Thanks my friend, and the same to you.
Merry Christmas to you and the family Mark. Hope you have a great day.
To you as well mate
Merry turkey day
Woke at 265.2 lbs, looking much the same as the past week or so.
Woke looking bloated. No weight because we’re in Sydney for a few days. Big dinner yesterday, mosty because I ate my dinner and then ate what munchkin didn’t because he ordered a ravioli that was pretty damn nice. Pretty sure that’s most of the bloat.
+1 to also being a fat fuck who can also work!

Extra workout
Two rounds of 25 each of
Band pull aparts
Band hammer curls

Lying leg raises
Done while having morning tea and coffee.
When I do the leg raises I get this weird mound coming up below my sternum. Doesn’t hurt though.
At some point those PRs will equal yours. Pretty sure you have me across the board still.
Gah, 2019 was not a strong year for me. Between breaking my foot, moving, working on building a new house and having our first child, my strength is definitely down.
Hoping to build it back up and compete again this year, but likely not for another 4-6 months at least.
Either way, our numbers are close which makes me appreciate the effort required to PR at all, even if it is just 5lbs. Wishing you luck through the peak.
Thanks man. It’s those times that make you appreciate even the mediocre days where nothing feels shitty.
Woke looking similar to the usual. No hills to do sprints so immediately on waking went to the hotel gym to find some kind of cardio machine for conditioning. Turns out they have two assault bikes.
Picked the preset 8x10 work/20 rest interval mode. Work effort was around 70 per cent on average I guess. Quads got smoked, lungs and heart didn’t work as much as during sprints but fuck it. A big part of this was making sure I did some conditioning for habit, and my heart rate definitely rose some so it would have done something.
Also, on my favourite topic of how all things IPF related are diseased turds.
You may recall sometime in the last couple of years when Powerlifting Australia lost its IPF affiliation because of Robert Wilks conflict with their head. Up pops the APU, run (initially at least, I believe) by the Rucci brothers (who have a pretty ironclad reputation based on being decent guys and running good meets and gyms). For a while all is calm. The Ruccis run APU meets and also coach and handle GPC lifters. Everyone is a big happy family.
Then a couple of days ago Rucci’s Gym makes a public post declaring that they are leaving the APU (by this stage other people are running the APU, the Ruccis just state reps). The post was detailed and set out in chronological order the sequence of communication between the APU and Rucci’s Gym regarding some regulations. They didn’t specificy which ones, simply that they requested multiple times clarification and opportunity to meet and discuss how or if these should be amended or retained. No dice. None of APU higher ups wanted to play ball. So Rucci’s Gym and the Ruccis leave the APU.
I mean, it’s great they are now coming back full time to GPC. They’re good guys. Hell, they produced Westside vs the World.
It just highlights how fucking stupid the people in charge of any IPF affiliated or wanting to be affiliated fed are. Treating the athletes and meet directors like shit, no desire for communication, nothing. Just shit attitude.
The thing is, Rucci’s Gym is one of the best in Australia. These guys have been around powerlifting for a long time and run good meets. They’re ambassadors for the sport. They’re the kind of people you want in your fed.
Weird any idea what the issues were!? I am still considering an APU meet in Feb just because it’s close to home and a good date. Seems odd that they would pass ways unless they disagree with something. The IPF rules would have been there from the start so it’s odd they disagree now ??
A monopoly allows this. There needs to be a fed that steps up and forces IPF out or at least to be better.
My Short List to instant GOAT Fed Status:
-Cash Prizes
-judging by video recognition software with video review
-Decent Streams and Live Scoresheets
From the post, some conflict over meet directors being officials in the federation or something. Apparently that was a conflict of interest. I’m not sure exactly what went on as the post just talked about the timeline and the nature of the communication, not the subject. My understanding was that this was a new regulation that was proposed, and the Ruccis asked for discussion before it was adopted; and that it be put before the membership to be voted on. The APU directors ignored both requests and simply put the rule in place.
It looks like the IPF lets its affiliates make some of their own rules in respect of some things, and picks and chooses what it wants to control. Which in itself is dodgy AF.
It seems in Australia at least that the running of IPF affiliates attracts dickheads of the first degree who are only interested in playing politics at the expense of the sport. Losing the Ruccis is a big, big blow. They are known to be decent dudes, approachable and transparent. They also drive the sport at all levels. Chances are they could have attracted quite a few lifters to the APU who otherwise wouldn’t go near the IPF.
@BOTSLAYER the thing is that the IPF DOESN’T have a monopoly. They were last to the party in raw lifting; they have no multiply division; and they are generally disliked by a large portion of the powerlifting community. If they were less exclusionist they probably would have a chance of a monopoly. As it is, they do have large international meets but their judging is often highlighted as suspect, their spotting is known to be sub-standard and despite their testing regime there are regular busts of high profile lifters.
Any idea what the rule was ?
Not really. The post didn’t spell it out. From what I could gather, the rule related to forbidding APU officials to act as meet directors as that was a conflict of interest.
