ and I don’t think that should surprise governments all that much.
