Maple Syrup Strength (littlesleeper)

WTF?? :joy:

I’ve started doing them and I feel like I’m gonna die after 3 x 5 proper reps :joy:

Just for clarification, these are not from standing but from the knees.

Post workout fuel; this has been a somewhat regular meal as of late. Grass fed ground beef, sour cream, on mixed garden salad with spinach added. Dessert was a couple tablespoons of peanut butter.

BBB sets were pretty easy today. No real issue with them, and seemed like I built less fatigue than last week’s OHP.

Good workout. The program has been running along nicely. Upcoming squat and deadlift days are making me nervous, and the bench and OHP days are just a good session of putting in the work. I’m starting to notice a small increase in appetite, but nothing crazy as of yet. Being diligent to keep my protein, fats and cals high enough to aid recovery, but trying not to overdo it.

A little side note:
A friend of mine has just started working out (currently on his 7th week of milking the Starting Strength gains), and we were discussing nutrition. He is a bigger guy and has been a very carb-heavy eater. He is starting to up his protein and swapping out carbs for fats and is noticing that it is becoming more and more difficult for him to hit his calorie targets with his carbs being limited. He had no idea how many carbs he was consuming, and never really felt full. Now he is texting me at 4pm telling me how he has no idea how he is going to consume another 1200cals before bedtime because he is still full from lunch.

Turn that friend onto the wonderful world of nuts, nut butter and avocados, haha. I totally get it though: going low-carb is a lot like that movie ā€œThey Liveā€: you suddenly realize that carbs are EVERYWHERE and make up the bulk of nutrition. It’s a cheap and easy way to get in calories and energy, which is why they’re the foundation of so many diets.

Are you doing 5 sets of 10 or 10 sets of 5 for BBB work? I can’t tell if you’ve gone Russian on me, haha.

Our last conversation we actually discussed nuts/nut butters and avocados! I believe at one point I received a reply of ā€œWTF is powdered peanut butterā€ when I was explaining one of my late night meal options. He is pretty eager to learn and has been taking it quite seriously, so I’m looking forward to seeing him progress if he sticks with it for the long haul.

I am doing 5 sets of 10 reps for the BBB work. Awkward notation; 10 x 5 I would read as 10 sets of 5 reps, but when I’m writing 150 x 10, I would read it as 150lbs for 10 reps. So in my head, just adding to x 5 to the end should read 150lbs for 10 reps x 5 sets. I should just type out each set, it makes the workout look more impressive that way anyways.

The powdered PB is such a good hack! Throw it on everything. I’ve mixed it with tuna before. Same with riced cauliflower. Everything tastes better when it tastes like peanut butter.

Writing out every set is always a way to pad the log. It’s just like how, if you wanna sound heavy, you use pounds, and if you wanna sound light you use kilos, haha.

I have this problem too. 150 x 12 x 5 looks weird, that’s why I usually just type weight x 10 x 5 sets

I started my 3 week long night shift last night and am glad that the beginning lines up with a rest day. I only managed to sleep 2hrs yesterday before my shift, and have just woke after a 4hr nap today. I’m going to try to get something physical accomplished today before attempting a nap #2 before work.

Oh man, these sets were exhausting. It was tough to convince myself to get back up to the bar after each set. Deadlifts take something out of me that not many other lifts do.

I’m finding myself just repping these out rather quickly. Even after just two weeks, it feels like I’m becoming more proficient at the movement, so it might be time to slow them down a bit to get a little more out of them.

Food packed for work:
1/2lb ground beef
1 Bell pepper
2 heaping tablespoons of 14% sour cream
Small container of guacamole
Small container of almonds and pumpkin seeds
GoodFats bar from Costco; 10g Protein, 14g fats, 12g carbs (7 fibre)

I’ll just make a quick note here so that it is logged:

100 Empty Axle Curls (25lb homemade axle)
10min AirDyne

I have not been great with conditioning up to this point, but I’ll try to work in a bit more moving forward.

Well, this log may turn into KG weights before too long. I can’t really call it an impulse buy, because I’ve been contemplating the purchase for over a year…let’s just call it an unnecessary purchase.

I have purchased a 20KG Power Bar, 20KG Deadlift Bar and a full set of KG calibrated plates to go along with it (also a bench that meets comp specs). I have several reasons for breaking the bank on these items but the top two are a goal to hit a 700lb deadlift (purely for myself, but I didn’t want any doubt in my mind that it was a true 700lbs - hell, I even bought the calibrated clips) and the second being that used standard plates are going for absurd prices right now. I’ve already sold off my excess weight (for close to the same price that I’m purchasing these calibrated plates for - a part of me feels bad for it…a small part), which has helped to justify this purchase.

My bench is quite narrow, so I’m looking forward to benching off of the wider platform as well.

I am overloaded by all the awesomeness in this log dude, haha. That’s great stuff right there.

That 700lb deadlift will feel like a dream come true! I keep feeling a little guilty for the purchase, but I’m sure that will go away once I get my hands on the new equipment and manage to sell off some of my additional plates.

I appreciate the comment Pwn. I’ve always respected your hard work and accomplishments but have really become a fanboy as of late, haha. Between your log and blog, I’m relying heavily on your work for my own training/nutrition/inspiration.

Now I need to go get some sleep so that squats tomorrow (or possibly the following day) will suck just a little less.

I guess these surging in prices would be like finding a paper note with a misprint on it or something that had to get recalled… like 100 years ago. (shots fired at imperial sorry not sorry METRIC 4 LIFE!!!)
