Marvels: The Avengers (Trailer)

I agree with Wolberret. It looks very much like they have made Thor less powerful in this than he’s supposed to be, which pisses me off because he’s my favorite character out of the lot.

That scene in the most recent trailer where Iron douche knocks Thor around is just damn stupid. Thor could crush that guy like a tin can.

The underpowerment started when they decided to undersize the ice giants. That was one thing I didn’t like about the Thor movie. I mean, the whole scene would have had to be CGI for it to be ice giants like they’re depicted in the comics and would have been very expensive and time consuming, so I can understand why they did it that way. Still don’t like it.

Now, of course, it could be Thor leading Iron Man to believe that he is a match for him for whatever reason, or maybe, since he’s also a defender of Midgard, Thor does not want to hurt him, so he’s letting him smack him around. I can’t see the trailor on my computer at work, so I may have missed a tidbit that would prove otherwise. Them underpowering Thor is most likely, though, unfortunately. It makes sense, since he’s not the most popular character, maybe Marvel doesn’t want to hurt potential fans of the movie franchise by clueing them in on how easily Thor could demolish the rest of the team if he wanted to (except Hulk).

And I’m sure that Japan gets a better trailer because they’ll need more convincing to come see it than we will. I doubt Marvel comics is as popular in Japan as it is here (this is based off of no knowledge at all about the topic, so I could may be completely wrong about that). In comparison, I don’t need to see any damn trailer, I’ll be watching the movie regardless(hopefully on opening night).

Thor kicked SHIELD ass with no powers. As much as I like Stark, the difference between him and Thor is that Stark’s abilities are defined by suit upgrades, whereas Thor…well let’s just say that when we last left him he learned that heroism and godhood aren’t about beating the crud out of someone with a magic hammer. Maybe the lessons aren’t complete. Being hailed as the heir of Asgard since the dawn of eternity can build quite an ego.

I wish Branagh was directing the sequel.

I think the internet has clued Japan in on quite a few things so I don’t think The Avengers are a new concept. They USED to be about 30 years behind us in “pop news”…but that was like in the 80’s.

Now…of course they wouldn’t see “Cap America” in the same light as us.

(And, once again, I don’t like that costume and think the problem with it is the guy in it. Every scene I see with him in it makes me wonder why he shrunk so much since his own movie.)

I read an interview for him after Captain America. Apparently, he was having shoulder problems. It hurt and was clicking all the time. He also thought he got too big for the role.

Not familiar with steroids, but didn’t some of you guys say he would have had to do them to put on the size he did in a short time for the Captain America movie? I remember reading about it in the Captain America thread. Isn’t it possible after he went off them that he’d lose that size, or that he’d have to go back on to maintain that size?

6 pages later…anyone hear about a cameo by spiderman?

Negative, but that would be very intriguing. I’d lose my shit if Wesley Snipes appeared on screen as Blade though…it would make no sense as I don’t recall him ever having any interaction with The Avengers though, but still would be awesome.

Either way this begs for Imax showing.

It wouldn’t be entirely unlikely. If I’m right this Avengers and new Spidey movie are based on Marvel’s Ultimate universe and SHIELD goes after Spidey early on in Ultimate Spider Man

Yep. He has a “personal” relationship with Fury from high school onward.

It’s a question of rights: Spider-Man is with Sony. For Marvel to put Spidey in an Avengers movie, they would either have to wait for Sony to run the reboot into the ground a la Blade Trinity and allow the rights to revert to Marvel (which will take years), or pay Sony for the rights to use Spidey, which would probably cost more than the amount Sony paid in the first place. Same goes for Wolverine and Fox. The studios will bleed these characters dry before they give them up.

Oh no kidding?? I didn’t realize that. Damn, hopefully Marvel gets that back in-house. I can’t believe they’d do that. Is Sony producing the new Spidey movie? I only saw the one trailer but it didn’t seem like it.

Yep. All four Spidey movies were made by Sony. The reboot only came about when Raimi, Dunst and MacGuire decided not to return (they only signed for a three picture deal). Up until then, they were going to continue the series with the same actors and the Lizard as villain, who they were setting up since the first movie.

Spider-Man 3 was dire, but it was the most successful movie in the franchise to date. Wolverine would be harder to get back into Marvel’s stable as all Fox needs to do to retain the rights is to cameo him in an X-Men movie - they don’t actually have to keep producing solo movies. I guess that’s partly why they put him in every single X-movie.

There’s a fair chance that Marvel will bring Snipes back as Blade, if only for the reason that when he’s released, they’ll be able to snap him up for a fraction of his previous asking price.

They could even start the movie with Blade being released from clink after being framed by the vamps. I don’t think Blade is part of Marvel’s immediate plans, but now they have the rights back from New Line, I think they may revive the franchise at some point, but for now Marvel’s game plan is to focus on the Avengers.

Hopefully Sony won’t screw up Spiderman. Raimi did not do him well by that 3rd movie. Taking away the web shooters was a huge mistake. That was a pretty big part of that character…the planning involved and the fact that he could run out in mid fight.

yeah this is the one thing I didn’t like about that series besides the third movie.

I’m surprised Sony owns the rights to all the different versions of Spiderman. Since there are different comics and stories told in the Marvel universe, I figured they would only own 1 version not all. Is it some kind of license deal that expires and goes back to Marvel after a certain period of time or do they outright own him for movies?

Normally, when a studio buys the movie rights to a character, they can extend the rights by making more movies featuring that character. There’s usually a clause that stipulates that the rights will revert to the copyright holders if the rights have been dormant for a certain time period. Basically ‘use it or lose it’.

I agree and am excited about the new movie. I saw the trailer and was like, “holy shit, they brought back the web-shooters!!” LOL

There was a rumor that Spiderman would cameo in Avengers(or possible Peter Parker) that the internets latched onto when some woman was interviewed and she mentioned Spiderman Whedon has put those rumors to rest here
