MarkKO's Training Log

I think we agree: It is certainly a spectrum.

I for one would be a shit soldier. I don’t believe in debt of birth, so I certainly don’t owe my country my life and am not ready to die for it in Afghanistan for some absurd reason and call that “defending our freedom”.

On the other hand I would’ve been a good police officer because I believe in this country’s system and society and am ready to defend it’s democracy.

Interesting.

If I could go back (here we go) to when I was 17 or 18, I would join the army. Without a shadow of a doubt. Not because of any sense of patriotic duty, but just to see how good a soldier I could be, and if I could make it into a commando regiment or special forces.

@MarkKO @Koestrizer

Loving this exchange by the way. I have nothing intelligent to add without a few coffees in me, but enjoying being a spectator.

Haha we have to disagree on that one. There is a lot about the military lifestyle (besides killing and dying as ordered) that I despise. It didn’t get any better when I had pretty good insight into it for a few years via my ex. And that is the German army, which is very lax compared to most other states including Britain.

My only concern would be to measure myself in war. It sounds terrible when I say it, but if I had the chance to do it over again I wouldn’t do anything other than that.

I’ll understand if I get some harsh words from veterans, because it’s something they have experienced and I haven’t, and which in many cases left damage both physical and psychological.

I don’t say it flippantly, or thinking that it is anything other than a harrowing situation to be put in. It is nonetheless a test that if I could take, I would. The only reason I say ‘if I could go back’ is because I think it would be horribly unfair on my family if I went and decided to enlist now.

Wow you really don’t hear that one often. It’s something I don’t really understand but I am sure you have your reasons for it.
For me personally it would definitely depend on the reason for war:

Invasion into another country? Nope, not doing it (also forbidden by constitution).
Invaded by another democratic country? We will be defeated anyway and as long as democracy stays… Yeah, I think I’ll surrender.
Invaded by a non democratic country? This one is where it gets worth fighting.

Threat of the country being taken over by an ultra right party/ movement from within? This one is worth dying for.

Obviously this is an oversimplyfied break down: I know this is not how war works.

Absolutely. No questions

Speaking of army has anyone heard from @Irishman92 lately ??

Yup. And they try to just claim it is simple patriotism, but you defined the difference perfectly.

That’s exactly the kind of thing a bloody yank would say

Woke at 254 lbs, looking much the same as usual. Hands are pumped to fuck though. The CPAP shat itself early last night, so that’s not ideal. Don’t feel particularly off so far though, just another night of waking up a bunch.

Later today I’ll try to figure out what the go is with the CPAP, could just be the power cable. Or even better, the wall outlet.

Ok, so it looks like it’s the CPAP AC adaptor that’s rooted. Luckily eBay is a thing, and a new one is coming in a week for a reasonable price. Seriously, CPAP shit is ridiculous from registered dealers.

Still tired as shit, obviously. Work is busy too, so tomorrow and most of next week will likely be jist embracing the suck so hard it takes out a restraining order.

Extra workout

50 pull aparts
50 air squats
50 reverse hypers
50 crunches

Because FUCK two rounds right now.

Woke at 253.5 lbs, looking pretty similar. Not feeling too fucked either, so that’s a win.

Woke up implies sleep, hope you got some.

Apparently. I feel pretty much normal. Either I’m on the other side and will crash horribly in the next 24 hours or I’ve gone and @T3hPwnisher and made my body realise I’m going to keep going so it may as well cooperate.

Sleep wise, no CPAP, woke up two or three times, so I should feel pretty average.

Still feeling ok, although getting tired. Weird.

Todays training

Pull aparts and kb bottoms up press

Pullups
3x3 with 17 lbs
1x5 bodyweight

Yeah, not what I planned as the progression for this day, but I had a think. I’ve been lucky so far doing the pullups so much more frequently and not getting elbow pain. That’s also why I wanted to get away from just hammering more reps.

Except without changing the loading, if I wanted to get away from constantly increasing reps I could only stagnate or move backwards.

So I figured I’d try adding weight, dropping the volume and just to make sure volume wasn’t stupid low, I’d add a back off set without weight. It was @mortdk who gave me that idea. So I used the pink 17 lbs kb, which makes it look like I have one enormous testicle hanging out of my pants from behind.

KB swings
5x10x70 lbs

Yep, that works. Much better hamstring pump.

Goblet reverse lunges (whatever stepping back is called)
2x10x70 lbs

I planned 2x15. No fucking WAY could that be workable. My whole midsection lit up like nothing else, which meant I didn’t notice the quad pump ttill I stopped. This is a keeper though.

Video PLEASE

Happy I could add something.
For Pull ups I wouldn’t add weight for several sets.
Try this next time
Set one: 3 - 5 reps BW (warm up set)
second set: 2 - 3 reps + 17 lbs (should have at least one more in the tank)
third set: 1 rep 25 lbs (super tight and perfect rep) + immediately drop the weight and do an amrap.
Fourth set set: cluster set of singles with 15 second pause 5 - 7 reps all reps must be perfect, otherwise end the set.
Theory: the heavy single recruits all muscles to fire, the dropsets will have them all firing and working.
The Cluster set, will call on all motor units once again and will have you do up to 7 reps in one set. Every week add 1 rep to the cluster set, when you reach 10, start making the cluster set with doubles. when you get to 10 doubles, you get it.
And add weight to the heavy single when it’s easy.
