Beyond The Door…(Trailer below…guess which movie this tried to imitate?)
The Car (about a Killer Car…no driver…no shit.)
Killdozer (TV movie about a killer bulldozer ‘‘activated’’ when hit by a meteor from outer space…a masterpiece.)
I can’t type anymore…this is getting embarrassing.
Man, that Beyond The Door trailer still looks creepy as shit to me, I don’t know why.
“The Car” kinda like Stephen King’s “Christine”? You think that’s an embarrassing concept, go look for a French comedy from 2010 called “Rubber”. For some reason all the car talk reminds me of that really good early 70’s film “Duel”, I fucking loved “Duel”.
That Killdozer thing sounds exactly like the sort of thing my five year old self would eat up…I think I’m going to go watch “Duel” now.
Lol, yeah Beyond The Door’s trailer was creepy…musta been that low budget 70’s grindhouse thing…the grainy
low budget look of the film, no use of bright color, not a typical horror trailer like today where almost EVERY trailer
now has a ‘BOO’ at the very end…But boy what a bore and unscary that film was, no dread, no nothing…Yyyyawn!
‘‘Duel’’, outstanding little gem that was almost too good for TV when it came out…there’s something always deliciously
mysterious about ‘faceless’ protagonists, even if it’s in trash like…THE CAR!!!
Lol, yeah I forgot about the similar ‘Christine’, which was a masterpiece by comparison…That concept worked!
It’s how it’s done so it doesn’t look silly…I think Killdozer and maybe The Car is on youtube.
Every time this Car killed someone, it did that same 4-step honk you hear on the trailer
Wow, Josh Brolin looks now like his Dad did back then lol…BEEEEP, BE BE BEEEEEP!
Yeah, that low budget creepiness is a killer, I love that shit. I might just stick to The Exorcist for my sanity, probably not the right word to use actually…
It was too good for TV, as far as I know it had a proper theatrical release shortly afterwards. Yeah, at least there are some ridiculous films out there that are realistic enough to label their idea a comedy as opposed to taking itself as seriously as a legitimate premise would.
I always liked faceless protagonists, but there’s still that part that I hate about not knowing what they look like, I could never jive with books over film because I’m not quite imaginative enough in that way.
I just came across this TED talk posted today from Martin Villeneuve, it’s not an outstanding talk, but it’s nice to see the process he went through to realise his vision. (The film could have been better than it turned out to be, but I won’t fault him all that much because of the story behind it.)
You should definitely check out his older brother Denis Villeneuve though, he’s a magnificent director. I like all of the films of his that I’ve seen, but in particular there’s one called “Incendies” that is brilliant. Nice French-Canadian direction if I’m going to pick up the cultural film angle again in this thread.
On a semi-related note, here is a TED talk that I adore featuring J.J. Abrams from quite a while ago (Pre-Star Trek). I remember watching this over for quite some time, I thought Lost was brilliant (at least it didn’t drop off too far towards the end, I also actually enjoy the ending a great deal).
Although I still don’t know how Hurley could run around a near-barren island for so long and not lose at least a slight amount of weight, maybe it was all that ranch dressing they salvaged…
