Giving me hope programs actually work, one video at a time!

Intelligent training always works. Take emotion out of training. You don’t turn up to work and do your job based on how you’re feeling, you do it based on what needs to be done. Treat training the same.

Does the KO in your name stand for Knowledge overlord? because it should.

I’m here for Mark officially changing his last name to Knowledge-Overlord.

@tireguy @heretolog no, I just have a really awkward double barrelled name.

Five pound all time PR. I’m really pleased. I may even add go to 340 lbs for my third instead of 335 lbs, but of course that will depend on how the 330 goes as my second attempt

45 minutes without rushing

Nice one, Mark. That looked pretty much like the first rep of six rather than a 5lb PR.

Looked really fast mate. I can see some good stuff coming for this comp.

I don’t want to question your system, but that looked so easy, even fatigued, what’s the reason for making that your second?

Had to replay that a couple of times out of being mesmerized. Looked like a triple at least!

The squat and bench were supposed to be maxes? Both looked easy, I think you are a bit too conservative. The squat was maybe a little heavy for an opener.

Hard to argue training isn’t working when the reaction to 5lb PRs is that they look like easy openers.

Woke at 265.9 lbs, looking much the same.

@dagill2 @chris_ottawa it sets me up to go in knowing I’ll get my third attempt, and we all know it’s the third that makes your total. I’m absolutely being conservative, but if deadlift follows the trend I’ll be on track for a 50 pound increase to my total.

I WANT my second attempts to be easy, meet day can throw curve balls all day and if I can manage it so that I only need to strain on three attempts and still improve, that’s exactly what I’ll do.

Not saying your approach is wrong, but in the end it’s the lifts you make that make your total. My last meet I had some issues going into squats and I took my planned 2nd and made it but skipped the 3rd because I wasn’t sure if it was going to be there and I was going for a big total. I’m fine with skipping a 3rd attempt if I’m not confident in getting it.

There’s different ways to do things, I see the way you’re training you don’t do a lot of heavy single or even doubles or triples. A lot of people benefit from focusing on heavier weights because you get used to handling that sort of weight and the “neural adaptations” and such, that’s what I do and it works well. But again, you have people like Yury Belkin that don’t really go over 80% or so until the meet so as long as you are making progress and performing well it’s not wrong.

Exactly right. I think the other big thing, and you’ve touched on this previously, is the mental side.

I do way, way better going in relaxed and sure. I can do that because I have zero doubts about my attempts and my ability to make them. I guess you could call it a lack of confidence, although I don’t feel un-confident; I just have a very good idea of what I’m good for within relatively small margins.

In terms of the neural adaptation, I don’t know how relevant how the weight feels is but for both squat and bench the two maxes this week felt pretty much identical to what is ‘heavy’ in training for me. Once I pass around 440 lbs on the squat and maybe 250 lbs on bench, it all seems to feel the same. So when I’m working up in training, I’ll have a moment where I think, this is heavy, usually my second last or last warmup, and then every weight from there feels identical.

You heard it here first: Mark completes his meet with a 50lb PR total and never exceeds RPE 6.
