Popping a shoulder sucks, glad you got it sorted and hopefully it’s nothing too serious. What is it these days with all the male nurses. Bring back the days of carry on doctor !!!

Saturday, 6 June

Weighed 225.4 today.

We’re reopening a little faster than originally planned so gyms should be back 20 July rather than 10 August. Knew that would happen the day after I spent €200 on kettlebells!

Taking it easy today. Did some light band pullaparts and dislocates, mostly pain-free. Think I’ll be alright to train normally (or as normally as I was) again this coming week.

Might wind up hitting the 10,000 swing challenge with the proper 24kg KB once it arrives. That plus some running should get some fat off me.

Sucks about the shoulder. Seems so unlikely to pop it out during a turkish get up. What kind of pre-existing condition does your shoulder have?

Really? It would be like my top 3 exercises that could potentially dislocate a shoulder lol.

This is my fifth dislocation I think. Maybe fourth. Tough to keep track. Had probably 20+ subluxations/partial dislocations as well.

Okay I meant dislocating a shoulder during weightlifting is unlikely. With as many priors as you had, not so unlilely anymore.

Ah yes well I agree with that, from experience and in theory.

Always put a pretty decent focus on shoulder strength in training for obvious reasons. Just a bit of a fluke this time really. Considering I’ve repped out 25kg dumbbells for single-arm OHP, a 16kg KB shouldn’t have been much issue.

Doesn’t seem to have done much damage though.

Have done a few sets of 50 pullaparts/10 dislocates with the lightest band today and everything feels decent. Got some anti-inflammatories as well.

Sunday, 7 June

Down to 224.2 today.

Mostly pain-free, but getting slight twinges on certain movements. Doing the band pullaparts/dislocates and some rotator cuff things throughout the day. In the next day or two I’ll see how pressups and chinups feel.

Monday, 8 June

Weighed in at 224.6 today, so I’ve found my new plateau point before I mysteriously drop another couple of pounds.

Did some chinups and pressups today. Neither close to maxing out but no issues with the shoulder. Strict pressed the kettlebell a couple of times as well, which felt fine.

Shoulder actually feels better now than it did two weeks ago.

Rogue kettlebells have now shipped, so should be able to (re)start 10,000 swing challenge with the proper weight.

Weighed 220.2 today but best not to think about it too much.

Friday, 12 June

Have absolutely not been arsed to do any training this past week. Just not feeling it; been a downer of a week all in all.

Shoulder is OK-ish. Lots of internal tendon/ligament movement when I lift it above my head but no pain or restricted ROM.

It was feeling GREAT after last week’s dislocation and subsequent relocation; more stable than it has in years. Then I fucked it on Tuesday night and it’s felt off ever since.

Did 10 easy pressups, 6 less-easy chinups and 10 strict KB presses with no pain or anything though. Seeing an orthopaedic specialist next Friday to see what’s going on.

Just been doing a lot of band stuff with it and that’s about it. Kettlebells arriving tomorrow or Monday, so that will kick off a new blitz of swings.

Diet has been fairly in check, though. Weighed 223.8 today and 224.2 yesterday.

It’s ok big fella. Meh times will pass

Just more chance for me to catch you man.

In lifting or in life in general?

Hey Matt been away for most of a week.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder, hope it heels quick, sounds like it’s doing it’s thing. But good to see a specialist.

About the plateau and then the sudden weight drop, I did the same when I lost quite a bit of weight. I think the body holds on to what it haves, doesn’t want to give it away.

@guineapig yeah it’s all good thanks.

@dagill2 former, but really nothing major. Just a slightly mopey few days.

@mortdk yeah I’d like it to be more linear, though!

This is pretty much my experience too. I’ve gone from fatty to pudgy enough times to know better, and it never happens in a nice linear way.

Oh, 223.8 today.

This week of inactivity has made it easier to eat less.

Restarting the kettlebell challenge and regular runs next week, though. Will see me through until gyms reopen at the end of July.
