MarkKO's Training Log

Yeah thats mind blowing they would send you back honesty
We’re making people self isolate who have no symptoms at all just if they were like near someone who was near someone who had it.

Best of luck Mark, hope it’s nothing but a scare.

Woke at 261 lbs, looking similar to yesterday. Still a bit sick, will see what the doc says. I feel like an idiot the way I’m reacting but on the other hand I don’t want to be that guy who refuses to acknowledge that this situation demands a different level of precautions.

Hopefully doc says I’m fine to go on as normal. If not, it is what it is.

Don’t forget the civil unrest. It’s already starting. People are being robbed of their groceries because they’ve created a panic.

Today my Sergeant told us to make sure we have our riot helmets. FML.

The main thing is to not be the guy who spreads it to thousands of people, and for that reason there is nothing idiotic about being cautious in this situation.

You are serious?

Yes. Nothing has happened here, but there are reported incidents around the country. I just left a grocery store and the manager said it’s been crazy all day. People are just pushing carts full of groceries out without paying.

That’s just good old fashioned theft, but the robberies are happening around the country. It’s like Black Friday every day now.

Just browsed through the jeremycyoung post. The numbers are bad.

Guess we’re finding out that the world can’t flip off God forever.

I can confirm.

I work for a major food retailer in the UK and while none of my direct colleagues have faced physical assaults yet, the reports from around the country and from other retailers are worrying. Based on the level of hostility and verbal assaults I’ve seen first hand, I believe it.

This has been floating around for a bit and it has been debunked as bull crap! In it’s original form it was labeled as being the result of the research of the university clinic of Vienna. They immediately denied that. Only believe in safe sources of information. Which is a little harder if you’re in America (sorry, I don’t want to start a fight, I don’t envy you).

In most cases the Corona Virus is not associated with a running nose but rather a dry cough, fever, maybe diarrhea.
Germany is taking some drastic measurements right now (pretty much the same as Denmark as far as I am aware, @mortdk. So one level below France, Belgium and Italy). The problem with the spread of the virus is that a lot of people my age will have it without knowing or showing any symptoms. This became apparent when comparing case numbers linked to demographics between Italy (where only people with symptoms were tested) and South Korea (where they used broad testing irregardless of symptoms).

This is exactly right and deduces itself from the picture above. A lot of people might not feel sick but could still be carrying the virus, rapidly spreading it to those who fall into the group of most vulnerable (old, previous health conditions).

We might be in for the long run. Hopefully Australia’s unique situation of limited points of entry will stall the epidemic a bit. Chancellor Angela Merkel did a TV speech tonight (which is something incredibly special because the chancellor only addresses the nation in such manner on new year’s eve and not regularly as in other countries) and called this epidemic “our biggest challenge since world war 2”.

Wow, sorry for derailing here. I like to discuss such things and noticed too late that I was getting off topic. In conclusion I agree with what everyone said. Also the reaction you got on the phone was pretty much the same you would’ve gotten here about two to three weeks ago (I actually know for sure in this case) and look where we are now…

Aaaand my gut was acting up a couple of days ago…

Good discussion.

Seeing the doc in a few hours, right now feel dried up and drained as shit. Achy too.

Good call to see the doc (although in my country you wouldn’t be allowed to in this case, haha). Whatever it is you might be carrying, you’ll get through it and I wish you a speedy recovery!

You sure about that?

You’d think it’d be on their website under the caption “is there anything I should not do” if that was their official stance. There’s no statement regarding ibuprofen there when I checked just now.

Everyone mentioned in the article you posted, stated that there is no link between taking Ibuprofen and worsening of Corona symptoms. The study linked in the article discusses if patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus are at increased risk for COVID-19 infection. A lot of them had the common nominator of being treated with ACE. It does not suggest that they died from ACE such as Ibuprofen.
Since the people who give advice regarding medicine are scientists they are in nature very careful with how they articulate themselves. Even if they all think ACE don’t play a role in this, they will make sure that they are right first, before they give definite guidelines.
So they have to acknowledge this detail.

There have been conflicting reports about the use of Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs since French Health Minister Olivier Véran, also a neurologist, tweeted Saturday that it may worsen a COVID-19 infection.

Maybe they are busy with other stuff and this was a low priority.

WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier told reporters in Geneva Tuesday that although there is no recent evidence to suggest that ibuprofen increases mortality from the disease, WHO cautions against using it to treat COVID-19 symptoms until its experts investigate the issue.

All fair counterpoints.

@MarkKO I hear the fires have stopped?

Yes, our disaster management guys are very good. They rarely mess the scheduling up, so the fires went out well before the coronavirus started.

Ok, so my contingency planning in terms of training is really fucking simple. I asked Jake if I can borrow a kettlebell if shit gets shut down and he said I could. I’ll grab the 70 lbs bell if it comes to that. I’ve got a pair of average, light and mini bands as well.

If push comes to shove, I’ll probably train four to six days a week, alternating upper and lower body. All I’d be looking to do would be maintain muscle mass and maintain work capacity.

I figure one day would be

100 hardstyle swings AFSAP
50 goblet squats
50 reverse hypers
50 lying leg raises

Second day would be

100 pushups supersetted with 100 pull aparts AFSAP
50 band rows
50 band lateral raises

Once anything gets to one set (which for some of it would take a looooooong time), change something. Like add bands to pushups, for example.

With something like that, I won’t lose any muscle and damn sure won’t lose work capacity. Won’t get stronger, but won’t get any weaker than a couple of weeks back to normal training wouldn’t fix.

So the doc said I’ve got a virus, it’s just highly unlikely to be the scary one. Said to stay away from work and people until Monday, by which time I’ll be better and unlikely to make anyone sick. So that’s what I’ll do. Tomorrow, if I’m feeling better I’ll do the bodyweight day. I don’t need to go to the gym for that.
