Maple Syrup Strength (littlesleeper)

Not who you asked, but I’m a big fan of rack work. I like both, and also walks/marching. I like doing multiple picks with heavy weight, moderate weight for long holds, and moderate to heavy weight to go from one rack to another, walking between the two any trying not to die.

I’ve never performed these but have seen them done by others and look like would blast the quads! Another good idea to keep in mind if my back is being fussy. (feeling pretty good today, to be honest)

:kissing_heart:

Haha, now you have me wondering if I was even doing them right in the first place. I’m just holding it in the front rack position, no actual squatting involved. Really activates the core and upper back to hold that position. I did notice when front squatting with high volume awhile ago that it was actually my upper back that gave out before my legs did, so I’m expecting this to help in that area.

I’ll be sure to get a video if I attempt any sort of insanity of this sort lol

Well, there is no doubt your carrying power is pretty phenomenal. Jerk, running around the gym with a 500lb trap bar.

Oh stop it you :no_mouth:
You could flipcollar and I’s carry off. You could use farmers handles and just be tougher than me.

I think I’d rather go toe to toe with you guys in a OHP comp than a carry off.

Speaking of farmer’s walks, I do need to fix my one implement. The handle rotates making it hella hard to hold on to.

Sounds like it’s worth doing as is

These are no joke, I severely underestimated their difficulty haha had plans on going up to 255, stayed at 225 and stuff started shaking…absolutely stole the idea after reading your log, ha.

Haha I’m with ya there! I figure my Front Squat 1RM to be in the mid 300’s so I assumed I would be doing just the “holds” with AT LEAST that weight. Needless to say, I was humbled. It’s a great core and upper back stabilizing movement, thanks @brady888 for introducing me (us) to them!

#Day 3 - Upper/Lower

Axle Strict OHP SS/ SGHP
75 x 10 / 95 x 10
115 x 3 / 135 x 6
135 x 3 / 165 x 6
165 x 3 / 185 x 6
185 x 2 x 5 / 185 x 6 x 5

SSB Squat
135 x 10 ← Knee was hurting pretty bad through these
185 x 10 ← Debated staying at this weight since knee pain was not good
225 x 10 x 3 ← I put the belt on for these sets and knee felt SIGNIFICANTLY better…? Heavier weight + belt = knee pain elimination?? Anyways, decided to jump up a bit for my last set.
275 x 10 ← Tough set, but not soul-sucking.

Hanging Leg Raises

Very interesting, personally I can do front rack holds with up to 180% of my 1RM (for over 10 seconds) front squat, then again, for some reason static holds always feel very light for me

Kinda late on this, but I front squat with a clean grip and find the holds super effective with a “zombie” grip or with your arms straight. Really seems to hammer the upper back and help build the thoracic. Especially if you set up the safety bars a few inches from lockout and stand up with it. Walking it out is hard as fuck too though.

Also, congrats on that EZ PZ 605. Crazy shit

I think a lot of this has to do with doing them for awhile as well. When I first started doing them 275 felt heavy as shit because I had barely gone above that in training. The other week I did 475 and it felt really solid. Holding with arms out, however, 365 is about all I can muster out.

That’s very likely true, when littlesleeper “hardens up”, so to say, he’ll be able to hold a lot more weight in the front rack position

Ya, I’m currently doing them for 30s so a HUGE difference here. 10s is basically walking it out and walking it back in.

Thanks man, maybe I’ll try the “zombie” grip. I have read about that a few times actually but never implemented it. I do walk the bar out rather than simply standing up with the weight. I enjoy walking it out because it makes you brace the crap out of your core.

Thanks man, I won’t be going for another DL PR for a few months, so that was definitely a nice one to hit.

I typed out a response to this like 3 times and every time it sounded like I was saying I had an erection. So I’ll just let it go.

I thought this was the only way to do front squat holds?

When you’re solidly bracing, you probably have a bit more backward travel with your hips. Usually leads to a more vertical shin, which can take certain pressures off the knee. Lot of presumptions lol

Don’t worry, you’re plenty hard

That might explain why you guys are doing so much more weight than me!

My form definitely changes when I’m belted, so this is a likely scenario. I think I’ll probably belt up all my squats going forward until I can nurse my knee back to health.

Basa fillets, steamed veggies and papaya (first time trying papaya, I didn’t really know what the heck it was but saw a few of people on here eating it @BOTSLAYER and @Reed in particular)

Worked out this morning. Post workout 5 whole eggs cooked in coconut oil with spinach, curcumin, pepper and Frank’s Red Hot Seasoning. Put on two Ezekiel English muffins with hot banana peppers and homemade chilli sauce. Washed down with a cup of Joe. Yep, breakfast is my favourite meal of the day.

How did you like the Papaya?

I think I noticed my knee got a lot better with a belt too. But I am going beltless for rehab because I think at least in part over reliance on my belt caused some of my issues.

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about them lol. It was pretty tasteless and a different texture than I’m used to. I ate it, but I think it would be a stretch to say I enjoyed it.

Likely the fact that they aren’t exactly fresh when I’m buying them. Similar to mangos, they barely taste like mangos when getting them at the grocery store. When I was down in the Caribbean eating mangos off of the trees I fell in love with them. Try to get them here, and they aren’t nearly as flavourful.

Ya that makes sense. My knee pain isn’t related to belt use, so if I can push it a little harder in the gym while wearing a belt, then I’ll be wearing a belt. It is patellar tendonitis, and basically I have been told “rest” is the only cure for that. That’s what the doc has been telling me since 2006 when it started, and I’ve yet to give it adequate rest.
