Struggling to get to sleep tonight. Last year, that also started to happen at around the 8 week out mark. I think this time around, I should be a little smarter and try to compensate by throwing in a nap after training.
If anyone can chime in and give me their experiences with sleep (or lack thereof) during prep, it would be much appreciated.
On the bright side, just placed a big Biotest order! Got some Metabolic Drive and enough Plazma and MAG-10 coming to last me until a few weeks in to the offseason hopefully. Getting the products in to South Africa is always such a hassle… but totally worth it.
Do you feel tired? What I notice is the leaner I am the less sleep I need… im at about 4-5hrs/night right now… and don’t feel a drop of energy, quite the opposite

Ya, I was definitely tired. Weird thing is I can fall asleep during the day if I try to have a nap, but having a problem at night.
Today was my only non-training day of the week, and tomorrow looks like a killer Mountain Dog leg session, so I think the rest day was definitely necessary!
Tomorrow morning will be my next update with Shelby; I’m keen to know what the plan going forward will be. I will keep everyone posted as soon as I know!
Today’s macros looked something like:
220g protein
40g carbs
80g fat
It’s not much food at all, but I do tend to feel more satiated on my non-training days as the meals are more evenly spaced apart, whereas on my training days 3 of the 6 meals are concentrated very closely around my training session.

I always experienced the same thing. That first prep, I just figured that I was running myself down too much, but I certainly couldn’t back off, so I just dealt with it. Each successive one, even though I always tried to be as smart as I could in juggling everything, my sleep at night was just never great.
When Biotest first came out with the Mineral Support product, I was talking to Tim and he suggested it might help. It did a bit, and I know others have mentioned certain minerals that are known to assist in relaxing. These days, while I do take extra minerals from time to time, I also keep a bottle of Z12 around which I use only on occasion.
All in all, I figure that so long as your training isn’t suffering noticeably, just take it in stride. If you can catch a quick nap here and there, do so. If your body really just starts shutting down on you, then you can worry.
Also,… great pic you posted above. Delts looking nice and detailed already. Can’t wait to see full shots as you get closer.

Hrmmm…
Lol I see where these dots are going
But seriously, the leaner I am the less sleep I need, all other things being equal
Ok, so I updated with Shelby yesterday and he seemed pretty positive in terms of his response.
Current weight: 83kgs/182.6lbs
Weight at last update (5 days ago): 83.7kgs/184.14
Strength and energy levels: Strength is good, energy about the same
Any deviations: None
He told me to keep my nutrition the same as it has been (there hasn’t been a change there for the last 4-5 weeks now), but up my cardio sessions to 7 sessions of 45 minutes as opposed to 7 sessions of 35 minutes. He said “You’re tightening up at a good rate!” though, which I take as a positive. He also told me to keep in my weekly cheat meal; so he must think we are on track.
To be honest, I didn’t personally see a huge difference between these latest pictures and the ones from the last update, but a lot of people seem to be commenting that I’m looking plenty leaner, so I’ll try to avoid playing any mind games with myself as to if I’ll be ready in time or not, and just trust what Shelby has in store for me.
Wow. I just realised that I have a seriously vacant expression in all of my pictures! Think I might need to smile next time. Lol
What I’m really concerned about is my abdomen and lower back tightening up enough…I seem to be getting tighter and more vascular everywhere else, but I’m just not getting that abdominal and lower back definition that I need. I’ve been told that I have a ‘deep abdominal wall’; I have no idea how true that is, but I have been training abs a lot more frequently of late to, but haven’t noted much of a difference there yet.

Front lat spread (Really need to work on this one) although I feel it could be a good pose for me.
Need to fill up your chest with air to expand ribcage
Have arms flared a bit more “forward” too, if that makes sense. There comes a point where its too much and you actually start squeezing the pecs, stop just short of that

What happened with your last contest? Did you compete? I remember the prep thread.
Thank you, bro. Yeah, I did compete and won my division (over 80kgs senior men), but to be honest I was really disappointed with my condition. I knew I could have been much better.
Right now I’m sitting within 1.5kgs of the weight I actually competed at last year, and still have 7.5 weeks to go. I’m hoping this means I will come in a hell of a lot harder this time around.
Nice, you will nail your conditioning this time around…Shelby won’t stop until you are ready. That being said. I know how difficult getting there can be, so I wish you all the best.
